Quite an impressive young footballer. Taken
Pick 11 by you lot a few years ago I believe.
Seems to be getting better and better, one that I watch more
closely.
Just out of curiosity, where do you see the young fella in ten years? What kind of footballing career will he have had realistically? Will he ever dominate games? Will he stay at collingwood forever? What do you guys think? Cheers

He's a star in the making, his disposal efficiency most weeks is through the roof, which is an under rated stat in today's football.

He has always performed in big games, as far back as the 2009 semi final versus Adelaide, but what he has lacked is a consistency in the home and away season, but this year it seems to be coming together.

We didn't give him number 22 for no reason, he'll be a pie for life, and would be the captain of the club eventually if not for Pendles.:)

Very very smart footballer.
10 years time, will be an A grade footy player, not sure who i can compare him to, not too quick but is very smart and a very dangerous forward.
He will always be with Collingwood.
Hes also a big game player, if youve watched closly (as you said that you have) you wouldve seen the last couple of finals campaigns hes always been in our best.
Hope he can be like Sam Mitchell to be honest:thumbsu:

Agree that past few seasons he only really performed in the Big Games but this season he has Pretty Much been good in all 4 Home and Away Games.

He is 1 if not the Best Finisher in the Comp and go along with has Sensational Use of the Ball.

I could see Steele at his best winning a Brownlow.

Hopefully sign a new long term deal soon:thumbsu:

lol.

LOL?

He was captain of several under aged sides growing up, and when recruited one of the reasons he was taken early was because he showed "leadership qualities", and he still has them now.

I'm not saying he'd be captain next year or the year after, but once the likes of Ball, Jolly, Maxwell etc are retired, he would be a captaincy candidate if Pendlebury wasn't around, THAT IS A FACT. He is so highly rated by those at the club that he will be part of the leadership group from next year on, bet on it.

he's the kind of player who is silky with the ball whenever he gets it, but throughout the game as other players tire, he'll keep going and start to stand out more.

and as mentioned above, he lifts for big games.

he'll be a club champion. 200+ game player, multiple premierships (i hope), multiple b&f's, AA, and if he keeps improving a brownlow isn't completely out of the question.

You would think he be in the Leadership Group in a few seasons

As soon as you wrote that I immediately thoght of Steve Johnson, very similair in also being able to not just kick but create goals.

Stevei J has also played very well on big stages

I haven't watched Steele that much but I put him in the category with Fyfe, Cotchin and co :thumbsu:

When his 26 he'll be regarded as one of the best players in our team and the league imo, already super good but lives in the shadow of pendles swan ect for the moment

Could not have said it any better. The kid is going to be very good (hate using the word champion)

Our third most important signing after cloke and Reid.

doesn't have the finish of stevie J, more of a hard running type who loves a goal and seems to find space easy.
definately a big game player, was probably our best performer if you put the two grannys together or equal with daisy.

is repressed.

I say he is as good as Finished as Stevie J but Stevie J does more the Freakish Stuff

I will bet on it Matty. I bet he won't be part of the leadership group from next year on. Let me know how much you want to put on it.

I don't necessarily see leadership as one of his strong points, although I only know what I see on the screen.

I think he will be a consistently good player for years to come, somewhat of a Shane O'Bree type (maybe slightly better) but never a superstar, and never an AA selection.

Should of won the norm smith in 2010.

He is starting to get that consistent ball winning ability into his game 20 plus per week. Excellent skill levels & can kick goals. Will be a future AA for sure.

Has all the tools, its in his own hands as Bucks will be telling him. You can be born with it all but without the application and desire to bring out your best it can all be wasted.

Steele Sidebottom is already a better player than O'Bree and has far more room for improvement than O'Bree. He has more depth and accuracy in his kicking. Don't know how you could make the comparison.

The player I've always hoped he could become like is Jimmy Bartel.

Really strong in the core, can use on both sides, brings his best in big games and big moments, one touch footballer.

The big differential I see between them in terms of skill is overhead marking. Steele is pretty easily buffeted off the ball, where Jimmy is a tank and takes numerous contested marks.

If Steele can improve his upper body strength while not getting any slower, and get that overhead marking into his game, he can progress into someone similar to Bartel.

Certainly not saying he's there at the moment - Jimmy's won the big 2 medals - but in 3-4 years this is where he needs to aim to be.

Yeah, I should have clarified - I meant in terms of level of contribution, not necessarily type of player. Steele does has more depth in his kicking than O'Bree, but still only average kicking depth at best. I have been one who is more conservative when it comes time to rate Sidebottom's kicking skills, but I certainly think he is a better kick than O'Bree.

Honestly, I just don't see superstardom from Steele, and I'm well aware that many others disagree. Comparing his level of output to an O'Bree type (or just a little better) is certainly no insult - O'Bree was a very good midfielder for us for a long time. Maybe somewhere between O'Bree and Licca.

I don't think he will become an AA player, and certainly don't think he will AA this year (as some have suggested in the other Steele Sidebottom post).

And I sincerely hope he makes me eat my words...

Lets not be in a hurry to label the kid one way or another just yet. He's an uncommonly calm and canny footballer for his age and he produces in tight spots and pressure cooker situations. As for his kicking depth, let us not forget the glowing praise that was heaped upon Bally when he first came - he could hardly kick over a jam tin at that stage.

Only the truly greats have the whole package, everyone has their achilles heels and strengths. I can see great possibilities for the kid, its a matter of application on his part and the luck of the footy gods for the rest.

O'Bree would not have gone near winning a Norm Smith Medal. He also would not kick as many goals as Steele.
