someone like monfils is 1 player who i could see giving him problems in the future simply because he is as unothordox as tomic is, he throws guys out of their rhythm all the time, watching the match today you dont know what your going to get with gael, must be the most infuriating guy to coach, guess you gotta ask roger rasheed.

In GQ Magazine they rated Monfils to be tennis's equivalent of Kobe Bryant

Oh god .

Gotta say that the Kooyong tournament is losing a bit of it's class. It used to be hotly competed, now it's nothing more than exhibition / practice matches.

Wish it was part of the ATP.

He will contend longer than Lleyton Hewitt did as a tennis player

After Hewitt got knocked off the number 1 spot his career went into freefall

have to disagree. still managed to beat federer in late 03, and floated around the top 10 until around 2006. was never a world beater after he lost number one ranking but still matched it with some of them

Don't worry, it's a XFactor post. I'm sure he doesn't remember the two slam finals Hewitt made in 2004 and 2005. Was unlucky that he run into an even hotter player at the '05 Open final or he was close to winning that.

I see him becoming like Murray. Firmly inside the top ten and constructs points very well, but lacks the massive weapon that allows him to collect Slams.

He may pinch one, but I can't see him becoming a great.

Pardon? Already has more weapons than Murray, world class slice and backhand. Yes forehand can be on an off (he is 19 afterall). But I would be betting Murray is less chance of winning slams than Tomic. Tomic has the weapons, has a 200kmph serve, is solid at the net, and a devastating backhand and slice. What has Murray got? A serve..and...he is good at the net (rarely serve volleys though, which is stupid).

Will win 7-10 slams.

7-10? That puts in the same class as Agassi, or in other words one of the all-time greats. Djokovic might not get that many.

Not a chance.

I will be surprised if he gets less than 7, as he has enormous potential. Will struggle on the clay but the other 3, suit his game perfectly and lets not forget he will be in his prime while the top 4 are basically gone. Who of the young players in Tomic's bracket will challenge him (I will give you the American, the name escapes me, played well in Brisbane). I expect him to win 7-10 slams.

Considering Murray has a big server and great slice, it's a fair comparison. Murray is also one of the best scramblers going around at the moment. That's an area that Tomic could improve, albeit his body will hold up better if he continues to stand up in the court like Federer has his whole career.

One thing Tomic has in his favour is that he may play out his career in quite a weak era. He will probably still be peaked as the big 4 are going down and then at the moment it doesn't look like there is much top talent. There is Dmitrov, Raonic, and Harrison, but Tomic is ahead of those imo.

Murray does not have a great slice, yes it is decent, but great would surely be pushing it, he misses a lot of slices. The serve I agree, I did say he had a good serve, and that is the area Tomic needs to improve, he needs a 210kmph "bomb" serve to rely on.

Djokovic could be a contender for another 4-5 years. I think Nadal's body will fail him, but he could be a contender for a similar time frame. Murray is young.

Tomic is going to have to wait a while for a weak era to come his way, if it ever happens.

Djokovic and Murray could be contenders in 5 years yes, but they are unlikely to be at their peak. If Tomic peaks at 24, Djoko and Murray will be close to 30.

Is he of Serbian or Croatian blood?
Or of some other ex Yugoslav republic? Pity he didnt play for his heritage.

Croatia, family fled to Germany then came here.
Why would he want to represent the country that his family fled from. If it was such a great place people wouldn't be leaving in droves

So frustrating how we constantly produce mentally weak sportsmen.

What horse shit.

Either way, he will get bagged out.

Have a head strong personality like Lleyton Hewitt and gets accused of being an arrogant wank, then you have a comment like this regarding Bernard Tomic and he is mentally weak. Horse shit comments.

How about just saying the other player (Fernando Verdasco) was simply better. Nothing to do with being mentally weak or any of that crap - he just played some better shots.
