If that is the case I see that as a vote of no confidence in Smack going forward by the AFC...

I don't think this at all because at best Smack is a part time ruckman. I can see him being more of a permanent forward or even defender. He doesn't have the height to be a full time ruckman

Was just tweeted we are now favourite to land Giles next week, so I doubt Gorringe will be the player we will ask for from GC o_O
This is great from our club's perspective to have two quality ruckman BUT its just another Ivan situation. Neither Giles nor Sauce can play as key forward which is something we should be looking for. Having said that, I would love to have someone of Giles quality on the list because if Sauce goes down, we have a ready made replacement.

As for GC and Tippett, I reckon we would be angling for Sam Day and the pick they get for Caddy. Whether we get it or not is another question.

Kurt is one of the best Key forwards going around and his ability to also play in the ruck in a major bonus. There is a reason why he is such a wanted commodity in the league. Players like him are bloody hard to find and are at a premium. His values would be 2 first round picks inside top 15 one of which would be in top 10.

I am sure if you had your time again you would of taken Wells instead of Careys 28 games and 50 goals (approx)

Its a good point you make as clearly even a champion like Carey you can pay overs
we actually paid for him with pick 4. AFL then took two picks away from Carlton, resulting in pick 4 becoming pick 2.

Think Adelaide is pretty keen on Tom Lynch from GC in preference to any of the SA boys playing there. Would be a tougher deal to broker, but this kid has something about him that would enable him to slip straight into our forward line.

It seems as if Giles is doing the pushing on this one. So he must understand he would be No.2 ruck here possibly playing a lot of SANFL.

Per http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...tion-draft-picks/story-e6frexx0-1225947932889

Brisbane Lions – end round one selection (compensation for the loss of Michael Rischitelli).
Gold Coast Suns – end round one selection (traded from the Brisbane Lions, after compensation for the loss of Jared Brennan).

So 2 compo pics from them, it was not a trade, the trade was just GC paying Bris for the permission

They did trade Pick 5 to get Pick 10 & Brennan. The AFL then compensated Brisbane for losing a 2nd player. (Iva - the other stuff traded related to Ceglar/A Krak/Fraser)

This is what we are hoping happens with GWS, if they picked up Kurt in the PSD - us getting compensation.

Would you do that deal in the reverse situation, not likely but who knows what the clubs will agree on

If the Crows already had the young talent that GC had amassed, and I also knew I had a likely top 2 pick in O'Meara coming in to the side already anyway, then yes, I probably would. Having stacks of young talent is great, but if you guys don't start supplementing it with proven, physically mature players, that young talent just takes longer to develop, and you keep getting belted every week. I would imagine that GC would be planning to have a shot at a flag whilst Ablett is still in his prime, and at this rate, it isn't going to happen.

That just ain't going to happen.....no way would he be on the table, he is one player that absolutely has more upside than $Kurt$...not to mention superior in almost every facet of his game!! Gun!!

I stand corrected, thanks Danoz (cracker of an avater BTW :thumbsu:)

Can I just put out there (at the risk of being smashed) if Carey one of the best players of all time with more than 700 goals to his name and an avg of 2.6 goals per game as a CHF was worth pick 4 but Tippett with 1.6 is worth pick 2?

Terrible comparison. Different era of footy. Carey was 30 and had 12 months off of footy. Already was on the decline. Tippett is in his Prime. Not just a forward. Rarity of Forward/Rucks pushes his price up massively.

Anyone else sensing a press conference at Southport Sharks?

Imagine my surprise that after two months of silence Gold Coast threw their hat in the ring this morning.

Also if Carey hadn't have injured his neck or his knee, he would have played twice the amount of games, and kicked twice the amount of goals. If, if, if. Probably would've taken us to the GF as well.

Crows chairman Rob Chapman told The Advertiser last night his reaction to Tippett's defection would be shaped by the club the Queenslander chose as his next home. That is now between AFL premier Sydney and Gold Coast.
"We have bent over backwards for this guy," said Chapman.
His club not only made Tippett the highest-paid player - $700,000 a season - but also went to extraordinary lengths to deal with his homesickness and dislike of Adelaide life, including moving his brother Joel to SA.
"If he wanted to go home, I get it," Chapman said.
"If he wanted to go back to his family, I get it.
"But to now tell us that he wants to leave Adelaide to go to another club, that grates on me at the moment."

I really can understand if Tippet didn't like living in Adelaide, lets face it the vast majority of 22-35 people leave for pretty much the same reason.

but it is still good for the club to come out swinging a bit.

Tippett is yet to put a players wife away..... atleast to my knowledge :p

I conceed the 5 years age difference but even with Tippett in his prime as you say he is no where near a Carey even at 30, in fact Carey was still averaging 2 goals a game in his time at the Crows as a CHF not a deep FF like Tippett. You quote Tippett being more valuable due to his ruck ability I would rather have Ducks game winning ability.

I think you guys have every right to push to get the best deal, I just think that he is not worth the No2 pick, he isn't a Judd (picks 3 and 20) or Carey (pick 4).

I have visited Adelaide many times for work and pleasure and enjoy the character, leafy suburbs and stone houses, but then again I am in my 40's so probably rather than counter your argument I am probably making it :D
