Good draft but disappointing he doesn't mention other players who may be looked at for each pick or who they might pick in the event that player is already gone.

but but but its the original and the best according to afl.com.au....

The rest are only imitators apparently...yep, imitators that do more research, have better contacts and are more reliable than afl.com.au!

Im sure Emma Quayle's tomorrow will be more in depth and better informed than the afl.com.au one.

Both Phelan and Quayle have the Dogs keen on Crozier. Big gamble, but it could pay off big time. Q still thinks North are a decent chance of grabbing Kavanagh at 18. :(

Love the Taylor Adams pick, but the rest of that is pretty blech for us

Hill at 58 isn't bad for you guys considering all the WA media has him rated as a top 30 now. I personally dont see it (or trust a pick on the basis they're a player's brother) and I'm not sure what freo supporters are saying but... could work out for ya.

If you get Adams after us I will be mad.

The Bulldogs picks were kinda crap or to be more precise, the second and fourth ones. We are actually alright for once when it comes to tall forwards and we have too many inside mids already.

He hardly addresses our need for tall defenders and only has us picking one fast, skilled mid. I also don't see why we'd take Crozier when we don't really need another small forward either.

Sheridan and Boseley are fine and appeal if they get to our picks. From there Phelan's got the balance wrong vis a vis talls and smalls, for example we'd take Bolger in a heartbeat at 48 (he won't get that far on Thursday anyway). All the guys are talented enough, but we've got needs at both ends of the spine and in the ruck which Phelan hasn't really seemed to grasp.

Paine the massive slider - can't understand if he "divides opinion amongst recruiters" why he wouldn't be taken earlier? If some recruiters like him surely he would go before 68?
Maybe I've got things wrong, but if I was drafting for Collingwood, and my first pick was at #50, and we have a need to add a young KP forward for depth, and Jackson Paine was available at that pick, I'd be elated.

I would think that an 18 year old KP forward who played in a TAC Cup GF, played for Vic Metro alongside Jonathan Patton and is capable of pushing up into the midfield at times would be worth a punt earlier than pick #68 in a weak draft.

Guys - You need to remember that the Phelan and Quayle mock drafts - are based on inside info from the clubs - It's not who the writer wants to be selected at each position in the draft.

Phelan demonstrated nothing to say he was really up on club directions, inhouse gossip or anything else that would separate him from the 2,000,000 phantom drafts posted elsewhere.

I think there is minimal inside info in Phelan's mock. Teams are playing their cards very close this year. It's more a matter of putting together the small tidbits that inevitably come out, and drawing conclusions from there.

It's a perfectly good mock draft though. Being the draft writer for the AFL website is a pretty thankless job really. Nobody will ever be happy, especially when you're still finding your feet.

A good draft I think. The most likely

Kersten will be fascinating. If he goes to GWS then that opens up a lot of options

Adams is a fine bloke and player but limited. Would love him at Tigerland but docherty would be great

Port would adore that result. Good for the comp too

Dons would love Kavanagh, if he can get over his chronic hamstring issues and break free of Damir. They desperately need help for their midfield sloggers

As much as they (afl.com.au) want to profess that he does, Phelan doesn't have the contacts and inside knowledge just yet as it's his FIRST Phantom Draft. It takes a few years to build that up. He will get better with each year though, but I would read a great deal into what he has written.
Better off looking at the journos that have been doing it for a few years and have built up their contacts.
