Really stoked to get the win. I felt that if we let that one slip, it would be the psychological equivalent to a kick in the jewels. They came hard, we held out well and we got the 4 points.. so im happy

Sidey and Beams were both great tonight, but Steele in particular i thought was really really good. Has been playing well all season.

I know a win can gloss over some of the errors and deficiencies, but my word was Harry bad tonight. Defensively he has been shocking all season imo. i have no idea whats going on with him, whether hes been asked to play a different role or anything like that.. but hes got to be accountable for his man. At least 3 goals against him tonight that i counted and his influence, for me, was minimal if at all.

Probably the worst umpired game id seen in a while too.

Losing Reid and Swan sucks the big one. on the other side, the crows will miss walker (with lynch to be the likely inclusion) and Keefe will be a good match for Tippet. If Taz has a good comeback tomorrow, do we consider bringing him in?

Swan is minor. Back for the Demons.
Bugger that, it's time for Swanny's mid season break, I hope we don't see him again till the Eagles match after the bye, let him recover fully and get some good training into the body, and he'll fly home like he did last year.

And we have to not even consider playing Reid till after the bye, and even then he may need to come back through the VFL for half a match, like Taz is doing, that quad is a massive concern now.

Pendles may not play next week, it's a matter whether there is bleeding in the calf or not, if there is he may miss one match, otherwise he'll be right to go.

Can we have a game without getting injuries?

Have we ever had a full backline this year?

Oh, and by the way, the sub rule almost ruined a game of football there, and almost cost a $100 million a year turnover club a loss.

Didak was sitting there in a red vest, able to play while he had two injured players sitting beside him who couldn't come back on.

The rule needs to be changed so that if you use the sub for tactical reasons, then you suffer a injury the substituted player can come back on for an injured player.

It's a stupid rule, made worse by the intensity of our game.:thumbsd:

and Made by Idiots who run the AFL:mad:

Agreed, the sub rule still annoys me.

Great fight from the boys to get over the line. Loving Steele's form, he looks comfortable anywhere on the ground and can get out of a tight spot smoothly. Most of the team can work well in confined spaces, particularly along the boundary (even as the gameplan changes ever slowly this will help us).

Heeps of positives plus 2 x 4 week injuries, the good with the bad, making the win hard to really enjoy once Reid and Swan's injuries came to light. We probably missed a KPB like Brown or Tarrant tonight as Keeffe looked vulnerable to the bulk of Podsiadly.

There were some players who seemed exposed a bit tonight. O'Brien was too loose in defence and was such a liability in the first half that Buckley seemed almost preferable to swap for him. And Sinclair looked out of his depth, having problems making himself counted due to his lack of size and awareness. Obviously Didak was subbed for fitness reasons because Sinclair seemed our weakest player.

Several players stepped up a level, including Sidebottom, Goldsack, Beams and Fasolo who played with great energy and courage. Fasolo had a breakout game and was incredibly impressive in kicking 3.2 and putting his body on the line. I didn't win my bet on Goldsack but he justified my faith in his ability to kick goals. I have a Geelong mate who 'doesn't rate Goldsack' who I look forward to reminding of his comment from last year.

Wellingham set us alight when he appeared to follow the ball rather than play forward. Maxwell on Johnson seemed to work as a match up, but if Clarke was tagging he seemed low on impacting the game.

Dawes marked overhead but Cloke seems to be either Taylor or Lonegan's bitch each time we play Geelong.

Reid, Brown and Tarrant are all susceptible to injury, and the likelihood of us having the embaressment of one too many talls is very unlikely this year. We could have used Brown tonight.

This was a great win but came at a price that may cost us a win against Adelaide if Pendles has to miss and Tarrant needs more time at VFL level.

Beams was BOG in the first half. It's nice to see him sticking it up all the doubters after he had one poor injury impacted showing last year. It also shows what he can do when he's actually played as a midfielder instead of a flanker.

