It has to be instructions from Channel 7; how else have all of BT, Bruce, Commetti and Darcy all gone from good to horrible commentators recently?

I'm convinced that BT is told to ham it up and act the buffoon. There is surely no other explanation.

Channel 7 have a pretty obvious script.

BT to be the leader, using all of his catch cries as often as possible to "appeal" to the viewing public, coz apparently we like that shit.
Darcy to suck up BTs ass throughout the entire call, making sure he references BT as often as possible whilst adding very little else.
Both BT and Darcy to give Richo as much shit as they can.
Richo to cop the crap given to him by BT and Darcy, actually say something reasonable once in a while, and always look good in a suit.

Even at its best there is no way I'd choose 7 over SEN Friday (and as a fill in) and MMM Sat to Sunday.

I don't mind Richo. Call me crazy, but I've actually always liked him and reckon he goes okay at what he does in the commentary box.

The thing that I don't get is this:

Who actually likes BT's drivel?

'scuse the French- but he makes a dickhead of himself, week after week after week, just like clockwork. His buffoon act was mildly funny for one week- now it's just boring, annoying, unfunny and predictable as hell.

At what point did Channel 7 decide that their commentary would be better packaged as some rubbish comedy side show? And why?

I honestly find it very hard to believe that any sort of market survey- style exercise could extrapolate that the average mug punter likes or wants the bullshit they carry on with.

It is so frustrating. I know I'll be blasting out tunes on Saturday night because the TV will end up out the window if it is a close match.

I used to like the chemistry BT had with Brawshaw on MMM but he is unbearable on 7.

Richo does add a bit, and I think Ling gives great insight as well. I could easily see Ling being a special comments guy that actually gives the insight a special commentator should.

The good thing is when BT and Darcy get carried away with something that happened 10 minutes ago or may not have happened at all or is not related to the actual football, Richo and Ling bring them back on track pretty quickly.

Without those 2 the Saturday night coverage would be completely unwatchable.

TFS isn't even funny anymore (if it ever was in the first place), and yet it is still probably ten times as funny as BT.

He is painfully bad. Just a sad self-parody.

She isn't actually part of the team. They just plonk her in at half time for 3 minutes with BT and Darce where she says about 5 words

Sam Lane was passable on BTG. Not great, but passable.

Yes, he is. Once a quarter.

I do rate him, he just isn't consistent enough across 4 quarters right now. It is a common theme across a lot of indigenous players TBH.

I know it's going to sound biased considering he was an Essendon champion, but I love Tim Watson's brief commentary stints and opinions. He actually gets on with the game and offers something insightful at every opportunity, which I really appreciate as a viewer and/or listener.

I just get the impression Channel 7 have done it to get some female input to their coverage, nothing more. If someone can tell me what is achieved by adding some random at half time for a couple of minutes to raise 1 point about anything football related, please enlighten me.
