And am I the only one who thinks that we should pick the best available? Forget what position they play in or what state they're from. Would be very happy with Wines or Grundy.

Use later picks, rookie and preseason draft to fill needs.

Nope, other way around IMO. When you have an important need that needs to be filled, you need to make sure you fill it properly and the best way to do that is with early picks. When you're just adding depth to your list with late picks, then you go best available.

You reckon?

Gws don't really need more midfielders but they will be all over whitfield

I think it's more to do with the shorter players tend to be slower and weaker. Speed will definitely not be an issue with kennedy

Not really. Pretty much every single sub 175cm bloke is quick. If they arent quick, they have literally zero hope of making it.

The issue is they are limited to certain roles. They very very rarely make it as centre square midfielders because they have no reach against the myriad of taller midfielders these days. They are stuck to pockets and flanks.

If Kennedy has grown to 178-180cm then hes well worth it as hes a quick, exciting, skillful, athletic player. But if hes stuck around that 174-175cm mark then im happy to pass on him.

i can garantee you he is at least 178 at the end of Glenelgs pre season (late march early April, but they use his origonal height on the Tigers website at the start of pre season of 174

Making him grab a few extra cm this year isn't the hardest thing in the world

It's because all the ones that have made it are quick so they all seem quick. So your kinda backing up my not very well thought out theory :p

i heard a great saying from Flaggys B grade coach yesterday

"As the game goes on small blokes get slower, but you tall blokes don't get any smaller!"

The best thing for Kennedy to do is to come out tommorow and announce he suddenly suffered a career threatening knee injury while hang gliding drunk. then we can pick him up with a later pick.

If hes 178cms we will take him. If hes 174 we wont.

Still wouldn't at 178cm

Have read thru about 15 of the last 50 pages but haven't found anything on the 16 players in the mini draft. See the list at

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/143390/default.aspx

Am I right in saying there are only 4 players over 2 mini drafts that can be taken so only 2 can go this year? That's the way I read the rules.

So if the Melbourne and GC do deals with the GWS then no one else participates and the crows miss out on getting Brad Crouch's brother who has nominated this year.

Anyone know anything about what the 3 SA boy?
Luke Dunstan South Clare, Woodville-West Torrens
Luke Reynolds North Haven, Port Adelaide Magpies
Dwayne Wilson Murray Bridge Imperials, Sturt

They are likely to miss out, but what sort of range are they likely to go in for the 2013 draft when they are 18? Given who missed out in last years mini draft and where they will end up in this years draft, some bloody good players could have been snapped up.

http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/208/default.aspx?newsid=120016

The players who nominated by yesterday's 2pm deadline were:Chase Bower (Norwood, SA), Adam Carter (South Fremantle, WA), Brad Crouch (North Ballarat Rebels, Vic), Dayle Garlett (Swan Districts, WA), Brodie Grundy (Sturt, SA), Matthew Haynes (Northern Knights, Vic), Riley Hutchinson (East Perth, WA), Emmanuel Irra (South Adelaide, SA), Ben Kennedy (Glenelg, SA), Aaron Loccon (Norwood, SA), Sean Lynch (South Fremantle, WA), Todd McKay (South Adelaide, SA), Jaeger O'Meara (Dongara/ Railways, WA), Jonathan O'Rourke (Calder Cannons, Vic), Jason Pongracic (Dandenong Stingrays, Vic), Mason Shaw (South Fremantle, WA), Josh Simpson (North Adelaide, SA), Jake Stringer (Bendigo Pioneers, Vic), Shannon Taylor (Claremont, WA), Jimmy Toumpas (Woodville West Torrens, SA), Nick Vlastuin (Northern Knights, Vic), Matt Wallis (Norwood, SA), Laine Wilkins (Peel Thunder, WA), Daniel Williamson (Norwood, SA), Christopher Yarran (Perth, WA).

This is right. Small midfielders have inferior reach and are more easily bodied off the ball. The future midfield has everyone Kennedy's size- Sydney's Kennedy, not glenelg's.

Yes

Inside Midfielder, known him for my whole life, great hands, big bodied, played a bit as a tagger this year at champs, often played on the wing for WWT U18's

Yep, two picks left in the mini draft. Dunstan is the interesting SA boy- co-captain of the AIS team with Aish. A left footed midfielder. But the guys ahead of him are Martin, quick line breaker from WA, Hogan, big man child CHF from WA and Kelly, an inside midfielder from Victoria. Melbourne will try for Hogan if they don't have to use pick 3 on Viney. Bulldogs very interested in Martin.

This seems to mean GWS will take Whittfield, Grundy and Plowman before our pick.

Dwayne Wilson is an indigenous lad who hails from (Murray Bridge) Imperials. Same club as Chad Wingard.

He played in an A Grade premiership side last year with Imperials, I think as a 16 year old.

Skilful midfielder type.

Hasn't played any League or Reserves with Sturt yet, but has had a reasonable year in the under 18's.

I don't know anything about Dunstan, but this show a little bit:

So we are not getting a priority pick? Is that correct?

If so, what a ****ing joke. We've only got Wingard & pick 7 to show from our two seasons of absolute disgrace.

Seeing as a deal is close for AFL to take control of license, then this changes how they view us and will have a bearing on whether they feel we need help. Why would they assist anything to now when they had an eye on buying us on the cheap?
