Machine Head/ System clash is ****ing lame. Would have liked to see Paradise Lost but saw Trivium at Soundwave in 2010 and it was probably the equal best set I've seen alongside Metallica 2010.

Turisas
Chimaira (Hardly Chimaira anymore but oh well)
Black Dahlia Murder
Times of Grace
Gojira
Hellyeah
Alter Bridge
Meshuggah
Bush
In Flames
Trivium
Mastodon
Lamb of God
BLS/Slipknot?
Devin Townsend Project
System/Machine Head - What do I do???? :(

Too many bands playing I think.

Yes, 4a/4b are outdoors. In 2010 it was in the shed thing, but that was reserved for pop punk last year I believe.

Thanks mate - I just had a look at their map and a satellite image and it will be a great set-up cos I remember those stages now. An old codger like me can spend some time in the seats maybe for the early metal bands and then get in closer when Mastodon/LoG come on.

Also, it is an easy walk to the Stage 6 and the main stages.

Adelaide has a great setup, I'm going over for that SW rather than Melbs. Had a great time in 09 there, sounds like the setup is different but probably better.

Main clash is obviously SOAD/Machine Head but the triple clash of Lamb of God/Dillinger Escape Plan/Hatebreed is painful too!

Adelaide setup is the same as last years, which worked pretty well for me. Plenty of open spaces and no real bottlenecks around the place. Some of the stages are a little close together though, but if you get close enough then that's not a problem.

My only wish is that there is more catering this time, as lines for food were shit last year (drinks weren't so bad). Unfortunately with both the Fringe and Clipsal 500 on that weekend, I don't imagine it will be...

If anyone knows of some Sydney-siders looking for SW tickets, hit me up. I have had to pull out from our planned roadtrip, and we now have 4 available.

**** ****ING ****ITY ****EN ****BAGS ****.

I would have gladly taken 2 of those Echols but when I had resigned myself to not getting a ticket I booked an overnight trip to Darwin for a mates surprise 40th and don't get back until 9.15 Sunday night.

I only booked the flights yesterday.

Just wasn't meant to be man.

I'm still hoping a wedding I am going to in country NSW on the 2nd of March is cancelled and I'll shoot down to the Adelaide show.

I'll keep an ear out for you in Sydney over the next couple of days.

Get Adelaide tickets footyhead. Just do it!

Got the ticket mate just the logistics of getting there from Ulladulla or near by. The wedding is on a ****ing island or some shit and the ferry service is only once a day on and once a day off. It's the brides friends so I haven't even really looked into it properly.

I'll get there if I can.

Fasterlouder has printed very recent setlists for some of the bands. Apologies if I'm slightly incorrect on identifying some of these albums, also I don't have every LoG or Mastodon album to be able to identify these quickly:

SOAD (28 songs in 100 minutes last night) - 10 Toxicity, 7 Mezmorize, 6 Hypnotise, 4 SOAD, 1 Steal This Album

LoG (16 songs all up): 4 Resolution, 3 Sacrement, 3 Ashes, 1 As the Palaces, 4 on the Wrath Live CD that came with the recent release

Mastodon: (23 songs so obviously going to have to clip a few in a 1 hour show): 7 Hunter, 2 Crack The Skye, 5 Leviathon, 4 Blood Mountain

And there's the reason I won't be worried if I miss Mastodon. "0 Remission".

I wasn't thorough enough with Mastodon (now corrected):

Mastodon: (23 songs so obviously going to have to clip a few in a 1 hour show): 9 Hunter, 2 Crack The Skye, 5 Leviathon, 5 Blood Mountain, 2 Remission

I hope they have a good hard look at that set-list next time they write an album.

Crack the Skye and Hunter are fairly average compared to the prior 3 albums, and it seems they've even noted this by how many songs they play from them.

Spent a very pleasant day in the suurounds of Homebush yesterday. Pulled up better than expected after actually making it into the zone for Bizkit and staying there for Slipknot.

