Not sure it's appropriate to post this here but in the movie "The Hangover" there is a scene where the characters gather on the roof of a Las Vegas hotel and at the end of the scene it appears that hotel is the same one John McCarthy was at - The Flamingo sign can clearly be seen at the end of the clip below. I just wonder if he was a big movie fan and thought it would be cool to visit the site of this scene. Just a thought.

I thought it was the Bellagio which is opposite the Flamingo.

Edit: Nope it was the roof of Caeser's Palace which is next door to Bellagio if memory serves.

They definitely stayed at Caeser's in the movie... recall the scene were JG asked the receptionist if "they're pager friendly... and... you probably get this a lot, but did Caeser actually stay here?"

A terrible tragedy for all footy fans, his family, friends and team mates.

RIP JMac, would have loved to see you in Tiger colours mate but sounds like you were carving out a successful career with Port instead. You'll be greatly missed champ.

In the spirit of remembering.

One of our recently delisted scholarship players wrote and filmed himself playing this tribute song to both McCarthy and a mate of his who he lost while he was overseas as well. Thought it was worth sharing.

Thanks mate.

Beautiful.

I'm a bit confused about the time discrepancy between McCarthy's death (5:37am Sun US, probably about 9:00pm ACST) and the club getting notified and speaking with the players 12 hours later. One news report on yahoo.com.au intimates that Dani tried to contact the players after John's phone call to her and that they didn't know where he was (maybe the reporter embellishing the facts here). Wonder if the players had realised he was missing prior to the club's phone-call and if they were interviewed by police to try to put together the missing hours prior to his death.

Thinking of all his mates at Port. They must be truly devastated. As for his family, I can only imagine. Not really sure what to say to be honest, but my condolences go out to everybody concerned.

when my cousin passed away suddenly last year this song was one of his favourites, the lyrics just get me , so sad , RIP John

Written about one of my mates in schools brothers.

Best song.

From what I have read... Dani tried calling the WAGs of the other players who were in LV, so they could reach JMac, but didn't contact the club. The club then found out later, because initially LV police communicated through the Victorian police (JMac's family are there) who then contacted the club on Monday morning.

Also initially the Vic police weren't sure it was JMac when 1st informing the club, but were about 99% sure when they pulled the other players together in LV for the conference call to inform them.

I hope this doesn't get taken the wrong way. I just hope he wasn't in pain when he died, and that it happened instantly, or, at the least, while he was unconscious.
