Well DoubleA how about a trip report. :diamond::club::spade::heart:

Trip report!

Only played poker once, the night before my conference at Excalibur. The excalbur 'poker room' is the floor that has been roped off with about 4 tables and there was only 2 $2/3 tables running.

Bought in for $150, got up to $400 and got called on two strong bluffs, both time the guy (same dude) called with top pair even though I was re-raising on the turn both times representing well.

Oh well.

Also lost about $300 playing 3 card poker when I was killing time.

Losing $500 I feel is a relatively successful trip for me.

To be honest most of my two days was spent at the fantasy sports conference and various events off that, i.e: watching March Madness. Good times

Check out Aria, the new kid on the block, and report back

http://www.arialasvegas.com/casino/
I was in Vegas again in October last year. Played a couple of nightly tourneys at the Mirage, but also checked out Aria a couple of times.

I gotta say I liked Aria. The casino as a whole looks good and the poker room has a nice feel to it. Dealers were quality, as were the cocktail waitresses. The $125 nightly tourney has an attractive structure and although my best effort was only to break even (via a deal) in one of the two I played, I got a good deal of play in both. On my last night there I was sitting on the direct left of David Chicotsky, who runs The Maven VT training site (at the time I didn't know who it was, just that a couple of his mates in the tourney were wearing the patch, and I looked it up when I got home). Now there's a man who's punching well above his weight based on the chick that was with him. I guess money really does talk.

One thing I discovered at the Mirage: the 30% witholding tax for non-US citizens is only applied there when you win over $2K. This is different to what it was on my previous trip (12 months earlier). I quizzed them on this when I saw it listed in their terms & conditions and was assured by the poker room manager it was correct. Now, I only encountered this at the Mirage, so can't speak for other Vegas poker rooms.

Looks like I'll be going back later this year, similar time. My older brother turns 40 in October and his wife is giving him the BIG leave pass to head to Vegas with me. :thumbsu:

Aussie dollar briefly dipped it's big toe into $1.10 waters this morning. Sitting just off that right now. ANZ offering to sell @ $1.06.

I was considering being in Vegas the first 10 days of July, but now I'm thinking I may not go till August.

I get the impression the dollar has peaked.

AUD approaching $1.11 USD, tipped to go higher, possibly much higher.

Good time for an o/s trip. Also close to EU/GB highs.

81 days to go, my trip is getting cheaper every day:D:thumbsu:

93 sleeps for me. Been scouring AllVegasPoker for likely tournies to play. Will definitely hit the Aria poker room again.

Wow, we must be getting into Vegas on nearly the same day. I am going to NY first up to catch a Jets game. Getting to Vegas on 27/10.

My only other trip there was 2 years ago, and I watched the workmen go in and out of the Aria construction site, so I look forward to getting in there:thumbsu:

By your post I am guessing it is a good place to play:thumbsu:

My bro and I arrive in LV on Oct 29 and then head to LA on Nov 4. If the NBA wasn't gonna be in lockout (highly unlikely that it won't still be come early November) we'd be looking to get to the Clippers-Grizzlies game on the 4th.

I saw Aria from outside just before it opened in late '09 and then went there in October last year. Didn't play any cash, just nightly tournies. Really nice casino, and poker room, with really nice looking waitresses; good dealers too.

Just found out my brother and I have jagged free accomodation at either Bellagio (the most likely), Caesar's or Paris. A friend's dad lives in Vegas and is teeing it up for us. We'll save ourselves about a grand! :thumbsu:

In Vegas from Oct 22/27th then moving onto Atlanta

Ceasers Poker Classic first week runs when I'm there so will most likely hit up a few events and try for my first Vegas cash, theres a decent $560 and some $350s on offer which suit perfect

I head off on Sunday. Happy with the $$ rally, although I had paid for accommodation, sports tickets etc when the $$ was 1.05 anyway.

Vegas on the 27th. Can't wait!!

Although I can't say it has an impact on the poker play, I can highly recommend visiting Vegas during Halloween. The place goes off even more than usual! Especially Fremont St on Halloween night. Was it Motley Crue who sang "Girls! Girls! Girls!"? :D

Thursday night before Hollawoon I was at the Cosmopolotin and they had some dress up party and some of the women walking around afterwards

They just dont exist anywhere else in the world I'm convinced of it

From what I heard the Halloween celebrations started on the Thursday and went until the Monday. Apparently the massive parties took place on the Saturday night.

It's like Halloween just raises (lowers?) the bar for how $luttily women in Vegas will dress. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

On a separate topic, I had only one star spot while I was in Sin City: Johnny Chan playing Chinese poker at Aria. I wandered past Sam Barnhart too, the yokel-sounding dude who won the WSOP Circuit championship. Made a pretty deep run in the Main Event.

Halloween was amazing, seriously seemed everyone was dressed up for it.

Aria poker room was great.

I went to the final table of the Main Event. Ended up sitting in the front row when a guy from ESPN came and asked if I wanted to sit in the players area behind the table. Got to speak to Scotty Ngyuen and Phil Hellmuth for a short time, but then got stuck into the free drinks being served. Sat with the Staszko group who were a good bunch.

Definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity, it was amazing!!

Watching Live at the Bike on http://www.pokernetcast.com/live-poker/ and wondering if it would be worth going to LA to play a little poker. Everyone thinks Vegas or Atlantic City, but LA has to be considered. Commerce, Bicycle, Hollywood Park, etc

Here's some LA info - http://tworags.com/files/la comps.htm

Whenever someone speaks to a Vegas local about moving there to play, 99% of them say if your willing to move it might as well be LA

The games are bigger and much juicier apparently

Played at the Commerce when I was there recently. One heck of a huge poker room that.

The LA Open was on at the time I was there and they had set up a second poker room as well.

Came across this 2+2 Pokercast episode which includes a fantastic interview with Steve Cyr:
http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/9...t-episode-55-ashton-griffin-steve-cyr-387121/

For those who aren't familiar with the name, Cyr is something of a modern legend amongst Vegas casino hosts and the primary focus of the book Whale Hunt in the Desert (a book I highly recommend, by the way).

Interview starts at the 1:33.05 mark and goes for about 40 minutes.
