Would it not make sense to drop Heatherton to Div 2 or Div 3, and play a nine team comp? If they don't have a ressie team, what is going to happen in June & July when they have 10 or 12 players available? Forfeit.
Not to mention the floggings they will cop which will make the competition a joke. At least in Div 2/3 it may give them a chance to regroup as a club. The SFL should have been discussing this with them early in year. Not a good look.

Heatherton appear to be in some difficulty! With East Brighton and St.Pauls in their first 3 games it could get very ugly at Ross Street. With the tanking enquiry into Melbourne (not guilty but fined $500K) who is going back Highett or Heatherton against each other? Could be a nil all draw!

I heard at Dingley on Saturday that The Tunners are going to play their Over 35's Team as their 2nds this year! It was a comment from a good source but i would not put my house on it being 100% accurate.

They are in a world of pain at Heatherton! Could the league replace Heatherton with, for the want of a name, Bentleigh or Skye? Not a good look for a Club in Div 1 to be smashed every week, dont worry, we have been there! Furthermore, no legitimate 2's and no U'19's. This is the league showpiece and unfortunately The Tunners should not be a part of it!

For what its worth i hope that the news is overexaggerated and Heatherton can battle on. They are run by a hanfful of people that do not stop putting their hands in their own pockets to keep the place afloat. These guys do not deserve for this to happen!

Agree, its not a good look for the league in that a Divvy 1 team having no reserves. I think someone from Heatherton should have flagged it with the league a little earlier in regards to the situation they are in. They would've have know about this for quite some time, you just can't hope for 25+ blokes just to rock up in March.

From what I saw on Saturday, Heatherton had a couple of blokes that look old enough to be my father playing, granted they are probably club stalwarts & great players in their day, but not up to Division 1 standard today. Also heard they had to ring around for players just a fill some of the bench.

I feel sorry for the league with other leagues watching on, hoping it doesn't venture well. Those leagues & clubs know who they are. I also feel sorry for Heatherton in what is supposed to be their centenary year. Here's hoping they can somehow get themselves out of this pickle

Mahalo I think the obvious choice would be Mordialloc to go back up. Previous demoted club who has recuited well in the offseason & in a better position than Heatherton. But its not up to me & its only 3 weeks to the start of the season. I hope the SFL are having some discussions though

No one likes to see clubs go through this turmoil. The Heatherton boys have worked their arses off at committee level but it doesn't seem to work. They have new clubrooms planned and maybe take the next step but at present they look to be about to implode

Don't like to reply to my own post but need to add a few thoughts. Players that have bailed out should have a good look at themselves. If every one involved at football clubs just gave it away because things aren't going swimmingly there would be no footy. It's too easy to walk away and wash your hands of the problem. Hard yards are required and that makes the rewards so much better when they are achieved. Nothing comes easy particularly in this great game, unfortunately some players do not embrace the club they represent and are there for purely selfish reasons. I hope like hell that Heatherton pull through!

Has been said it before but it must be incredibly tough for this club to survive and a full credit to them. Geographically placed in the middle of nowhere surrounded by golf courses and market gardens. They recently tried very hard to get colts and juniors up and running without success. The actual suburb is several klms away with other local junior clubs more accessible. Not sure I would want my kids riding a bike home from training at Ross Reserve down Old Dandenong Road in winter (or summer for that matter)

I reckon to be viable they need Kingston council to move them into the heart of the new suburban area. They cannot prosper in their present location and there is a real opportunity to tap into a developing suburb, albeit a relatively small one.

In regard to Mordialloc being a possible replacement. Don’t get to carried away about some of there VAFA inclusions. Most are genuine Reserves players and St Bedes reserves were horrible last year.

Fish – Not sure what you mean but surely your not inferring that other leagues are watching on with a view of scooping them up are you?

