What to expect from Didak this year.

Will we see the 2010 model or 2011 model?

What form, how will he be used, will he get his brilliance back or has that all gone now.

What do you think?

It is clear what version of Didak we see depends on one thing, fitness.

Last year he missed most of the pre season after carrying the pec injury through the 2010 finals series, and you may have well ignored the fact he went around last year, because he wasn't a shadow of himself for most of the year.

I think we should use him as a permanent half forward/forward option from now on, no more using him in the midfield.

If he can stay fit, and get a good pre season under his belt leading into round, there's not a half forward in the AFL that is better the Dids.

He could well be our secret weapon, along with the returning Nate Brown.:)

He had no strapping on his shoulder in today's training photos, courtesy of Brian, and looked really fit.

He also appeared to be in a good place mentally.

Last year was a write off for a player of his calibre, due in huge part to injury and then likely a secondary loss of confidence, and I'm hoping for a really dangerous Didak again this year.

He could be ideal floating around the forward line, where the main focus is likely to be on the big two.

Time in the midfield is possible depending on how things go, but maybe there's younger players with better fitness to play there, not sure.

I just thing for the longevity of Dids, both for this season and for a few years afterwards, it would be better if he becomes a full time forward now. The support he and MaCaffer gave to Cloke and Dawes in the last few months of 2010 was a large reason why we won the flag.

And with no obvious other tall forward options that will be playing consistently at senior level in 2012, Dids and Caff are the two medium sized forwards who we should go with.

Saw those pics too, hopefully he gets through the whole pre season without any setbacks, and he can launch into 2012 as a virtual new recruit.:)

i have high expectations of Dids this year - to regain the swagger, confidence and cockiness. I want him to really concentrate on his defensive work up forward, with the odd midfield minutes.

seasons avgs statistically - 21games, 20 touches, 1.5 goals, 3 tackles and 7 contested possessions - seems doable!

I'm not sure he'll match 2010 just because that was Didak's best season, but I think he'll definitely be closer to 2010 form than 2011. I see too many similarities between 2007 and 2011. Both years he was injured late the season before, had surgery, missed most of the preseason and then struggled with fitness the whole year and being restricted to the forward line. It's Didak's running ability that sets him apart, and considering he's been training well I think he'll play well again. I wouldn't even be surprised if he was in AA contention again.

He'll never get back to his 2010 form, that was his peak year. He is getting older Dids, and as much as I hate to say it, by the middle of the year he may not be in the team.

In saying that, I think his form will be slightly better than 2011. In fact, could it get any worse than 2011?

i love dids, so many people are writing him off saying his finished.
its going to be extrememly difficult for him to try and better fasolo.
Huh? You say people are writing Didak off and then you say it would be extremely difficult to better Fasolo? Either you really rate Fasolo extremely highly or you're writing Didak off as well!

Fasolo is a 13 game player with a handful of those being as a sub (and has never broken 20 disposals), while Didak is two time AA (unlucky not to be three or four) coming off an injury riddled year. The only thing in Fasolo's favour is age and potential.

I'm thinking we'll get a Dids more like the 2006 version. Plenty of high HF and the odd small stint on a wing. Averaging about 20 possies and 1 or 2 goals a game.

Not only did he have no pre-season last year, but he came across to me as possibly one of those players that has a premiership hangover. You know the type that plays for most of their career to achieve the ultimate, he achieves that and then takes the next year off so to speak. The hunger just isn't there. Come the following year, realises he wants that feeling again.

I'm expecting a very good year. Elite kicking doesn't disappear overnight.

rate fasolo very highly bro

While i agree, I also said the same about Leon last year
The same Leon who got smashed in the prelim by Puopolo, and the GF by about 4 different opponents.;)

No need to change our back 6 dramatically, BJ and Clarke are enough for the small defender role, they can alternate and easily cover Leon, especially defensively.

This Bloke talks the most sense on this board, get around him:thumbsu:

Lol as if. A fully fit Didak would run rings around Fasolo.

Fasolo did jack s**t in last years granny and never should have got a game ahead of Goldsack.

Surely if Didak is being considered for a defensive role this will be obvious from training. I would prefer him up the field doing whatever his fitness dictates he can do. With a full pre-season, there is every reason to believe he will play better this year.

Didak is a real concern going into this season. At his best we know what he offers. He's a star that changes the course of a match. At his worst we get a slow, defensively weak, soft liability on a forward line that is crying out for aggression and speed. Or in midfield where against a side like Geelong it is difficult to carry such an outside player. How we utilise Didak and how much patience we give him will be a very interesting to watch. Getting the best out of Didak is one of Buckleys many challenges as coach.

I have zero expectation, anything we get is a bonus

His confidence in his body and taking hits was more of a worry than fitness I thought

I'd play him off half back R1 NAB as a designated kick inner and get him reaccustomed to tackling, bumping and just general combat

If we are going to play more corridor footy under Bucks we might need some flair amongst our troopers down back especially with Leon gone, so testing him out there might be a worthwhile project