I also don't get the criticisms of Nathan Buckley as coach from the vocal minority. Some of his changes have been great. Goldsack has worked so far as a forward, Beams has benifited from being a full time mid, Sidebottom is relishing not being pinned to the forward fifty, etc. The gameplan needs a little work but it's not easy to change the way a side has played for six years in a six month period.

We could possibly be even worse off in the injury dept this week. Fasolo did something to his arm, you could see him in pain on the ground.

You've gotta pay Fasolo for that effort. Went in hard against a much bigger body in Stevey J and came off second best as expected.

If Swan, Ried, etc, can't get up next week, so be it. If it's a loss, it should be a loss with those players out because they are recovering for our difficult draw after the bye. We can afford the loss to Adelaide, you'd think, because after that we've got a relatively easy run until the bye. Maybe not afford it, but cop it if it means we'll get players back fit after the bye.

After the bye, s##t hits the fan. It's the toughest part of our draw (luckily it's all at the G).

That said, we played Geelong Friday night and Adelaide play Sunday. The extra days may give us an advantage and Walker (current leading goal scorer in the comp) is out.

I say, rest who needs to be rested next week. I expect to lose with players out, but if we pull off a win, with fresh players after two days extra rest, it's a bonus.

How good was it to see Chris Scott lose his shit?

It meant 2 things. This game meant so much to them and he thinks they may be done.

Yeah i actually meant opposition kick ins. Too many beers. Still, what a great win. You could tell by Scott's press conference that this meant a lot to them.
TBone
Mate they were full on serious tonight to a man their players looked shattered after losing and you only had to look at Scott,s face to know how he felt, they set themselves for this match it is a big loss for them.

So with Reid out, does Paine come back in and Goldy goes back?

Would be nice to be able to bring in Kris Pendlebury

Thank Christ for the rapid development of Lachy Keefe

Ideally, we just need Tarrant to get through the VFL today and be fit enough to play next week.

Otherwise perhaps Goldy or Maxwell to be the second KPB.

Lucky for us Walker is out.

Too true. It's beyond moronic.

Very happy with the result. The cats are such a good side, this means heaps.

Harry and Heater were below their best today. The last quarter was agonizing.

Gutsy gutsy win , not supposed to win those games , no bench and no momentum . To kick two goals against the run of play late is what the cats did for years , good signs besides the injurios .

good win, id like to get through a week without an injury though... its starting to really annoy me

I know that wasn't even close to revenge for the grand final but I think the win was really important for us mentally. They were the only team to beat us last year and I think it would have extended their mental edge if they had of made it four from four.

Really proud of how the boys kept going in the fourth. Pendles' said the boys were trying to get off on the fourth but kept getting sent back on. It was really tough. He also noted that in a quick midfield meeting it felt as though they were playing waiting for Geelong to catch up. They needed to win the game, which they did. No surprise he kicked the winning goal. Also said that Steele always has that little bit left to give. He's a freak.

Injuries will hurt us. Swan is only a minor hamstring but we need him fit for the right part of the year. Reid - I don't know. I've got some cotton wool if the club want to wrap him in it. Injuries are killing me though. We get one back and we lose one. Frustrating as all hell.

What did everyone think about didaks game? I thought he did alright but they were bagging him on triple m?

Didak was great last night. His delivery and class in the forward line was really important. I think he benefitted from Wellinghams presence. Wellingham is a clever player and gave Didak someone to play off. Wellingham wins his contest more often than not and more often than not was dishing off to Didak in space. Thats a really dangerous combo for us. If we could replace Sinclair with a more dangerous goal threat and get Cloke into form I think our forward line would really click into another level.

Your kidding me . Heater below his best? Sure he made a couple of mistakes but thats Heater, he is a high risk player so makes mistakes. He was terrific last night and on so many occassions when they looked like scoring he was in the right place at the right time. I had him just behind Pendles and Sidebottom in our top 3.
