How did Angus Monfries get to Port then? He was a free agent that moved in a trade.....

If you trade him it will be for a pick the other team doesnt intend on using.

Or a pick that will be worse than a compensation pick they receive for losing their own players to free agency, in the case of Port, Chaplin and the other dude.

Compo is calculated after net ins vs outs to free agency, so if they take one with FA, it affects their 'balance sheet'

Then how did Port do it?
Port opted to trade as they had already had movements the other way with free agency, losing Chaplin and Pearce, so the compensation they get would be reduced if Monfries arrived as a free agent.

If Young comes to Collingwood, we haven't lost anybody to free agency so aren't due any compensation and as such there is no incentive to trade.

Sorry to butt in guys.

Young can still be traded, but he doesn't need to. Neither did Port and Monfries, but Angus was traded so that it wouldn't effect the compo picks Port would get for Chaplin/Pearce.

We know.

OK that title better reflects what really is the position of young but funnily enough I think it will raise more questions from people who don't understand the FA rules!

I'm just messing with you.

Here's what I reckon. Young to Collingwood for Pick 17 they got for Wellingham. Sounds good? ;)

But I think he's a free agent. Can you do that?

Young deal is done boys. Announced as soon as tomorrow. So we have wellingham's ready made replacement, but with better kicking skills, and the cream on the cake is a 1st round draft pick (in a supposedly strong draft) courtesy of the suckers at west coast. Sharrod is a good bloke and solid player and was developing nicely but let's be honest was behind all of swan pendles Thomas beams sidebottom ball in the midfield pecking order, yet we still got a 1st round pick for him. Very shrewd work by our club gents

The ball is in the players court though he might tell Collingwood do a trade or I'm signing with Brisbane, if Collingwood truly want him than we could see a trade of picks, though I doubt that would happen.
