Reid it and weep, Travis

I cant believe the pies would be willing to risk loosing reid to keep cloke, I know it's just an opinion but I see reid as far more important to the pies than cloke at the moment, sure they are both out of form but i think reids long term prospects are better whereas im unsure how long cloke can sustain being a top line centre half forward before the wear and tear on his body limits his output.

Draft picks are a lottery (even early ones), and while the pick was used on Jetta which has turned out very well for us we sent you an All Australian and Premiership ruckman that was the missing piece to your next Premiership side.

I'd say on face value that was a virtually guaranteed Premiership with Jolly in your side.

So yes, you still owe us ;)
You make you own luck buddy. No such thing as a lottery if you have the right people.
Our record is quite good. In Hine we trust.

An attempted humorous analogy in a completely unrelated situation.

It's not cool dude, if you think it is, well fine by you, but I, personally, don't think that such a traumatic event in someone's life should be made light of. In particular when the incident is so recent.

Also last thing I'll post on it for keeping the thread on track's sake

That's cool.

Now explain why you liked said post?

Seems you copped a little bit of stick for this, lets change it to, "Carlton needs to hit trade week like someone should hit Chris Brown, or Kyle Sandilands"

This I can get behind

You recon he's worth 5 yrs at more than 750 a yr?

I'll admit to not watching many non-Essendon games. However if 3 other clubs are offering him better money then it would appear Collingwood are low-balling him.

Collingwood had offered Cloke more than he's worth and it still wasn't enough. He should have jumped at the 4 year deal and enjoyed winning a flag or 2 during that contract, as well as any bonuses.

Clubs bounce around the ladder every year. Cloke appears to have not fallen for Collingwood's attempts to play the "Do it for the team/future premierships!!!" card.

Because they are over sensitive, politically correct people who like to take the higher moral ground against stangers on internet forums.

OK cool. Joking about domestic violence is ok. Got it.

Seriously, the anonymity provided by a computer screen shouldn't permit you to disavow all morals. What happened was wrong, it hurt a person and worse that hurt has been made very public.

I think that people are not joking about the act itself.

It's the sense of "taboo" that makes it funny.

It does not mean that anyone actually condones that behaviour. In fact I'm sure we all disagree with it strongly. I do.

Whilst I didn't find the joke particuarly clever or funny, he has every right to say what he likes. It was hardly offensive. And if you are offended by his comment, then perhaps the internet is the wrong place for you.

Exactly. Nobody was saying it's okay to belt women. Everyone knows it's wrong.

I understand.

In personal situations I often play with the same concept humorously. But the issue is it almost never works on the internet. This humor needs a personal touch, a mystique of mischievousness or pan-faced mockery. It's the performance which makes taboo funny. Without it, it's crude.

Worse is that without the obvious human touch, it can be received by some as more or less an uncompromising acceptance of the behavior. I knew that wasn't the case, but I also thought that without a personal touch, to indicate the absurdity of the statement, the joke was left a little too shock value, less playful.

Surely this whole incident would make the players annoyed at him.

I know at my work place if we had a salary cap, and one person there argued for a massive pay rise, there on forcing everyone else's pay down when there pay rate comes up for discussion-there would be a lot of pissed of workers.

Last year Collingwood had the Malthouse issue, this year Cloke.
Fans of other clubs must be rubbing their hands together with glee. Seems another distraction, is poisoning Collingwood's premiership campaign.......

Collingwood supporters must hate Coke

the guy thinks hes bigger than the club

pathetic, and hes not even that good of a player

Unfortunately for you , your club is also prepared to offer him huge bucks over 5 years. But you are right, there is no way he is worth the coin being talked about. He is not worth what the pies are offering, let alone what freo and the dees are said to have put on the table . He is a very good player that suits coll's system well. However in terms of natural talent he is not even worthy of cleaning buddy's boots. And then there's the issue of how long he goes on for? The end comes pretty quickly for power forwards. 5 years for cloke is laughable, so is 4 in my view . The pies should offer him no more than 3, with maybe incentive clauses re year 4. If he doesn't like it , him and his old man can be shown the door. A raft of other pies have taken huge cuts to stay at the club, yet the bloke who has been clearly the worst performed of all of their hog profile players in 2012 thinks he can hold the club to ransom. Disgraceful

Pies would be well served to seriously consider cutting ties with cloke, thereby freeing up huge cap space to chase a young KPF from elsewhere. The drums are already beating that Patton won't be staying at GWS beyond this contract, he would be the ideal candidate
