Hawthorn's precise short kicking between fullback to half forward could scythe through our press with ease given the quality of their pace (which enables such precise ball movement to break down a defensive zone)...

I'm salivating already.

The narrowness of Subi does counter-act the short kicking strategy though

They won't find as much space wing to wing as they would on the G

This has the makings of an epic!

Golf followed by BBQ and beers then get on with what promises to be a highly skilled matchup played at extreme intensity. Life doesn't get better.

All the best, may the best(and toughest) team win.

GF clubs for mine.

I'm an honorary weagles fan for the weekend.

Please absolutely rodger the mayblooms so they're w***er supporters crawl back in their hole for a couple of weeks. :thumbsu:

Should be a good game, very much looking forward to it.

Another classy handbagger.

Like how you use the word honor then display none:cool:

Schoey on franklin would be amazing, both great athletes, I would back schoey in a run but franklin is a little stronger.

I think Emac will take the deepest forward, franklin often runs up the ground a fair bit.

yeah clarkson`s use of buddy was interesting he spent a lot of time around the midfield and had roughead rucking .The fwd line was very open for the hawk little guys with only Hale the contesting tall.

I'll be crucified for this - but Rowan Jones is exactly the type of footballer that would be perfect for Franklin out of the middle. Strong, terrific runner and good overhead and happy to sacrifice his own game.

Clearly Jones wouldb't have been able to go with him as a defender full time, but as a midfielder who pushes forward - Jones was the perfect tagger to be able to handle the bigger midfielder/forward

IN: Glass OUT: Brown :thumbsu:
IN: Priddis OUT: Stevens :thumbsu:
IN: Rosa / Butler OUT: Kerr (inj) / Dalziell / Hams

The Glass and Priddis exchanges seem logical enough. Rosa for Hams could be considered left field. I agree with the previous posts berating Hams to a degree. Selfishness shouldnt be condoned like Hams did in the last qtr. He paid for that and Darling was right to give him a Richardsonesque spray from the square.

I also agree that nullifying the kicking efficiency of Suckling, Guerra, Birchall and when his in the backline WhiteX is pivotal. Here's where Paddy Mac / Adam Selwood enter as a defensive forward like Nicoski has played. The forward press will need to work well against the Hawks and isolate Schoenmakers (there tallest defender) with his direct opponent as much as we can.

Emac on Buddy pound for pound when he plays inside 50. Schofield be prepared to use his superior versatility to Mackenzie and run with him further up the ground.

Hopefully we can see the clearence specialists go head to head a bit -Priddis vs. Mitchell. Sewell or Lewis will give Priddis / Kerr close attention but

Looking forward to a cracker game. Fill subi up eagles and hawks fans. Dont want to see a spare seat left at Patersons

But they don't come across defensive pressure from forwards like we put on either. They won't be chipping the ball from one side of half back to the other with no pressure.

Darling, Hill, Kennedy, Waters and Naitanui all put on good pressure. Last week the Hawks just kept on dropping players back to get a free man in defense and if they want to flood we will accomodate them with a press. Crowd their backs and line up, Cox, Hurn and Waters across our half forward line and we will beat them.

The extra players we send forward to cover the loose man include McGinnity, S Selwood, Waters, Smith and Hams. Another reason for maybe Brennan to play as he adds good pace.

Saw it, loved it, well described. Agree with most stuff you said too...shout f****n loud West Coast fans going to the game, I wanna hear the passion that I feel and scream at the TV at home!

I see the match ups being somthing like this...

Roughead vs Lynch
Schoenmakers vs Kennedy
Stratton vs Darling
Gibson vs resting ruckman
Guerra vs Hams
Birchall vs ?

Franklin vs MacKenzie
Hale vs Glass
Gunston vs Schofield
Rioli vs A.Selwood
Lewis vs Waters

Mitchell vs S.Selwood
Whitecross vs Kerr
Shiels vs Shuey
Smith vs Gaff
Sewell vs Priddis

There is no doubt that both teams will try and stretch each other with their talls. Kennedy, Lynch, Darling, Natanui, Cox. With us having Hale, McCauley, Franklin, Gunston and Roughead. Best of luck it's going to be a good game.

