Will Essendon win the Flag ?

I don't think we'll win the flag, but we've played pretty well against the pies, eagles, and blues. Not sure our ticker is that poor.

Maybe a soft ticker is a bit harsh, but it was either that or complacency. The Tiges shouldn't have got anywhere near you let alone outscore you in just about every facet in that second half. Hence my thinking you are not quite there just yet, but pretty close. If not this year, definitely next.

We definitely have some work to do, but people need to give credit where credit is due. The tigers were very brave tonight and if there is one team you do not want to give a sniff (particularly at the G), it's Richmond.

I agree, we're not there yet. We have managed to win well, and win ugly, but we haven't made the finals, nor won one yet, and as you said we should've shut the game out by half time. But the Tigers showed there own strong ticker by ramming open the door when we didn't slam it shut.

I'm just rapt we're thereabouts - that's good enough for me at the moment. Bombers, Blues and Pies are up there - an awesome competition it will be when we finally extract the digit, and I'm not sure we're that far off it as well. One more defender and get that forward line working properly and we'll be there. Good times ahead for the Big 4 methinks!

Uhm, Essendon did actually win the game. It seems strange to say they blew it.

If they had have kicked straight the result might have been different. We didn't kick straight so we'll never know!
You did what you had to do and that's all that matters

yeah, had me confused. I would have thought that richmond blew it when they hit the front and had all the momentum but let essendon pile on three goals.

Uh, we had our fair share of behinds too. 12 to be exact.

Blazing away at every opportunity doesn't make you "good". We could have done what you guys did and just kept spraying it at every chance, but we steadied it up in the end and focused on sealing the win.

I'm sorry but Essendon supporters have given you guys some respect for the game, it's high time you give credit where credit is due.

We looked out of it in the 3rd, but we did enough to not only come back in front but win by 19 as well. That's a good win any good side's books.

We aren't going to win the flag, but we earned that win and did it like a side going places. 7-1 now. Deal with it.

will essendon win the flag?

going by the fact that Essendon would have lost tonight had Richmond kicked straight for goal, then i would say no, Essendon will not win the flag.

the bombers looked very good in the first half. us tiger fans will bemoan some of the umpiring decisions but there is no doubt that essendon was the better side in the 1st half and did look grand final material. But unless you think that richmond are a premiership contender then i cant see essendon being one given that the only difference between the two sides by the end of the game was kicking for goal

and yes bomber fans... good kicking for goal is good footy and bad kicking for goal is bad footy so congratulations to you on the win but i dont think you should get too carried away unless you really rate the tigers as one of the tops sides in the comp

Nobody said you didn't earn it - but we did blow it and you nearly did too. Hence my lack of respect for you winning the flag, which is what this is all about. You also went well last year till you played us and lost the plot after that. Early days to be considering Essendon for a flag
But good luck to you, you won and that's all that matters.

7-1 with a lovely percentage and GWS & Melbourne to come in the next two weeks.

The failure which many opposition hoped for is just not going to eventuate.

Make no mistake the Tigers have given us PLENTY of grief over the last few years and have significantly improved themselves this year (narrow losses to Geelong in Geelong & West Coast included) but for us to get headed and then pull away again was a significant statement. We notoriously don't perform as well at the MCG either, but tonight was pretty good for the most part.

I still doubt we'll win the flag (as the topic suggests) but we should certainly be finalists and give it some sort of crack.

I think you are seriously underrating Richmond. If it wasn't for 2 misses, they would have beaten West Coast and didn't you guys have more scoring shots against Collingwood? Not to mention Geelong at Simmonds stadium. That said, I don't think we can win the flag. I think we will be burned out by the end of the year. I can see us contending either next year or in 2-3 years.

We will *potentially be able to rest players before finals given our good start to the year.

Essendons second half today was the worse perform dons Ive seen since the Gold Coast game.

Shocking from the dons, good thing we get some of our best 22 back from injuries.

Its not that Richmond was good, we were just shit in the second half. You can tell, by the amount we missed no pressure kicks.
