Funny how he declares its guaranteed to get $1.2b but then talks about the strategy that the NRL will use if it falls short of the $1b mark.

s**t article

First paragraph
RUGBY LEAGUE is guaranteed a $1.2 billion broadcasting deal, with monopoly pay-TV network Fox Sports declaring it won't be beaten for the five-year rights

Last paragraph
The existing $500 million six-year deal will certainly be exceeded but in the unlikely event the top bid falls short of $1 billion over five years, the new ARL Commission will probably insist on a short-term deal, knowing broadcasters demand surety in their planning and programming. They will gamble on this strategy driving the broadcasters back to the negotiating table.

So are they guaranteed the money or not?

Why on Earth would a Weagles fan refer to the game as the Southern code? In any case, what does it really matter to the AFL what League gets in their TV rights?

It is a quote from the article, Kwality was quoting it.

I'll forgive you for not reading the article as RM is as much as a journo as Shoenmakers is a fullback

The Sydney based code to get $1.2b:

... & to add fuel to the fire:

The AFL has significantly less support in regional Australia, which is why the southern code traditionally uses six capital city numbers when it boasts about free-to-air ratings.

Clear bullshit, the AFL use 5 capital city numbers just like the TV networks do, It is one of the reason that Tasmania isn't in line for a team its ratings aren't counted.

The idiot Masters trying desperatley to boost the Thugby LOL

This is the same clown who said the AFL wouldnt get 800mil.

Unless a regional tv network is going to bid then why do regional ratings matter ? The metro stations get 30% of the ad revenue from regional stations.

He's been writing this s**t for 18 months, saying the new TV deal for the NRL is just around the corner. His justification for the 1.2b figure is nothing more that it's slightly more than what the AFL received and in his mind the NRL is a more valuable product.

They will be lucky to crack 700m. One thing Masters and the Daily Terrorgraph consistently forget is that the AFL has 9 games a week, the NRL only has 8.

And the guy he is quoting as his source is the head of FoxSports, not Foxtel! Of course it's in his interests to have more NRL games, but he doesn't have FOXTEL's piggy bank! He better hope the new CEO of FOXTEL feels the same way!

This isn't an AFL board topic.
