Some other game thoughts.

Clarke was outstanding on Stanton who has been one of the most in form midfielders in the competition. That he could go with Stanton all game shows just how good his endurance is, not that we didn't know it, coz Stanton is up there with the elite. It showed that he has plenty of grit too which people never give him credit for.

Dawes game was very encouraging. His first half was excellent courtesy of a faultless marking performance. Thats all he lacks. He has shown he can do it. Just not consistently. If can sort his shit out and take those marks on a consistent basis we are a much better side for it.

I'm priviliged to have watched this game. It was my kids first Anzac Day match. There was nowhere else in the world I'd rather be.

Kudos to the whole team for application. Positives only today so I'll mention Swan, Cloke, Sidebottom, Wellingham, & Harry for outstanding individual efforts.

Okay.

Dawes or Sinclair weren't THAT bad. Sure, neither of them hit the score board, but around the ground they were fantastic. Their pressure on the contest was top notch. At one stage there were 2 pies on 3 bombers, and because of Dawes, we won that contest.

Sinclair had the most tackles of the team, in case you'd like some evidence, he had 9. Now, that is pressure.

The players do things that are ignored by the stat sheet. Such as smothers, sheppards etc.

Seems people are divided on Sinclair's game, I tend to think both camps are right; his pressure was superb and his execution woeful.

Highlight for me was Browny's return, he was superb. I heard some knob on talkback this morning who didn't even know who Nathan Brown was... uh hello? His last game he pantsed Riewoldt and won a flag. If his name was Gilham or Jamison you'd never hear the end of it.

Sinclairs pressure was good, but for him to be a good player he also needs to kick goals and set up teammates... neither of which he can seem to do at the moment. U cant survive JUST by putting on pressure, u need to give something else. Just look at nicoski from wce, fairly similair. Great pressure but he ALSO KICKS GOALS, something sinclair is lacking

Such a gutsy win. Great games by Swan, Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Keefe, Johnson, Brown, Goldsack, Blair, Maxwell, Beams, Jolly and Cloke, and the rest did well. Really proud.

Congrats on today guys. Huge effort by both clubs one of the best games I have been to. Just wanted to comment on the respect both groups of supporters have shown. Stark difference to our rivalries with Carlton or hawks.

Congrats again good luck for the rest of the year

Dawes started to show a bit in my opinion. Was doing what a big man should, running straight and hard and busting tackles when the ball was in dispute. Was a shame his set shot and 50m took away from a good first half.

Swannie...ball on a string, great mark, great shark for a goal in that second half.

All the mids did well, however they should all be buying Jolly a drink for the superb work he did.

Swan was fantastic, Pendlebury was great. I think Clarke did a good job on Stanton for 3 qtrs. Keeffe continued his good form. Dawes was a real worry. I can't remember a single good thing he did. Sinclair was good but needs to finish and polish his disposal to be a good member of the team.

I didn't really think Jolly was that good - maybe my first glance was wrong, but he gave away a lot of frees. I quited liked Goldsack forward - if he got a bit of an extended run there I think he'd be good.

Its funny you say that because that is what Sinclair is surviving on. He obviously plays a role in the side and that is principally to provide defensive pressure in the forward half. In that objective he is succeeding admirably and its why he holds his position. The question is who can come into the side and perform that role (the defensive component) as well or better? and with that defensive component be better offensively? Realistically we don't have anyone at this point in time. Elliot has a big opportunity but realistically is probably a half season at least in the VFL away for pushing for that spot. At least I hope they give him that time.

Geez i was over wound for this game - felt the pressure of the need to win this big time.
Then as we rolled towards the last minute of the game i thought on no - not another '09 - phew thank the Lord it wasnt!

Excellent display from both Clubs - truly neither gave the game away - Bombers may have been beaten - but not bowed.

Now next year perhaps we can see both games as we build up to ANZAC day 2013 - to all our diggers past and present - we SALUTE YOU!

Just got home, wow, what a win, we counted down the last 20 seconds in our area, one of those truly great Collingwood moments.

That was a season defining win, we really didn't have much right to win it with the stars we had out, yet we controlled that game for large periods, and won the close game like good sides seem to do.

Swan lead from the front, and Sidey and Beams have taken that next step.

Nathan Brown, wow, what more can you say about this bloke, hasn't seen the MCG for 18 months and he plays like he did the last time he was there.

Loved some of the kids actions also, Ugle showed talent late, and Seedsman showed pace, and oh boy would we have a footballer if Sinclair could kick.

Epic win, one that sets us up to push for a top four spot now, a loss would have put us 3 games and percentage behind the Bombers, a win means we are only 4 points off them now.:)

Yeah you know what's better than 9 tackles? 5 tackles, a couple of goals, a couple of goal assists, and an opponent who has to pay you defensive attention.

Playing as an offensive tagger still bears some similarity to playing as a tagger in the midfield; if you can't hurt the opposition with your disposal, they can forget about you and just concentrate on getting the ball themselves. Bucks himself said these were his favourite kinds of taggers to play on... he didn't have to pay them any respect.

Sinclair was horrible. Only good thing was heppell was on him who didnt do much. Whats the point of a forward who cant kick simple goals

They stop talented footballers like Heppell influencing the game.

His surviving on that because of his age and the chance he will improve, he wont survive on that alone for long. If he cant start brining more things to the table his head will be on the chopping block sooner rather than later. He does have potential though, so its not all bad. Personally id give him 10 more non final games this year, and then most of next year and then make the call on his career.

It's a fair point I just don't see a replacement that will apply comparable defensive pressure. Young? I'd be loath to bring Elliot in too early.

Agree on Jolly but the Essendon rucks didn't dominate. Disagree on Dawes, he didn't have a great game but he showed a lot of toughness and application to the contest today :thumbsu:

Sinclair reminds me of a young Benny J everytime he goes near the ball he kicks it poorly. Personally at this stage I dont think he is in our best 22, however next year with a bit of development I think he will be.

I've been saying for a while that Marty Clarke could be our run with player, and today he proved he could do it.

Stanton, who had over 30 possessions against Carlton last week had 2 possessions to half time, and only had 13 for the match.

Marty is the man.:thumbsu:
