Exchange of draft picks I'd imagine - theyre about six spots higher in the draft order so we can get some sort of upgrade that might help with other trades

Problem i have if Brown decides to go next year, especially if he doesn't get much time on field, then we no longer have any control, at the moment we do. Why not be proactive, rather than wait until next year and get the shaft as we no longer have the control.

And then he decides to leave next year after not getting a game and we no longer hold the whip hand.

Only if he nominated one club next year, if he told us he just wanted to go back home for oppertunity we would get a better deal than the one we would get now.

I am assuming here, but I dont think Brown's management shopped him around. It seems more a case of Cripps wanting to leave and StKilda offering Brown a contract to try worm him out of the crips deal.

You also have to factor in having great KP depth in the run to what might be a premiership next year...

there goes our KPD depth...

on the surface this trade period is not looking good for us. we've put years of development into brown, stevens and swift. and now someone else will be reaping the benefits (in the case of brown and stevens). we likely end up with draft picks and have to start from square one.

Out:
1 x experienced, premiership KPF
2 x promising, young midfield prospects
1 x promising, young KPD

How many more years does Glass have left?

If we can't get a fair (screw fair, he's contracted)...more than fair trade this year I'd take the chance.

Probably only one for Glassy, but that's not what this is about, who's to say at the end of the year Brown has played a fair amount of game time but still wants to go, we get screwed majorly ie: nominates for draft and we get nothing, where as we can get something now.

So i'd rather make it work for us than not.

We wouldn't get screwed though.

With this it seems like only one club is in the mix. Next year I'm sure there would be a few vying for his services. We'd get a fair deal next year too.

I'll be really disappointed if he goes. Always had a lot of time for Brown and primed him for a while to be Glass's replacement. 6 season of time putting into him for minimal result. Spit in the face to a club thats stuck with him through serious injuries and given him a best club man award only a few days ago

Will need more than Cripps to make the trade work. Ideally we would get a ready made KPD in exchange but unlikely to happen unless its old man Blake

Ok note to our recruiters, Forget drafting Victorian Mummies Boys period!

This. I'm normally OK with guys seeking opportunities elsewhere but to all f*** off at the same time is pretty shitty form IMO. They knew it will hurt the club but they don't give a crap.

I'm going to call bullsh!t on this one....Browns partner just signed a new deal to stay in the west (she is from Melbourne too) it doesn't make any sense at all! Surely Brown doesn't want out with one year left on his deal????

Well done West Coast, losing another promising youngster. Surely now we will take a more proactive approach to playing the younger players on the cusp of the 22. (That is if any chose to stay)
Look to Geelong and Collingwood. I'd be confident that half those kids who got games in their strong sides this year, would not have come close to selection in ours if we had drafted them instead. Although not all of them kept their spot indefinitely, at least they had the opportunity. Some even became permanent fixtures and made decent contributions.
I believe we only debuted 3 players this year (One was Hill) compared to 7 for Collingwood and a bit more for the Cats.
Rotate and rest some players FFS.

you make it sound worse then what it is, it will be a good thing for the club,

We lose two young mids that haven't impressed when given opportunity

We lose Lynch who is no big deal,
Have plenty forwards into next year.

Brown who has shown nothing aswell this year.

We gain Wellingham, Cripps and possibly others with Brown traded.
Might even get to keep pick 17 aswell.

Might pick up a key backman in it or Brown could stay which happy with either way.
