What a disgrace. Barker and Williams offering

- Scotland is just filling space right now.

OUT: Joseph, Duigan, Scotland, Russell, Garlett
IN: Mclean, Lucas, Collins, Yarran, Thornton

You've got to be kidding.Once again Scotland was one of our best. Yes his performance wasn't what we are used too, but there were plenty worse than him. Always puts in 110% and has the skills, i.e. that kick to Hampson late in the quarter.

Yarran, Thornton and Brock in for me. We are very, very, very, very lucky that Taylor Walker got rubbed out.

No point of talking about a Gibbs and Dangerfield trade unless the players wanted it.

Adelaide aren't dumb there's no way they will want it.

The question has been asked on the Main Board, are Carlton flag contenders? The simple answer, no. We are still 2-3 quality players short of contending.

I started a thread following the Essendon game that stated that we are not premiership threats. I completely stand by that thread and believe that it holds even truer now than what it did then.

We're truly the Bulldogs (circa 2009-10) of the AFL now. We're going to finish high up on the AFL ladder but come finals time we're still not in a position to seriously challenge for a flag. I understand how agonizingly close the Bulldogs came to playing in the 2009 AFL Grand Final but do you think that they would have come as close to the Cats as what the Saints did on that day? No way. Too many deficiencies that would have been shown up to the point where it would have been Geelong Vs Port Adelaide all over again.

Our most important players aside from our two stud young rucks are some of the most unaccountable footballers in the league. Judd may get his high disposal numbers but never again will I judge how good a game he has played by those stats (nor have I in the past but his stats paint a different picture to what actually impacted on the game).

On a different tone... One thing that I noticed tonight and I noticed it in the Essendon match as well was the absence of Bret Thornton. When we were struggling to get it past our half forward line I wondered where that missing link in the chain was and realized that it was Thornton. He may be more vital to the makeup of this team than we give him credit for. I'm not sure that we win tonight's game with him in the lineup but I do believe that we missed him.

Another played that we really missed is Chris Yarran. We haven't been the same team since he got injured. People suggest that he is an unaccountable footballer but I believe he's the type of player that makes the system run just that much smoother. I cannot wait until he gets back into the team.

Brett Ratten.... To take the next step as an AFL coach he absolutely must be able to think on his feet. He needs to be able to come up with dynamic secondary plans if the primary plan is not working which was clearly the case tonight. He almost more than any other coach in he AFL preaches to the media the importance of having versatile players and he's spot on. However, he is unwilling to switch it up. Two key forwards were not working for us tonight so he sticks with that the entire game. How about switching Judd into the forward line with Betts and Garlett on the half forward line, switching Waite down back filling the space.

We need to be tougher, we need to be more accountable but most of all we need to stop being so arrogant. Coincidentally the last time that I can remember Carlton being so prevalent in the media throughout the week leading into the game was the game against Essendon. This week we had numerous players making serious media commitments (Murphy on TFS for one and even Kernahan being on 7 News the night of the game). Commitment, focus, determination and aggression towards the football is the recipe for success and we need to key in on those.

Not a premiership threat but we can be. Still a long way from September. We absolutely need to finish top four but results like tonight (and the Essendon game) could come back to haunt us. Need to win 3 of that 4 game stretch mid-season now to make up for it.

Not trying to take over your thread but we were glad to see the back of Barker. It's no surprise that our forward line started functioning better right after he left and Buddy started looking dangerous again.

This this this. Barker took the talented Saints 2007 forward to dysfunction, then managed to turn the Hawks 2008 premiership winning forward line into a shambles for 2009/2010. Certainly doesn't have too many runs on the board, and hasn't had a coaching contract renewed once in his career.

It was a pretty weak performance... but I want to know how the umpires can justify giving holding the man decisions to the Aints players, then when the Carlton players are held in exactly the same way... it's play on.

