Wouldn't really consider him as a Campbell replacement.

Had his chance for mine and would rather see a hungry kid get a rookie spot for us than Petersen on his third shot at it.

I'd rather see a bloke proven at AFL level when he wasn't trying (according to ur theories, I'll agree he wasn't fit to play today's game) who is still very young than a kid in a draft that wouldn't have made a rookie selection 3 years ago when it wasn't compromised and didn't have the extra 50-100 picks we'll have after the rookie draft is done. Hell most blokes pickes late tomorrow wouldn't have got a look in a few years ago b4 the rookie draft.

But in saying that, I will agree because of the dilution of talent due the extra teams the standard of AFL (perhaps not at the best level which is why we have teams go 18-4 and not get top 2 anymore) has dropped so therefore until it evens out and the population increas by 12.5% they need to pick those players to have them on the list.

Yet 90% of those rookies won't produce a season anywhere near Carl's last year at Hawthorn even though it wasn't that good.

I tend to agree.
I have a feeling we will use two of our picks and save the other for the PSD, as per what the coach suggested at training. Probably chose one 'kid' with an eye to the future and one ready to play next year. Then, in the PSD there will be a respectable number of reasonable players to chose from by the looks of it. He may get picked up there. But more likely, as you have said, he may go through to the Rookie draft. In which case I hope we make a good effort to snare him.

For those 2 reasons alone I hope we give him a rookie spot.

Clubs make contact with a number of players pre-draft. At the end of the day, it generally means diddly squat. Heck, pre-draft Roughead thought he was locked-on to be a Tiger and Tambling had been around to Buckenara's house for BBQs pre-draft.

Simply because Geelong and North Melbourne may or may not have made contact with Peterson doesn't mean that either will draft him.

Peterson should be judged on his merits, like any other potential draftee.

Rookie spot without question, so long as we do our homework. I doubt anyone would put him on the primary list, except maybe GWS, but he doesnt want to leave Melbourne, so I doubt he would go. As a rookie, there is limited risk, he could add so much if he's right.

Would not be in the top 25 players in the club. Considering his past, what would be the point?

Flexibility. Depth.

Anyone picked as a rookie has slipped that far because there is a question over some aspect of their game. For Carl its not so much a question over ability but over work rate/ability to deal with the mental and lifestyle demands.

I'm not sure there will be any other players floating around at that stage of the draft with lower risk/better chance of becoming a player.

So I guess I'm saying the point is the same as any rookie - you put them on the list at a low cost to the club and hope they work on the aspects of their game/body/mentality that are lacking and in a year or two's time they become a player.

Very talented player but he's found it very difficult in the past to adjust to the demands imposed by being a professional AFL footballer.

If a club can harness his talents and keep him on the straight and narrow, then they would find themselves a player, no doubt.

Has all the skills BUT has his attitude to training changed?

The reason Changa, Mitchell, Sewell in particular are in the elite of the AFL and not just running around at Box Hill is because they are always in the first group on the track and last off the track, doing those vital 10 minutes of extra skills necessary to keep them at their peak.

When Chubbs was at Hawthorn he was in the group of Dowler, Thorp, Morton, - last on the track and first off with serious injuries like tripping over the daisy's and other near fatal injuries. He was happy to kick to kick but run, sprint run was not on the diet.

He would have needed to show under Michael Cooke he can be that man, first on, last off and a bloody hard worker inbetween. If he has demonstrated that on a regular basis then yes.

If he just mouths the words he wants back then stay right away and let him join another club and take them for all the $$$ he can.

Would rather pick a kid with heart. Did Hooper and Carl not teach us anything?

Hooper left Brisbane, surprise surprise he left us too.

Carl did a runner on Richmond..

Sorry guys I don't mean to intrude but I read in an earlier post that 3 clubs had made contact with Carl Peterson, one of them being North Melbourne. Was this mentioned on SEN or was it in one of the papers?
Cheers.

If we don't go for him then I would love to see him get picked up by another club. He didn't burn us at all, he just hit a brick wall in his career and life in general, but he seems like he is back on track again. These things can happen in life, and I think that he deserves another chance.

I agree - he came to us in the 2008 rookie draft, he worked really hard throughtout 2009 to overcome injuries & improve his fitness then played 17 games (think this number is right) in 2010. This is probably better than the average return on rookie selections.

Would be happy for him to come back if the penny has dropped.

The one thing I loved about Chubbs was his aerial ability. He added another dimension to our forward line in being able to take high flyers.

He would be a great fit as the creative medium forward for us.

Somehow I don't think he will end up back at Hawthorn.

Maybe you should go after troy taylor as well.

If we did, I could guarantee we'd do much better job of looking after the kid than Richmond did with Relton Roberts.