Just on that, I know you mentioned stretching each side with the talls. Gibson vs the ruckman is 189cm vs 201cm (Nic Nat) or 203cm (Cox). That's a mismatch, even though I rate Gibson's effort and poise, 10cm is 10cm. Schoenmakers seems to be league whipping boy, but I rate him fine, that will be a solid matchup. If you throw Roughy down back, who goes forward? I know you're getting Hodge back, freeing up Lance for the forward line, but it seems recently you've been running with Breust and Hale as your go to guys up front.

Thoughts on how you'll manage defending Lynch/JK/Darling/Ruckamn whilst still having a tall forward line yourself?

I'm not certain Roughead will play in defense i was just suggesting thay he seems like an obvious match up for Lynch who is about the same size. McCauley might not even play, we might go with an extra running player, maybe a Hill or Bateman, which also means Roughead pinch hits in the ruck, but he could follow Cox or Natanui to the Eagles forward line. Roughead around the ground Roughead is very good. I'm confident we can do well in the ruck, Round 1 against Collingwood we won the hitout count 42-31, Round 2 against Geelong we won again 39-36, Round 3 against Adelaide again we won 41-34. Playing against Jolly, West and Jacobs and everybody thought that we would struggle yet we somehow managed to smash Collingwood in the clearences despite them having there whole midfield and we were minus Hodge and Shiels. Our rucks while not that great they can compete. Everyone talks about our ruckmens being average, they are more then servicable. That's an area i think we will do just fine in on Saturday. If you watch Hawthorn matches, you will see our midfield is one of the best at clearences. It's our Defense I'm really worried about. I got a feeling Kennedy will kick a bag. But if we somehow clog that back 6, for example Roughead loose man or something then we can fill the hole back there. Kennedy and Lynch are going to have a field day. But that's an area I think we will struggle come saturday night one way or another regardless which of our defenders go to who. If we win the midfield clearences and get enough inside 50 then we will win. I still don't expect us to win on saturday. Eagles by 4-5 goals. What's the weather on saturday by the way?

WC could only hope the Hawks are foolish enough to do this.

Buddy isn't an issue when he plays in the midfield, it's when he's plays in the forward 50 where he's hard to stop.

Roughead will start either Ruck or Defense, so I don't think Franklin will be in the midfield at all, especially given that Hodge will come back. Franklin, Gunston and Hale is our likely tall forwards on saturday night.

IN: Priddis, Rosa, Butler, Glass
OUT: Stevens, Dalziell, Smith, Brown

McGinnity was pretty poor too, but will most likely need to go to Rioli. Swift as #1 emergency.

Does anybody actually think that priddis and rosa are injured? I feel like woosha is just trying to mind game/try show respect to GWS. Massive losses if they are. Priddis is so crucial to our clearance work. We diddn't have a player get more than 3 clearances against GWS. Which is a little concerning.

More player management rather than showing respect. % will be very important in terms of making the top4 or even top 2 I don't think we care if we showed them respect or not.

If Priddis is injured and Kerr continues his form we are going to get absolutely flogged in the clearances. I have faith in guys like Shuey and Selwood to get 4-5 and maybee a couple more but its not going to be enough vs Mitchell,Lewis,Sewell,Burgoyne etc.

I'm more confident that naming the following 8 defenders
- Glass, Mackenzie, Schofield, Hurn, Waters, Smith, Butler, A. Selwood -
would be ok for our team structure than I have been before, for the following reasons:

- Scooter has stepped up, allowing A. Selwood to perhaps move back to a midfield tag to free him up a bit (+ Adam has been playing pretty well)
- Waters has been playing a little bit up forward (even if it is due to the ball being in our half)
- they made a special mention of Butler playing midfield in the WAFL report, meaning he could drift up a bit
- These 8 players are all better (IMO obviously) than other options such as McGinnity, Swift or Stevens.

Assuming everyone is fit, hopefully Butler comes in, with Butler or Smith put into the sub role. Despite his weaknesses, I think we are too tall not to have Hams up forward.
