Once you pay your money for a ticket, you have the right to leave when you want. Why do people even care? Is it because it looks bad?

You clearly weren't at the two games that Collingwood has won by 50+ in the last couple of years. Was hardly a Hawthorn supporter left in the ground by the last quarter of those ones.

i go to all games in melbourne and interstate too i never leave till the end and i was not talking my mob i know some leave but not as many as other teams i have been to floggings before from 2003 onwards i still have never left till after that siren i know some leave for good reasons too , work , appointments as well not just cause their team is losing but i am saying in games you have lost to us i have not seen many of your mob leave before like i did friday night that shocked me it was a close game till not that far from the end so was a surprise to me that people would leave like that

when was it last you beat us by 50 plus too just remind me what year that was please

A lot of people were also attending a Steve Earle gig at The Corner hotel in Richmond, and left the MCG at three quarter time. I watched the game in a pub in Swan St then when we were 9 points down, I rushed to the Corner entering as Steve was half way through the first song. I got the final result from a latecomer in a Collingwood jumper. It is the first hawks/Coll game I have missed in 5 years.

2010 ...rd 4 you won [missed that before] but yes i stayed till the end ...
2009 ... i was there ... (etc etc)
Well, what a hero! So you were one of the very few Hawk supporters to stay to the end of those thrashings in 2011 and 2010.

BTW - Thanks also for those long lists of excuses you offered for those losses of past years. Most imformative.

Every club has its supporters who don't stick it out to the end. Its not something Pies are alone in.
in some cases it makes sense, like if you have to catch a Vline - I know they are pretty strict on when they leave.

but for all other reasons it doesn't makes sense. 30 minutes to wait for the next train isnt the end of the world. being stuck in the jam on Punt RD for 20 minutes instead of 10 isnt that big of a deal. If your worried about your kids, wait 15 minutes peacefully in your seat and then go. I personally stay in the ground until I get kicked out. Grounds are void of people walking around looking for cars, and you still get home at a pretty good hour.

I used to be one of those that stayed till the end no matter what.

But then I realised, what's the point? Me staying is not going to achieve anything except make me miserable and angry, and why should I torture myself?

Now I leave when the game is done and dusted, even if that happens to be before the final siren, and I make no apologies for it.

Look at it is way ...

5 goals down, 15 minutes to play. Collingwood players look up and see supporters in the black and white streaming out the aisles.

What would the players be thinking?

Maybe they would give their supporters the benefit of the doubt and think that they have more pressing engagements to get to at 11 o'clock on a Friday night.

Or maybe they'd be impressed by the thriftiness of their supporters for getting out to the carpark early and getting home ahead of the masses.

Or maybe the players simply don't give a toss about the supporters? The whole '19th player' thing was simply a ruse by the club to get the membership tally up.

Rarely do people walk out 15 minutes before the end of opera, theatre, orchestra or other live music concerts. It's uncouth. Sure, the average footballer might not be as precious as the average Opera performer.

But still, I think there's some bad psychology there that should be avoided.

That's the standard I apply to myself, but I don't judge others for thinking differently.

I would think they have better things to think about than what the fans are doing.

As for opera, that's hardly the same thing. The opera is not a competition where there is a winner and a loser and people pick sides.

So the presence (or absence) of fans doesn't matter to the players? So the fans cheering and chanting (or filling the aisles and leaving early) isn't noticed by the players? We can't have it both ways.

It's all entertainment - leaving early sends a signal that we disapprove of the performance (rightly or wrongly). I wasn't happy about the loss on Friday night but I thought the lads put on a good show - I'm going to continue watching them this season.

And I was particularly impressed that the lads managed to get a goal back in the dying minutes - long after the game had been lost.

Agree Coddy I doubt the Players would look and care about what the Fans are doing. Maybe might Rev them up to show them they left too Early Maybe.

I never leave 15 Miunutes before the End. I leave about 22-23 Minute Mark in the Last if we are gone

Yeah but People Pay to Come to the Footy and they have the Right to leave when they want. We all don't have to be the Same and stay to the End of a Game.

My Personal Opnion on people who Complain about it are over the top saying you should stay to the End no matter what

It may be noticed, and I'm sure they enjoy it when the crowd goes nuts, but I don't believe it has anything to do with their performance, and I really don't think they'd stop and think "oh noes, their leaving, they mustn't like us anymore"

I don't think anyone here is going to stop watching them this season (or any season for that matter), whether they left early or not. I was disappointed that they lost, but I'm not at all worried about the season, in fact I'm pretty optimistic about it. I'll be back next week (and the one after, and the one after that... etc).

Never understood why leaving early has such a stigma to it.

I stayed to the end, but who gives a ****!

Exactly. Both diehard and bandwagoner supporters leave. I do it. I'm one of the most optimistic pie supporers but I just can't bear to watch the last 5 minutes of a lost cause. I just can't do it. I'm sorry. I can watch it if we were 50 points down and were having a good quarter but I don't think it makes a difference if I'm there or not. It's no show of solidarity to stay.

Maybe Buckley should have less meetings and concentrate on practicing a plan to kick the ball in properly and stop the opposition taking their kick ins the length of the field!:thumbsu:

Some good points there. How many meetings is he taking currently. How many do you think is the optimal amount of meetings?

Current number of meetings off the field is 3/4 per day except for the days he Buckley off.

Meeting needed off the field per day - 1

Current amount of time spent practicing kick outs and opposition team kick outs - 20 minutes a week.

Amount of time needed to be spent practicing kick outs and opposition team kick outs - 300 mintes a week.

I could not believe my eyes at about the 20 min mark . The sight of Collingwood supporters leaving in their hundreds was bitterly disappointing .

Nathan Buckley stayed till the final siren not making a quick exit to the car .

I left early...doesn't make me any less passionate. I go to every game and have to travel over an hour to get there. Its a long way home and i don't get there before midnight. If someone wants to pay me the money bucks gets I will not hesitate to stay. We turn the radio straight on and listen.
Get over it...people have lots of reasons for leaving early and unlike the richmond game I did not see one torn up membership!! Go Pies

I don't normally leave early, but I did in the GF last year. That's one match where I couldn't continue to watch.

I don't dislike people for leaving early, but I think we have had such a good couple of years, that I reckon most people should be able sit through a loss.

By the way, it can take me an 1 to 1 1/2 hours to get to the footy and the same on the way home. I don't get home until after midnight.
