I think that is kind of the point. It is not so much about what season Buckley had a s a rookie coach. Bringing in a rookie coach, and missing out on the experience that a seasoned coach brings to bear in a final series is a questionable situation to put a club in.
MM signed on as director of coaching or something like that. He walked away.
How is that Eddies fault?

I won't deny Pies went backwards looking at result and play of the team... But not as much backwards as OP's team.

Kudos to Swans.

2013 should have a couple of new players and deeper list than this year for Pies... Looks like shoe ins as top 8 team again.

How about your team OP? Looks like a lot of question marks.

was eddie the only person in australia that didn't know mick would do exactly that? and he has known him for how long?
not going to knock buckley, but it always looked a strange and risky decision. the pies certainly aren't playing with near the same intensity and cohesiveness.

when u really think about it is unbelievable
how hard you work to get to be contenders, you make 2 grand finals in a row, your premiership window is open and you bring a first year inexperienced coach in over one of the greats.

Eddie's so far up his own backside that he had no idea that MM wouldn't walk, nor that Bucks still lacks the experience to be a great coach. The new coaches who have inherited great teams have all slipped back this season largely because whilst the great players can still pull them past most of the teams, they struggle against new gameplans and the emerging good teams.
But the main reason the Pies wobbled tonight was because of the toughness of last weeks game, just as the reason they lost the GF last year was because of the prelim against the Hawks.

No theyre not, but Bucks changed/tweeked the game plan over summer. How long did it take for MM to drill his original gp into the boys? C'mon give credit where it's due, Bucks has done well in his first, and haters gonna hate.

Let go the best coach in the AFL and boy has it backfired !

I reckon the Pies did ok this year....bit rough saying they've gone backwards when they've gone from a GF to last four....going backwards would've been missing top four maybe....still a very competitive team who play with great spirit....Swans were just too good tonight....

As much as I love to slag off at Collingwood I think Bucks has proven me wrong (I thought he'd be a crap coach) and considering Collingwoods setbacks they've had a good season.
Nothing wrong with making a prelim, more than my (AFL) team did this year.

Is this the same Malthouse who has a 1/4 hell even 1/5 GF record with Collingwood?

I think we have been spared GF embarrassment by being knocked out in the prelim. There's no shame in what Bucks achieved as a first year coach with all the season ending injuries, players in form slumps, etc.

There's no shame in being beaten by a better side either. Swans and Hawks are/were too good for us in 2012. In 2011, we were the "best side by a mile" and Mick still couldnt deliver the goods.

We won't be going away any time soon.

I think the Pies are a great side, but I also think the Eagles are a great side.
Like I said last weekend. home ground advantage in the AFL is huge.
It is that simple, the planets have to align for a different result.
Sydney were absolute certainties tonight.

the AFL is what it is, I have no idea who is the better side out of Collingwood or Sydney? the system as it is decides that for us. but we know that deep down this game had been at the MCG the result may of been different.

That is the system.............................

Who's going to get kicked out next year for Roos to move in though...
He wouldn't go near GWS... we all know that...
Neither Richmond nor North have the balls to fire Hardwick or Scott if another mediocre season follows...
Maybe West Coast if they miss finals?... That'd be strange, wouldn't it?

We are quite happy with where we are at tyvm. You should be looking in your own backyard before throwing stones at others. Your coach has managed his team so well that you have barely managed to field the same 22 each week through injuries.

A first year coach making the Prelim is far from a disaster. I don't think Buckley is a great coach, but taking a pretty injury ravaged Pies team that far is pretty impressive.

Personally I'd love to buy into the Pies in ruin story, would love nothing more :D. But they made the Prelim. Far from disastrous

Your just a flog who loves slagging the pies and Buckley. Pull your finger out, you clearly know SWFA
Go back to your local community club north. They play in the Amo's don't they?

its nothing against collingwood id say the same thing about the roos or any other club if they did this i find it staggering. it would be the same as lions 3 peat leigh matthews coached 2 grand finals in a row and the third year they gave it to voss.....good idea?
