If there are player sanctions for those involved in a dodgy program and Monfries was part of it he will have to have same penalties imposed.

You'd think so. You'd think all players involved will be sanctioned. Given the circumstances as we understand them right now in that the players had no knowledge and trusted the club, they may get some sort of reduction. And if that happens, players are going to be pissed at trusting a club and ending up with their reputations in tatters. Careers will be blighted, some will be finished. I love the smell of legal action in the morning.

There have been no details, no specifics and its taken them 12 months to produce a glossy little report that effectively says a lot about nothing.

Wake me up when someone gets charged and some evidence gets produced.

They haven't named names for legal reasons at this stage. But the naming will come and so will the sanctions. Essendon is in trouble.

If Essendon had someone on their payroll employed or consulting lying about what went into the players bodies and they get sanctions. Essendon lawyers will want to be good.

At this stage this is what appears to have happened. I guess we wait until we find out more, but like you say, EFC will be ****ed if it's true.

Not really. We know players, including ours are on rec drugs. Where do you get drugs from? Dealers, who are part of criminal organisations. All clubs have the immediate defence that:

1. They belong to the only competition in Oz that tests for rec/illicit drugs ie we are doing more than anyone else

2. The AFL does not inform the clubs who has positive resullts, clubs are not allowed to run their own tests so what can the clubs do without inpinging on their players personal rights to privacy etc?

The pollies will try and make a big deal of it but relatively speaking AFL is the code with the best policy. Are pollies drug tested? Are the the public servants? I do not like the use of these drugs but the AFL can dig and fight once it gets to illicits.

This whole saga just proves how much the media runs out lives and how easily we believe something that is rammed down our throats. Essendon are still innocent until proven guilty.

Yeah but the clubs and players in question will be fine. Essendon is the only one dealing with an issue where outcomes are very uncertain. So they go Eddie over rec drugs, what could he or the club do under the current regime, that most in the media have applauded. They have no illicit program in NRL, ARU, A League etc. Easy to take the higher moral ground.

Logic says that there are aboout 8 sides that will be dragged into the illicit drug story, meaning that it will be spread and no one club will be the sole focus. Any penalties are also up to the AFL, not ASADA. Much easier for the AFL to fight and control. They will give ground in some areas but they are on pretty solid footing.
