Have to admit it Australians love racial issues. Look at the Herald Sun and The Age when there is an explosive topic on race, hundreds of comments within hours. Everyone has their opinion and certainly likes to express it, it’s a hilarious read.

I'm born and bread OZZZIIIII and i can see that Australians are pretty racist
As a nation we are very young and maybe that explains part of it ?
Maybe humans just resent anything that is " different "
I can't seem to find much to like about the Indians i come across with and that is just a personal thing i have had so far but am I now racist for having these thoughts ?
I would never treat anyone different because of race so i think not

Racism exists in all countries, Australian isnt any different. India has the Caste System, UK has a a class system, Africa has a tribal System, and so on and son on..............Education is the key to overcoming predujice, and being strong enough to say that racism is not acceptable. Theere is along way to go before change will happen unfortunately, and its not an issue unique to Australia

But sometimes, you gotta admit that some problems are much more common in some cultures (races?) and can't simply paint over it like "oh, we are human, we all bleed the same colour". These problems have to be addressed before progress in education is made.

Did you not post early on that everyone has the same access to healthcare in this country?

In terms of 'race'... yes!

..., do believe access is equitable in areas where Aboriginals make up a large portion of the population?

(* indigenous... is the PC and non racist term. Aboriginal is considered derogatory and racist) :)

Again, any access limitations you're referring to there would be due to geographical issues and not race.

I'm sure the indigenous residents of Redfern have equal access to Sydney health services. Just as the Caucasian residents making up the bulk population of a remote township would have limited access to services.

I'm not suggesting that is evidence of racism; I'm suggesting your original assertion is a rash generalisation.

Well the context of this thread and my posts is based in racism... the only 'rash' thing here has been your happy-trigger-without-thinking replies.

I think racism has become such a pc issue that any little thing said whether it be a joke or totally harmless statement can be blown up into a major issue.

Recently at a party I got accused of being a racist by some pc preachers for saying to someone I knew well that he needed a tan. The guy in question was a dark Maori.

True. The term "racist" is thrown around a lot these days. Some people forget what it actually means.

There is a lot of racism in Australia, but then there is a lot of racism in most countries.

We're better than a lot of places, but we are not as accepting as a lot of Australians would like to make out.

Racism is an evolutionary trait associated with our tribal heritage (i.e. fear outsiders/those that are different).

I don't have any issues with racism as long as it it true e.g.
African American males have a higher homicide rate per capita (racist yes, true yes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_and_crime_in_the_United_States).

The real issue for me is racial discrimination i.e. "You can't have the job because you're Black" or "You're not allowed on this bus".

I'm an admitted racist but I'm not a racial discriminator.

I know you guys will say Racism and Racial Discrimination are the same thing ... not in my mind.

Exactly. This is correct.

Australia is a very multi cultural place, and it works to an extent.

But as a whole I still beleive Australia to be one of the most racist countries in world.

I don't know if I'd call us one of the most racist countries in the world. We are nowhere near as racist as somewhere like Japan, for example. I just meant that most countries have a fair bit of racism and Australia's no exception.

Not on the surface, Australia isn't racist at all...They're accepting to all races and religons.

But you go to the 'real' people.. The people in the workforce, people you see at the footy, people you see on the train, people you see day to day and a lot of white Australians are very racist.

Some of the stuff I hear towards aboriginals, muslims and Indians in particular is downright disgusting.

Also, the way Australia has handled its relationship with the aboriginals is terrible. Haven't done them any good. They should of followed the way of the US (in terms of African Americans), and let them actually do something for themselves to better themselves. Rather then let them sit there and wait for handouts. You could blame the aboriginals for that though I guess I'm no expert.

But that isn't a racist comment.

It would be racist if you said that people of African descent are inherently violent or dumb, or something like that.

Yeah but if you did an IQ test of people of African descent and compared them to white americans the white americans would probably come out with a higher average. And if you looked at the stats for people convicted of violent crimes black people would probably be higher represented. So in a way you could say that people of African descent are "violent" and "dumb". But try getting away with saying that in public! :)

Not really, IQ is all about environment and socioeconomic factors. Africa has been plagued by conflict and war because of colonization. However, given the chance African would shine. For example, the most successful migrant group in America is the African Diaspora. Africans have the highest educational attainment rates of any immigrant group including the Asian Diaspora.

It is really all about hard work, determination and will power. Personally, I think the AA community have been mentally beaten down and even doubt their own ability to succeed. Racism has taken a toll on their community.

Their perceptions has been distorted and feel the system is against them while Africans don’t.

based on what...........that is so general and such a simplistic thing to say.

Based on everyday people I encounter.

Deadly unna

There you go, gaz.

By AA, you mean African American people? Then yeah, true.

IQ tests are a joke. I hate it when people see an African and automatically label them stupid or whatever. Given the right tools, the right environment there is no limit.. Africans as a whole are determined people, if they have a chance they will take it!!

You're looking at it from the position of a white man who is in the racial majority, and is therefore rarely on the receiving end of racial abuse.

Go spend a few years in a country like China or Hong Kong.

Edit: Was gonna throw Gwai Lo in there for to emphasise the point, but figured against it.