Agree, its not a good look for Div 1 to have two teams that look along way behind the rest, but it is far two late to change it now, and they still have time to find some more players as hard as it would be.
Lets hope for the standard of Div 1 that they can pull a rabbit out of the hat, as that's what they need.

Lets face, whilst Highett and Heatherton are struggling more than most, every club (St Pauls aside) have lost more players than they have gained.
IMO, unfortunately the standard of the comp will take a big backward step in 2013 and if the Doggies don't win it (and should go through undefeated), they will be spewing. They might have still won it without spending big time on Bruno, James etc!! At least now they have made sure.
2014 anyone? ;)

Rooster 24 no that's not what I meant. I was implying that a few supporters from local teams in the area, from other leagues would be smiling at the fact that the SFL is not in as strong a position, standard wise as last year.

It's ironic though that SFL Div 3 is the big improver this year

Thinking of coming back to the VAFA then Fish?

Fair enough. Most people who have been involved in footy in the South East have links or know people across many clubs and competitions. No genuine footy person wants to see an old established club like Heatherton on its knees. Long-term viability would be helped by a move away from Ross Reserve and into the residential part of Heatherton.

Yeah it's only a few that want SFL on its knees. Heatherton are in their centenary year which is putting a dampener on the celebrations.
I think it's an excellent idea if Kingston council were to help move them, but councils these days are a bit precious about their grounds. Where would they move to. I'm not sure the council will build a new ground & facilities for them, so maybe a relocation to Kingston Heath (not sure if big enough??) or what about Le Page? (Not in Heatherton, I know)

I see what you've done there Freak, put the focus onto St Pauls whilst your mob fly under radar hey ;)

We've actually lost a fair few players not just a few through seniors but a lot through reserves.

This may be due to a few reasons such as the ressies winning the flag means a few move on content with what they have achieved.

We've also had a few get poached by lower division clubs with promises of senior football.

Big Nicho Salvatore is currently getting a gig in Old Haileybury seniors at CHB from reports.

I agree, the standard of the league in season 2013 will drop, unfortunately.

But i would be interested to see what the players in vs players out ratio is (usually it's presented at the sponsors night, does anyone have this info?).

FYI, Old Haileybury have now been moved from McKinnon reserve to Princess Park in Caulfied permanantly.

This is great news for both St Pauls and OH, as we now have a place to ourselves and can move forward.

From the sounds of it, Ajax aren't too happy.

Wow, that's big news for St Pauls as I know you guys didnt always see eye to eye with your co-tennants & vice versa.

Ajax have been trying to mussle in onto that ground for years. They'll be spewing. Someone from OH must know someone high up at Glen Eira Council as Ajax will think they have been "back-doored". I guess money doesn't always talk...or does it

its good for these club to take the glory when thay are going good so when it is hard other clubs say put them down to anther div they should strugal like all club doand then go qown and see how hard it get to come back like we had too

I see the point you're trying to make peter duncan & to a certain extent I agree, but its a little different Moorabbin struggling in Div 2 & then going to division 3 the year after. SFL Div 1 is the showcase competition of this league & what the league is promotes itself on. Remember the SFL is always trying to coax other strong clubs from other leagues to the comp, therefore we need the strongest teams in Div 1 to compete. No one wants to read about 20+ goal thrashings every week in the Leader, as Heatherton won't survive the year out. No one wants to see them fold, for the leagues sake.

For the future of the Tunners going down to Div 2 decision might be the best for them & the league. Just my opinion

THe relationship got better over the last few years but it's always hard when you have to share storage space, training ground, social rooms after trainings etc.

Ajax currently play outside of Glen Eira council and as such the council wanted to relocate someone from within the council area.

Plus they were also concerned with the amount of traffic McKinnon reserve got from the sounds of it.

This won't be the end of it as Ajax would be unlikely to lie down.

Correct me if I am wrong. Doesn't Caulfield still play out of Princes Park? Meaning the issue of traffic would still be an issue. I would have thought it easier to bring the second ground up to scratch at McKinnon reserve
