Every year, around about this time, a few names unexpectedly start to crop up around draft discussions.
Firstly, players previously considered relatively low picks start to rise in many's esteem.
Likewise, a few highly touted prospects begin to diminish in the eye's of recruiters and talent scouts.
With that in mind, who is your tip to?:
1) Shoot up the draft order (i.e. Stephen Hill, Reece Conca)
2) Slide down the pecking order (i.e. Jack Darling, Mitch Grigg)
3) Fail to get a look in at all, in spite of BF hype (i.e. Zyrus Manson, Shane Nelson)
My three tips would be:
1) Tanner Smith: A heap of clubs would be eyeing off KPP stocks coming into this draft. In my mind, easily the best KPD available this year. Has been projected to go around the mid twenties, could easily jump into the early teens if a club has their heart set on him. A lot to like about Smith.
2) Dayle Garlett: Can be a selfish player and has had some well-documented attitude problems down at Swan districts. No doubt highly talented but whoever selects him would be backing themselves in to iron out these aspects of his game.
3) Marco Paparone: 2012 is a strong daft for midfielders, but it's probably not that great for talls. Saw a lot of last years KPP prospects such as Frost and Bosely go unpicked in the main draft because we tend to overhype the big fellas more than the little guys. Paparone is very much the flavour of the month. His contested marking leaves a lot to be desired and while his endurance lets him dominate juniors it won't allow him time and space at senior level. (Was tempted to go with Tom Lee here, but for me it's a foregone conclusion that he'll be snapped up come draft time now!)
