Stab this shouldn't be this hard mate.....

You honestly think the next two games are going to be an indicator of what's to come? Do you?

By the time the clash against the GC rolls around, nobody will even remember where these games were played, let alone who lined up in them.

And as for me being disappointed with our February approach, I've actually stated elsewhere that I think Sanderson all but shares my view on its relevance and importance. I guarantee you he is holding back the vast majority of his tactical plans. We ain't seen nothing yet.

Slippery Pete, when you perform your one-man show Jolson Sings Again, do you dress-up in black-face  or is your face just red?:p

You are becoming a favourite of mine. Keep up the good work.

P.s- I sung that to Vader while I was in Canberra. He didn't seem that impressed. He's a hard task master, ole' Sheldon.

Yes, I do think they will be an indicator of what's to come. Far from perfect, but a decent indicator.

Given that we've both presented what we think are crystal clear reasons for our viewpoint and still can't understand each other I don't think this debate is going anywhere

Next game is a trial of a lot of youngsters, then we'll kick it into gear with teams that will be much closer to R1 teams in our final 2 games, which ever level they're played at.

I was going to ask about that. If we don't make the MMC final, then do we play a "challenge" game at Mt Gambier or somewhere like that?

AFL will schedule the final round once NAB participants are known.

I'd imagine they'll schedule GWS and Sydney as a bye as they play the sole game in Round 1 the following week.

I HOPE they would be generous enough to send teams to proper venues, but given the games won't be telecast, I imagine country folk will get some love.

Yeah, all 16 other teams do, and then every team plays another game a week later. I'm not sure about GWS and Sydney though considering they are playing a week before everyone else.

And SP, the pre season comp does have a point, it allows coaches to trial things for the season proper and test players in different positions. Nobody was trying to say doing well in it would lead to a flag that year, but it can certainly kick start a teams season nicely.

Also, teams have always gone stronger in the last couple of weeks of pre season, so I'm not sure what you are trying to argue. It seems like you are arguing again for the sake of arguing.

I don't think the NAB Cup will give us much indication about how we'll go this season necessarily, but towards the latter end it will give us more of an indication of who we'll be likely to pick.

I agree. I think you need to be a little careful with what you take out of the NAB Cup. Different teams are playing with different goals. If Sando was seriously worried about winning the NAB Cup he'd be sending a more experienced team to Alice.
But you'd expect to see a fairly similar line up to R1 in the last week of NAB games I would have thought.

Can't wait for Round 1 and the first real game. For mine, I think we'll see at least one of Kerridge, McIntyre and / or Brown line up in R1, and quite probably also Lynch.

Pumped for the new era.

Phearless Phil was on the radio this morning. He was asked whether the club thought the pre-season is too long, and he said they don't mind it being four weeks long, as it gives them a chance to get three games into each player, which the club thinks is just the right amount of preparation. He said the last thing they want to do is have any player play every weekend of the pre-season. He said each player would be given one weekend off.

Therefore, it would stand to reason the last game of the pre-season would be no better indicator of selection than the first.

Not if we rest our best 22 in the first 3 weeks

Except that the first game is a hybrid mishmash of rules that won't be a part of the actual season.

Particularly if we don't make the GF, we play with relatively normal rules in the final round, and we also avoid playing in a mudbath like we will tonight.

Another week, another few bits of info to go on.

I didn't see the game but I will be interested to see people's versions of their Rnd 1 team. Any changes? Anything definitive come out of the game?

McKernan vs Jenkins? Lynch, Johnston...? McIntyre vs Callinan?

Seems like lots of kids played on both sides though. More possibles on the field than probables.

Lynch is clearly in front Johston, by a long way; Mckernan and Jerkins both performed better than expected; McIntyre and Callinan equally rated - That may go down to the wire.

Some tough calls to make for Sando.
McKernan very good in general play tonite, but for me Jenkins more of a genuine ruck and kicked very well for goal.
Lynch impressed. Johnston did not get near it much.
McIntyre v Callinan is also close. Callinan showed some glimpses of class, McIntyre also going OK with maybe more to look forward to long term.
Kerridge looks like he has a big future, but disposal pretty untidy at the moment.
I really liked the way Petrenko attacked the game, would be R1 pick for me.
Plenty of GENUINE pressure for selection, which is a nice place for a change!

Lynch is a shoe in I reckon.
Still a toss up between Jenkins and Smack.
Shaw ahead of Johnston and Thompson.
Callinan in.
Smith definate starter.
Otten best game in a long time, keeps that up and he deserves his spot on merit.