Metal stage still overcrowded for guys like Trivium, Hell Yeah and Gojira. Never seem to be able to strike the right balance for this stage at Homebush. These guys probably are in the right area but the metal stage just doesn't seem to be big enough to cope.

Personally, I would have gone with slipknot instead of SOAD to finish. Soad were good but it's pretty hard to follow up a Slipknot performance.

Disappointed with Manson. Not sure what I had been expecting but his incoherent ramblings and generally poor performance were the downer on a great day.

Go and have a look at Cherri Bomb if you can't pick a band to see in the morning. They are a developing young group of girls with some talent. More girls in rock/metal needs to be encouraged.

If you were going to see CKY because of Bam, forget it. Mumbled a few words and sat down next to the drums for most of the set. CKY were pretty good though.

Biggest surprise was the appearance of Slash during the AlterBridge set. AB would have been 2nd fav of the day after slipknot.

Hope you all enjoy your day as much as I did.

Good, first time I had seen them live footyhead. Their stage seemed to plagued by some technical problems all day but they powered through it. Affected other bands as well. One of Triviums guitars was missing was missing for part of in waves.

First French metal band I've heard.

Thanks mate.

I've missed the whole Soundwave/Sidewaves thing and it was Gojira I'm most upset about missing.

Oh well, next time.

mastodon absolutely ripped it. I'm only a casual fan of theirs, and was 50/50 on seeing them as I'd heard they were pretty hit and miss live, but am very glad I did see them - very impressive.

steel panther owned it for me. consumate pro muso's and hilarious.
was surprised at just how many people knew them, and the crowd was huge!
:thumbsu:

biohazard were also great - much better than I'd expected as well given their last couple of albums were pretty lacklustre. of course as soon as they played anything from 'urban discipline', the whole place (me included) went mental.

was good to also (finally) see the cro-mags rip through 'street justice' and 'world peace'. old school nyhc represent!

manson was completely off his chops, and very disappointing. I'd never seen him (despite quite liking his antichrist superstar album), and was looking forward to finally seeing him, but it was majorly disappointing.
oh, and it looks like he's been eating all of the pies too.

slipknot put on a great show - the singers voice seems to have improved immeasurably, and I agree with all of the comments saying they should have headlined. great sound, pyro and the dj jumping off the scaffolding = good show

machine head sounded great and put on a good show - last time I saw them was on their first (burn my eyes) tour so it's been awhile for me. my only complaint was too much new stuff.

super-pissed off with the last minute timetable changes meaning I missed the first half of black dahlia (a personal favourite).

thought watain were pretty ordinary honestly - don't know them very well but for some reason was expecting them to sound more like dissection (yay), but they didn't (boo).
the burning crosses etc looked good though, and the bassplayer deserves credit for the stupidest haircut in metal since devin townsend's skullet.

that's it off the top of my head - speaking of which I got sunburnt as shit, so feeling decidedly sore today.

ps. I accidentally heard a whole trivium song whilst waiting for mastodon to play, and now I fear that my ears have turned gay.

A few unfortunate clashes in Adelaide. Really wanted to check out Raised Fist, but are on at the same time as Machine Head AND SOAD. Also will miss CRO-MAGS/Devin Townsend unless I get bored with Slipknot. Have to chose between The Dillinger Escape Plan and Lamb of God.
Looking forward to Gojira, Heaven Shall Burn, Meshuggah, Paradise Lost, Mastodon, Kvelertak. Will check out Let Live, Staind, Biohazard, Black Dahlia Murder, maybe Chimaira/Times of Grace/CKY. Anyone see Hyro Da Hero? Any good?

Was anyone else at the Mastodon, Gojira, Kvelertak sideshow last night?
It was awesome, but....

Two of my mates swear to me that Joe of Gojira was in the pit with them for Mastodon, and offered them Soundwave tickets.....at first I thought they were kidding, or just extremely drunk...but after an hour of me telling them after the show that they were obviously mistaken they still wouldn't have it. Anyone else see this?