I am also curious about the free kick against Jamo on the back flank position where he was in front, was getting held, pulled back from getting to the ball and then had a very soft free kick paid against him? Yes, there was a slight push to the aints player's abdomen region... but FFS, Jamo must have through he had just been given a right royal feel up leading up to the ball going out.

Yes, the stats will show that the free kicks were probably even... but there was no consistency in the umpiring.

Yes, we were found wanting... our skill levels were right down but the umpiring didnt exactly help us out much.

Ah, no doubt we'll string a few wins together against weaker sides who cant be bothered tackling so we'll outrun them. Jeff and Eddie will bob up and kick a few and before you know it we'll be flag favorites again. We'll believe the hype...and the cycle will continue.

playing murphy forward was not a good move. for 5 minutes maybe, but what a waste.

loose man back is going to have absolutely no effect if the ball is going to someone like joseph. loose man back, 1 less around the ball just like essendon.

you just can't butcher the ball going forward AND be floating around the middle of the ground. if you're going to shank it at least find someone so they can't waltz out.

Maybe a Gibbs for Watts trade. Wouldn't really be an upgrade. Both all the skills in the world with pea hearts.

Hey guys sorry to intrude I had a question for you. Are you guys in a intense block of training? I kno we were for the first few rounds of this season and we looked flat. You guys looked a bit flat and disinterested tonight I thought that might be a reason?

Garlett - MIA - needs a run in the VFL where he wont be gifted any goals and will need to earn his spot in our team - way too comfortable
Armfield - was he even playing tonight?
Joseph - just completely butchered every chance - im usually quick to his defence, but tonight just wasnt his night
Curnow - sloppy, slow and scared - he hasnt been the same since he hurt himself against the saints last year
Rusty - refer to Joseph - only marginally better
Waite was average, Simpson got shut down, Eddie didnt provide the spark he usually did.

Happy with performances from Hammer, Ellard....too be honest im struggling here.

I dont know what the answer is - McClean isnt a fix, neither is Bret "always stopping and kicking backwards" Thornton.

Yarran back in next week for Joseph, Ellard to play the whole game. Give Bottsma another run - possibly for Russell. McClean for Curnow.

Whats the deal with Collins? His shoulder gotten any better?

Im no coach but come on, if the team is getting beat for 3 quarters under the same structure you gotta change it up. We always get beaten by the small forwards its so frustrating. Our 2nd tier players in Joseph Russell, Touhy and Duigan were dissapointing tonight.

Should of kept Setanta, at least he crashed into packs and had a red hot dip.

our 2 best were the 2 blokes who listened to the coach put in the effort and did their job
ellard and army did not win the poss count but were our stand outs
effort
discipline
and u call for brock
ffs

Disappointing effort... Team just seems to lack the spark needed to win... Why can some players just not watch their man when it is needed!

No accountability is our worst enemy... The amount of times players sitting in open space with no man was amazing.

Great sub in Ellard, Definitely in for a full game last week, brilliant effort by him (Also have to give army a rap again lol Kept Dal santo to 11 possies to 3 quarter time then moved off him and somehow dal santo gathers another 10 possies in the 4th quarter?... Accountability again?)

We missed Bootsma.

Seriously Collins has to be a chance. Garlett needs a break. Im not sure Duigan gives us anything like Thornton AT THIS TIME. And I hate toi admit it, but if mclean is going to be the under the pack guy then he needs a few weeks in the team to put it together.

I know we're going bad, but Collins .. are we that bad?

Garlett, I agree, but won't be dropped.
Armfield, did his job for 3 quarters.
Joseph, hack. Never again.
Curnow, see Joseph.
Russell, lost all form, had the world at his feet 2 seasons ago, will struggle to get a new deal on current form.
Waite. Shocking, maybe he needs a rest?

We need to go from hunted to hunters ...how get bigger and stronger...we concede too easily...sorry Murphy but u can't go and hide in the forwrd line after half time because you are getting tagged...I just ask one question ..if ratten left tommorrow would we be in a better or worse position ??
