The difference is that he didn't do it.
Everyone is worried that we are going to lose our stars. We sign Dawes on a smaller contract than what he could have got elsewhere and we are singing his praises and thanking him for staying. Then in round 3 he gets jeered by his supporters. Not really encouraging for him to stick around any longer is it?
Worried about losing Pendles. He signs and on Friday night he gets jeered.
Worried about losing Cloke? he hasn't signed yet. Getting jeered isn't going to help us secure him.
Everyone says that Collingwood look after their own. Jeering isn;t looking after them.

I agree with whoever (may have been matty's) mentioned earlier that an email to members would have been a better way to go about it. I just don't think he wold have been reaching everyone he wanted to deliver the message to (ie non members).
If it was on our website then a journalist would have seen it and would have made a bigger issue out of it than what is necessary.

Probably. But at least it would have been more dignified and somewhat private (meaning initially only between Ed and the Collingwood members). Then if a journalist did make it public, it could have illicited an appropriate response once all of the passion and tension diffused.
