It's pretty ridiculous of Channel 7. Whenever there's a dubious decision against us, they show him. Whenever it's not looking good for the Pies, they show Joffa being sad. It's a disgrace really but it feeds the haters and that's why the do it.

I just hope for Channel 7's and this guy's sake (and those in here bagging him) that he doesn't have some sort of disability or intellectual disorder which explains his actions. Who knows, he may even have turrets and the footy is his only outlet for it.

PS. OP get me a picture of him and you'll have your meme.

My take on this one is thats its Ch7 who decides what reaches our screens. The individuals and there behaviour is a different matter.

They certainly do 'rally' supporters close to the fence to produce those very fake and cheesy shots..to me they add nothing to the broadcast, their arguement is that it provides atmosphere and colour.

My pet hate on Ch7 broadcasts is when they cut away to crowds, at conclusion of games or at breaks when all you want to see is the player reactions. If old team mates seek each ohter out for an embrace or handshake, if brathers cross paths etc etc. This is never more evident in their Australian Open broadcasts, at the end of a long hard match, as the players walk to the net, they invariably cross to the crowd applauding when ALL YOU WANT TO SEE is the players reaction in those few seconds they have at the net. Annoys the hell out of me..

The Media are only interested in the things that get attention. Preferably negative images of passion & 'footy behavior'
Also B Taylor is just so sarcastic with his comments about just about anything or anyone he can get his hooks into. Its all funny to a point but sometimes you just want to concentrate on the footy, not listen to bigheads being smartarses with a microphone. Some of them should look in a mirror. BT especially, he was a good player but was an embarrassment with some of his own behaviors.

I see it and it reminds me of footy.
The footy was like this in the 70's now it's just on telly more...in focus and in color.

Anyone who gets upset with the classic "Collingwood supporter" typecasting needs to remember who they support.

In 49 years I cannot remember a time when the toothless, illiterate bogan was not the media archetype of a Collingwood supporter.

Was there such a time?
Is there anyone old enough to remember?

Yes PE dad told me of Vic Park days in the '30's when opposition players trudged reluctantly onto the ground to face 'THE MACHINE' and opposition supporters huddled fearfully together.

This is the basis of Collihate, the days when the Pies were a fearsome and totally awe inspiring machine - and the players were worse!

Nope, we have always had the stereotype of the "lower class" supporter base, and it actually goes way back to when we were first formed and what the suburb of Collingwood was like.

Collingwood was the roughest suburb in Melbourne, as the rich used to say it was "Melbourne's sewer", and it literally was because all the filth would run down hill to the suburb of Collingwood in those days, thus the poorest and unemployed lived in the suburb of Collingwood as it was simply cheap to live there.

That stereotype of the Magpie Army being full of unemployed, toothless bums hasn't changed since late in the 19th century, and I hope for one it never does, even if our supporter base has improved in many demographic areas since then.:)

No doubt terrorised by the toothless hoard.:)

Even the players were known to 'step lightly' at times - oppo players that is

Umpires had been know to have panic attacks when they paid a free against the pies on the members side - yes it did happen occasionally - and the toothless horde made their displeasure known in no uncertain terms.

I've noticed him more & more as the season has gone on. I pointed him out on the TV to couple of Collingwood supporting friends when you played the Bulldogs but, as this was a rare occasion that they didn't go, they thought I was just pointing out some random bloke & I was picking on Collingwood fans as a whole. I'm glad Robbo pointed him out because I thought I might've been the only person who noticed him. I could be wrong but I think theres every chance that he'd be enjoying the attention & is getting sillier & sillier each week. He seems to be becoming Joffa MK2.

Does anyone remeber the North Melbourne woman from the 90's when they were up & about? She made Joffa seem camera shy with her posing & carrying on. She hasn't been shown for years on the TV, maybe she toned it down because in the end she just looked stupid.

aw geez, i love this guy.

Yes, I agree the swearing and carrying on in front of kids isn't good but haven't we all got a bit soft these days??

Didn't Victoria Park have 20,000 just like him in the old days??

I remember a game at VicPark, can't remember which one.... maybe the early 80s and the umps killed us and we lost by a small margin and people actually threw stuff at the umps as they tried to get off the ground.... ah memories ;)

Probably no longer with us, about to be joined by her club.

Channel 7 picked this guy as a go-to person for when they wanted a passionate fan reaction to whatever action had just occurred.

Tbh, I didn't mind the guy early on, that's the stereotype that will never change and we probably don't want it to anyway.

But now the guy has become Joffa Mk 2 it does sometimes look more theatrical than natural, which occasionally gives a slightly awkward feel to it all.

Hope the cameras allow him to be natural and do more wide screen shots to gauge more the overall fan reaction.

In a similar vein, I hate when they use super slo-mo to show something you can see perfectly well at normal speed. Really, do we need a slo-mo of a fist pump or a high five?

Use slo-mo for stuff that happens really quickly, like the muscles straining during a tennis shot, or the cricket bat bowing on contact with the leather ball... stuff we can't already bloody see with the naked eye!

Biggest waste of coverage TRS is the overblown replays of some trivial b/s that one or other of the trained monkeys with mikes thinks is important while the ball is travelling downfield for the goals :mad::mad:

Haha,

Round 1 this year i went to sit down at my seat and went to M32 instead of M30 by mistake and thought "don't tell me i am right in the middle of the cheer squad" this bloke you are talking about introduced himself and i was left thinking am i going to be stuck next to this guy for all our home games!

I realised after looking again at my membership i was in the same row same seat but two bays over and i was that relieved, by the way i dont think this guy is all there, he cant walk properly, i think he has cerebal palsy, he is mental seriously.

That is my take on him, looks to have a disability of some sort.

I stood behind the cheer squad for 18 months. None of this is theatrical. He really is that mental
+1 Is standard fare week in week out. Doesn't matter if we're 10 goals uo or 10 goals down. Is like a bipolar everready bunny on GBH who's had his carrots nicked.

I sit down that end....and to be honest the blokes that stand at the back are a better cheer squad than the official one. They have some fantastic chants and funny stuff. :thumbsu:

Manson's Haircut and I met a few of those blokes at the Yarra pub after a VFL game few weeks back.

Barnesy and Steve - they were great guys, extremely knowledgeable and entertaining and had chants and songs for every player.

They hang out in the standing room at the back of M32 I think.
Black and white through and through
