Sure, but he's been playing deep in D for much of the year, and they won by 70 odd points.

It's easy to be critical but for all we know he might have done a stellar job on the FF.

EDIT - He kicked a goal apparently, so who knows haha. Was anybody there?
Papertalk was actually playing as a permanent forward but had no influence whatsoever!

190cm is correct for McGovern. Someone posted a pic of him next to a measuring device and if anything he looked a touch under.

Anyone seen the Tigers live lately? How does Weedon look down back? I daresay he never looked 100% comfortable in the forward line, so I am interested in this development. Lots of similar types have been moved into defence over the past few years and done well, Yarran being the obvious success story.

Reckon we'll delist him? Worth another preseason?
From the few games I've seen of him down back he's looked good. Contested harder, looks composed with ball in hand. His best role is as an inside mid IMO but hasn't developed the stamina yet. I daresay he won't be delisted, as I think at least 2 players will be traded and probably Strijk and Dalziell on the chopping block ahead of him. All depends on how his training attitude and development are assessed at the end of the year.

I would love to know which two players you think will be traded :)

have the 2012 team poster on my fridge , Mcgovern standing next to M Brown who is listed at 195cm , they look very much the same height... Brennan at 188cm on the other side of him is very much smaller.... cant quite work it out , but definitely think he is taller than 190

Either way, it was a very silly thing to post and deserved to be called out. I swear, McGovern must have half his family or schoolmates on here or something.

While EH certainly can be obnoxious ;), I don't think there was too much wrong with what he said.

He just made the case that McGovern should be elevated, because he has talent and is a strong contested mark. Darling is playing as our main KPF at the moment and for a tall forward he is a relatively average contested mark (but by no means poor). It is his other strengths that make him an amazing young footballer, while contested marking appears to be one of McGovern's main strengths.

I don't think EH was suggesting In: McGovern Out: Darling, if he was, then well yes, that would be silly.

that line is 200, not 190.

hair touches 200, so i'm guessing he's around 198-197

Weedon? Perhaps his best role could be served as the next Janitor, the mop man himself Wirra?

That's what I'm hoping, but we don't really have room there unless he plays on the small forwards like Butler, A selwood, and Smith have done in the past. We have lacked a good small defender for a while IMO, but he's probably not got the agility or acceleration? (Not that many of our alternatives do).

Yes you appear to be correct. However, it is possible that is wearing shoes that exaggerate his height by an inch or so. If that is his real height then I am impressed.

Has good skills and composure and I'd like to see him as an inside mid. Graham Jetta was the one who could have served that role, is agile and quick initial burst and we could have picked him up in the rookie draft the past few years, probably deserved to be picked up in the last couple.

McGovern looks KPP height to me, there is a lot of pedantic argument going on about measuring devices, shoes on, shoes off, hair length etc, none of that really matters.......;)

Receding, Swannies? ;)

Agree about G Jetta, is it too late? We could have been well served by Jettas via the rookie list over the years :(

Darling is a second year player and is getting the No.1 defender every week now. He is still managing to contest usually against two or more opponents who are often bigger and far more seasoned than he is. Mcgovern is playing WAFL against ammos.

Sweet jesus people on this board are mind mindbogglingly stupid at times.

You know the funny thing is that such claims have been made by people from inside Westcoast and from what I’ve seen id tend to agree. Darling is physically well developed for his age and has been for a long while now, so the fact he's the same age as McGovern isn't at all important.

I'm not knocking Darling at all, his football IQ is enormous and he still has plenty of improvement left. McGovern is totally raw, undeveloped and untested. But if I was looking at the core strengths of them as footballers and measuring them id say McGovern is the better mark, he need not play an AFL game and id been ok in saying that. Of course if we played McGovern now he would struggle to have Darlings impact, that goes without saying and im not sure why it needs to be mentioned.

Spaceclef is right, it does have a romantic aspect. Our recruiters and development staff would deserve massive credit if they turn McGovern into a serious AFL footballer.

But I certainly do get kicks out of your base logic though. :thumbsu:

Clearly.

I figured that, but i don't get it. i assume he was picked up by Melbourne outside of the rookie draft?

Yep, in fact if memory serves none of the Jetta's in the AFL currently have been picked up via the rookie draft

Anyway my point is just because they've got a last name of Jetta doesn't mean they can cut it at AFL level
