No we have already promoted them to the senior list last year...we have to upgrade them in this draft...with the last 2 picks

Not sure you are right about that.

Upgrades during the season are temporary. At the start of the next year they can return to the rookie list.

Unless the club has already announced they are promoted?

No we don't unless they have changed the rules? They can go back to the rookie list once the injured senior list player they replaced is back.

I think they will both be rookies for the start of next year.

Listen guys don't get up in all these picks with untried players.
Collingwood must make a strong stand with dawes.Remember if we look at all the draft picks NONE at this point are proven or better than dawes.

Dawes whether you like him or not is a premiership key position player with 2 years left on his contract with Collingwood. We trade him if it suits us on our terms or he stays a pie.
Melbourne are desperate for another big bodied key position player so pick 20 alone is not enough.

If melbourne think they hacve these great picks then let them use them on a kpp throught the draft. They got J hogan who may be great one dy andf they traded 2 top picks for him .Pick 3 and 13.If that is the case we are shopping around aproven kpp experienced player so for me what would be fair is Chris DAWES for their pick 4 otherwise no deal. They can get Pederson then and get another kp player with pick 4 that will take 4 years to come on.

Dawes is ready to go so pick 4 is fair otherwise NO DEAL.

But we have not taken Luke Ball and Lachlan Keeffe off the long term injury list.

Anyway surely Williams would be an upgrade considering his impact he had. Not sure about Mooney

this board is unreal

pick 4 for Dawes are you having a laugh?

Dawes pick# 4.........

If I was choosing my lunch time football team 30 years ago in primary school I still wouldn't use my pick # 4!

Let's not lose sight on reality here, this is Chris Dawes not Matthew Pavlich!

You guys just don't get it do you?

Melbourne forked out picks 3 and 13 for unknown Jesse Hogan who MAY be good in 4 years time. But he is zip at the moment in fact all the draft picks are unknown quantities so yes pick 4 for a proven afl premiership player who is sti;ll under contract is fair.Plus dawes is kp.He is also 24 not 34

Ok i would rather keep dawes and let Melbourne use their pick 4 to pick up an unknown in the draft then they can use their pick 20 on pederson .

I am comfortable with dawes we know what were gonna get with dawes but the draft you don't know.Even still if you do pick up a good player it will take him 4 years before they blitz. We are in a premiership window right now heading into the next 2 maybe three years with this group.

Pick 4 is fair pick 20 is laughable and if collingwood do that trade they not oly stuff us up but they lose my faith in their trading awareness. You look at your deficiencies and fix them keep developing youth but don;t lose sight of twhat your needs are now.

An example is okeefe a few years back wanted to go to carlton, carlton didn't copme up with the right pick he stayed a swan .He is now a dual premiership player.

Incorrect. Promoted rookies are not senior listed. They are just that. Promoted rookies. They remain on the rookie list until we draft them into the senior list. And we are not forced to in any situation.

This has to be quite possibly the most biased ridiculous one eyed post I've seen on this board. And the part I've bolded is the most overused meaningless phrase ever. You can't say Dawes is a star, or even a really good player, so instead 'Premiership player' is the only useful phrase to attribute value to him. When the fact is he's a player who was nothing more than solid in 2010, and has steadily declined since. He was terrible this year. As in my Hawthorn supporting mates loved when they saw his name in our side when we played them, because it was basically like playing against 17 rather than 18 players.

Top 10 picks net you potential superstars, something Dawes will never come close to being. He's not even worth pick 20, and we should thank our lucky stars we can get even that. We are doing the right thing haggling with Melbourne, because they clearly want him and we feel we could possibly get more out of him. But if it came down to the last day of the trade period and it was still just pick 20 on the table, you grab it and run and thank your lucky stars you got something decent in return, because Dawes will never have that kind of trade value again. It would be the definition of selling high.

Yeah but even if they become superstars it doesn't happen overnight takes years.
So you are gonna tell me that Jesse hogan will take Melbourne to the finals next year.Ahhhhhhhhh NO !
bUT Chris DAWES and Mitch Clarke offer experienced fire power up forward.

Stop dreaming !

And you seem to fail to grasp the concept of player potential. Any club that has the option of getting Jess Hogan or Chris Dawes picks Hogan and doesn't even blink. Hogan has the potential to be a superstar. Dawes does not. And stop using 'premiership player' like it carries any great significance. Plenty of shit players have been premiership players.

You are vastly overrating AFL experience. It's not as valuable as you are saying especially when said player is of average ability. Teams will back their ability to develop a younger player with no AFL experience but far more talent everyday of the week.

Well articulated and couldn't agree more. Thinking we will receive pick 4 for Dawes is unrealistic lunacy. It simply will not happen and any debate on it is wasted energy.

You seem to be under the ridiculous assumption that Melbourne are anywhere near a Premiership window. Their window will in fact likely coincide with Hogan's rise to the AFL side in a few years at the absolute earliest.
Pick 4 or Dawes stays a Pie. Simple.
I guess Dawes stays a Pie then. And in 2 years when Dawes gets delisted because we've developed better options in his position and he's not required anymore, we will be looking back wondering why the hell we didn't get a first rounder for him when he had some trade value.

I agree. Should just say "pick 4, or nothing". We're probably happy to keep Dawes if we don't get much good out of a trade. Let's just see how much Melbourne need a KPF.

I suppose the big question here is what can Hine do with pick 20?

We already have 17 & 18. If Hine believes there is little available around that pick then I'd be more than happy to keep Dawes.

He is only 24...so when Lynch retires Dawes will still be in his peak.

We are not going to attract pick 4. The Dee's have already traded out too many draft picks...for a kid who they can't even use this year. So they will definitely be keeping pick 4 and utilising it. Pick 20 is the best we can get for Dawes.

The question simply is...can we get a quality kid at pick 20? I've watched the replays of all our games up until round 13 on foxtel, and Dawes was quite useful in a number of games despite been out of form.

But that's all he was...useful. Lynch will offer us a bit more in terms of goals...but a bit less in terms of defence. So its a break even I reckon.

I'll leave this one up to Hine. He knows the draft better than I do. Personally I would lean towards keeping him as we already have picks 17 & 18. Perhaps others can enlighten me as to what is available at pick 20.

I'm seeing a pattern emerge here with BF posters who have reference to Cloke in their BF Alias.....Look I like Dawes and more then happy for him to stay but I'm also a realist and can see it from outside my black & white goggles!

I am all for playing hard ball on this trade, we seem to have the whip hand in that the Dee's want him.
Again you can make a case either way in 20 is overs or unders, but it really comes down to what the buyer is prepared to pay.

The other factor at play is now FA. In 2 years ( i think ) Dawes is RFA and can almost walk, so there somes a time when his trade value is ziltch regardless of form, position, size etc etc

Consider what the Saints would have received had they traded Goddard last year compared to what they will recive in compensation.

List Managers will earn their keep from now on...
