Bloody hell, what do we have to do to get some F/S selections some time! Maybe we should set up a "stud farm/room" in one of the offices at Seaford and bring in anyone willing to do the deed with anyone on our list, so that they can sire some future F/S selections? :D

Whenever the Saints players attempt a 'stud farm' of their own, the police seem to get involved...

KM , the Geelong board has flown the the idea of our R1 (p15) for 2 picks in the 20's. Its a bit hard to judge who would have those picks atm , maybe Brisbane , GWS , who knows after some trades. (Doesn't really seem to be a bulletproof list of the draft order around atm so I not 100% on who has what picks).

Anyway , what would your assessment of that proposal be as far as talent goes.A p15 kid v P20 as far talent goes.
Then who , in your opinion , would we be able to get in the mid 20's to make it work for us. I was thinking Jessie Lonergan or a similar type and perhaps a running type like Towers might be good outcome for us.

If swans get another pick in the 20s somehow I reckon that we'd be all over that

Knightmare what's your opinion of the TAC's mock draft?

Just looking at it now.

The rating of Lee is very interesting. Don't know if they know someone we don't but pick 11. Wow.
I had him in my top 25 for a period but probably more a 2nd-3rd rounder I would have thought.

You can tell Terry Wallace made this draft with Nathan Hrovat in his top 15. The guy loves all the Carey boys and has a serious man crush on this guy. Hrovat has probably been the best in the TAC this year but I don't see him going 1st round at his height without all that much pace.

James Stewart in the first round was another headscratcher. Just hasn't done anything this year to suggest that he should be an early selection. Sure he is a nice height at 197cm and has some athleticism and a long kick but he is more a 2nd-3rd rounder at best.

Surprised to see Stringer, Shaw, Kennedy, Garner and Clurey not in the first round and expect all the feature 1st round on draft day.

I suggest TAC Cup F/S mainly watch the metro boys going by this attempt.

Not taking anything away from the program - Shifter knows his stuff but I think a number of the regular bigfooty phantom draft guys do better phantom drafts.

I don't watch enough TAC cup and personally I think its a damn shame its not shown as much as say college basketball in America! We should know the names of the upcoming stars without having to come on here looking for them.
I wouldn't know who Whitfield was if I didn't go on here.
U18s needs to be pumped up more in Australia.

Agreed. That needs to be the next step in making the game bigger. More TV access to TAC Cup games and even VFL.

I agree.

It won't ever get up to that college basketball level interest but I'd love to see perhaps on ABC on one of their many channels showing weekly Tac Cup or u18 champs or some junior game of the week as they do with the VFL coverage.

You'll get plenty of fans watching. The families, school friends of the players and interested u18 watchers enjoying it which with increased awareness I expect would build in a hurry - with people knowing a number of these players will in future seasons be on AFL lists.

Surely if Carlton wanted Lee that badly they would just offer something like their second pick to GWS to pre-list him? Wouldn't think there was any need to use a top 15 or 20 pick on him.

I suspect you are right.

Malthouse has expressed a strong interest in adding an established key forward. Whether it be Cloke or someone else so Carlton might be interested in Lee as that ready to go key forward.

Carlton might want to trade player + second round pick if keen for Lee (if the competition for Lee is as high as TAC Cup F/S seem to think) but pick 11 is clearly too much, even with the breakout season he has enjoyed and I'm sure Carlton realise this.

No because carltons 2nd rnd selection will be around #33-#35
GWS wont go that deep into the draft i would think and even if they did decide their own 3rd rounder is around #43

They will upgrade their #43 to another teams late 20's early 30's pick through another trade then swap that along with lee to say Collingwood/Stkilda for their 1st round selection.

GWS should be finished with their selections with their pick 24 i think.

Which debacle was that? It's hard to remember which one of our round one trade debacle's was which!

THE_GUN, they could still package the Carlton 2nd rounder with something else though, to help them move higher up the order. Doubt enormously that we will be offering our 1st round pick for Lee and a pick around 30, BTW!

Thats an option, but the original post i replied to suggested carltons 2nd round for pre listingg lee then onto carlton.
We won't be trading any first round picks after our last debacle.
I meant down grading of about 8-10 spots not just trading it away completely.

I'd tune in and watch at least local teams if they were shown on ABC! Especially if I know I can follow all year. I'll probs not go to their games anyway, so more views this way.

Oh ok, my mistake.

ARR, would probably be quicker to name the ones that weren't debacles :p but I was referring to the Lovett trade. Obviously I misunderstood what THE_GUN was saying.

Still though, don't see us trading either of our picks. We could use a couple of really good midfielders going forward and if we pick up two our future midfield is almost set. We'll probably look for a key position player in the second round.

Ah, the Lovett trade. Happy memories. :D

I've got to say, unless we trade someone of decent value off our list, I reckon we'll have to trade our 2nd pick to get someone for either FB, or back-up ruck (like Hickey). Hard to see us filling both of those immediate needs with someone decent without giving up our 2nd rounder, I reckon.

Tom Lee played a stinker today, 4 kicks and 1 goal in the winning team for the WAFL GF. He really looks no better than Chad Jones who's in the same team. A couple of years ago Jones was the one that was delisted from North and then WCE and was kicking bags for Claremont, If Lee doesn't get picked up this year he'd have an average year in the WAFL due to giving up IMO.

I see this as a futile exercise as you need years in the system to make any sort of accurate assessment, but it interests me how you come to some of your conclusions.

Viney played with Greene at Ashburton Juniors and was always better, as his 4 B&F's in a row attest. Viney played with Greene at Oakleigh Chargers and was always considered better. Viney was BOG in the losing GF a year ago in which Green was a teammate. But based on one year in the AFL Greene is supposedly a superior prospect.

Viney has always been the better junior and inside mid, which for me is significant.
Form in juniors does not automatically translate to seniors, just take Greene for example, barely made the Chargers and Metro squad and averages more than 25 possessions per game in debut season. Josh Toy the opposite, excelled and was considered a top 5 selection in juniors, has only played 5 games this year.
Cannot just automatically assume stuff like that.

Knightmare, can I get your thoughts on the key forwards?

Daniher is the clear no.1, but popular wisdom has the next rung being Jaksch ahead of Shaw, and then Membrey.

I'd have those three reversed in order, as recruiters are followers - realizing now you don't have to be 194 cms if you're strong as an ox and are athletic like Membrey is.

Hey knightmare what can you tell me about a couple of guys who were named in the TAC cup AA team in gribble (named on the wing) and gilmore in ruck. are they under ages and what are there chances of being drafted?

Lee has been very good all year. Scored 6 goals in his other final, just a shame he didn't do it in the big one.

Knightmare, how much do you know about the next 4 doggies father/sons?

Kennedy
Foster
Wallis
Cordy

Thanks for your time

Other than knowing Foster and Kennedy are draftable next year with Wallis and Cordy in 2014 my knowledge is limited at this stage but I'm sure to learn more about them both next season as I see more of them.

Knightmare I'm not sure if you've seen much of our rookie Rory Laird currently playing with Crouch at West Adelaide. If so, where do you think he would go in this years draft?
