The bloke Clarke got 5 weeks suspension, barged into the umps room afterwards and did not hold back after being told by his own blokes to "pull up". Umps arent great but dont deserve this ..I saw him a few weeks back and he struggles - in his defence though Mordi are teribble off field as well no support..

Do the umpires at the game get a 5 week suspension as well for not doing there job properly? Disgraceful decision.

Just be thankful that we have people that are getting out there and having a go, umpires are harder and harder to come by and it's events like these that make umpiring less appealing.

Even if the umpires were terrible (which happens), the coach had no right to confront them and get stuck in. Yeah we all get frustrated but sometimes you have to pick the right time and place to voice your frustration.

The thing is, there doesn't seem to be a right time or place. As a coach and as a captain, I've been told many times to "Go away" when asking calmly for a clarification on a decision. Has happened to other leaders I've spoken to about it as well. Maybe a situation could be diffused quickly if the "gents" in orange would actually be open to some dialogue.

Agree with what you are saying but if there isn't a right time or place that need to be brought to leagues attention rather than confronting umpires in an abusive manner.

The umpires don't do themselves any favours if they don't allow any adult discussion to clarify decisions etc.

I know of a club official that received a $2000.00 fine suspended for 2 years for asking an umpire at half time whether a player could return to the field. The player was reported twice in 30 seconds, once for striking and once for abusive language but it was not clear whether there were 1 or 2 reports. The umpires response to the question was "I cannot discuss it" There was no request for a discussion just clarification as if the player returned to the field the team could lose its score.. The offical took that action because the team manager (the only one allowed into the rooms) was over refreshed at the time and somewhat volatile. The situation could have been diffused with a simple "No". In his evidence the umpire confirmed there was no abusive, threatening or foul language. Adult conversation? Hardly! Now you know how the red, yellow and green card system came about!

This might sound like a cliche, but umpires make mistakes on a Saturdays but I can own up to saying I probably make more playing the game.

If I was an elite footballer I'd be playing AFL/VFL, but I'm not, same goes for the umps

Wow the fine was big how long ago??
1998. Under the by laws only the team manager can enter the umpires rooms. There was no abuse or threat. The first question was "Can the player come back on?" Response as previously listed. "Well we need to know" "Can't discuss it" This went on for a few minutes with no clarification forthcoming. "Was there one or 2 reports?" Can't discuss it" Do you understand our dilemma here? We need to know" "There were 2 reports" "Thank you" reported twice and you're off for the day, and for that $2,000.00 fine suspended for 2 years. Legal action was pursued but the official declined to take it further on the basis that SFL member clubs would ultimately have to foot the bill

Should have been a slap on the wrist and a finger wagging

Andy Clarke has tried on numerous occasions to contact the umpires boss to discuss his players safety after he has had several players concussed in several different incidents (latest where a mordi young kid was king hit at the back off a boundry throw in against Clayton on the weekend no free kick) he then sent his captain over at the end of the quarter to ask a few questions the umpires advised him to chat with them in there rooms after the game!!! Andy Clarke headed in there to ask a few questions they replied with we can not talk to you andy left the room then once on his way back to the changerooms he said 'this is ****ed we cant talk to them' no verbal altercation occured towards the umpires!!!!]

Andy Clarke was finally awarded his meeting with the umpires boss only after his article in the local paper was published he attended the meeting the umpires boss asked him "what are you here for??" he replied with "to discuss the safety of my players" the umpires boss replied with "NO your here to get your ass kicked"

Andy Clarke was then handed a 5 week suspension!!!!

that is fact and this competition is a joke on the back of behavior like that!!!!

Bird that is amazing but wasnt the meeting with the SFL Executive which the umpires are not part of.. Maybe Clarkey should pack his bags and turn off the light at Mordialloc, they are shot .... I wonder if he decides toaddress the players during the game he might get what the Doveton club and ex coach Gibson got in 2010 - suspended for the rest of the year!!

the Executive was at the meeting along with the umpires boss who had a lot to say!! the competition has also put a ban on Andy Clarke addressing his players over the fence so he will have no part as a coach!!! relegation is defiantly odds on!!!

Cheltenham way to good for Highett 6 goals
CH to clean up City 5 goals
Dingley to towel Heatherton 7 goals
EB in a tight one in the wet over Clayton 12 points
St.Pauls in a canter even missing plenty over Mordi 6 goals

On a dry deck you could probably double all margins

Why doesn't it surprise me that this happened against Clayton? They wouldn't hit young blokes off the ball?
