Who missed several of their guns and plaued without a ruckman for 100mins. Most middle range teams would win that game.

I'm sorry I didn't realise that we weren't missing Scotland, Betts, Hampson and Waite? 2nd game under new game plan and we did have two key position forwards whose combined games total would be under 10. Collingwood got most of their goals too easily while Carlton had to work very hard to get theirs. Sorry that I am not kissing Collingwood's ass for their "effort".

Face it, we're just not good enough.

We've been mentally weak for several years.

We have not had a key forward since Fev left.

We leave too much work for to few.

We are a million miles away from a flag and the sooner we address it, accept it and fix it the better.

So much talk and in the end the Carlton Football Club consistently fails to live up to it... It being a genuine top 4 contender.

We've done nothing for over a decade and are no longer a powerhouse.

Sad but true.

-Armfield had a shocker - was fumbly all day, and not his usual self. As disappointed as I was with his performance, I hope he is not dropped for it.
-Laidler looked to second guess himself a bit. Probably the worst game I've seen him play for the Blues. Maybe a symptom of the fact that he doesn't feel he's locked in his place in the best 22 under MM.
-Bell was sloppy, but will be better for it next week.
-Davies is young, but he's not up to it. I've never been a fan. Not sure what his skill set is.
-I thought Boots was actually better than round 1, still not ready for seniors week in week out. But will be a player.
-As a Lucas detractor, I have to admit that I thought he played a decent game, and much better than I expected. He just needs to start holding onto his tackles, and will be a solid replacement for Scotland one day. That said, the crucial contests he lost today, especially the slipped tackles, were massive in us losing the game.
-Kruezer, Hendo, Jamison, Murphy and Robinson were best for mine. All played great games.

They had Lynch who did just fine and their midfielders clearly don't have to rely on a ruck men that much. They're good enough to get there own ball.

Patience is a virtue.

P.S: Scotland, Waite and Betts are hacks as well aren't they? Just as important to us as Ball, Beams and Thomas are to the Pies.

I remember one of those tackles was directly after a horrible Armfield turnover which meant he had to make up about 20 metres to even get a hand on the Collingwood guy, so not entirely his fault that goal.

Was actually impressed that he got there to give a contest in the end instead of not chasing or trying to help out.

What a ridiculous comment. Perhaps Carlton didn't deserve to win because of their lack of accountability in the last quarter. That was a sensational win. If you can't appreciate it go and support another club. As for being very stiff, we had more inside 50's and muffed multiple chances to seal the game long before we did. We lost Jolly in the first 5 minutes and had to restructure our forward line . What game were you watching!o_O
Actually they had more inside 50s
64 - 55
What game were you watching?

Nah, you're overreacting.
We're 2 games in, and I've yet to see anything to suggest that Mick won't make this team great.

I think we should be aiming for top 4, and the umpires, lets be reasonable were pretty pathetic with their calls.
If the ball had of bounced our way last qtr and if we stood up a tad more the result would be a little different.

Reading some of these posts makes me think we suffered a Melbourne-style loss instead of the close game we actually played. It's the most competitive we've looked in a long time, and supporters of our own team are calling our players pathetic? It's a bit hard to take.

Yes, the loss was bitterly disappointing, but I think we need to keep some perspective here.

We had our chances...some shocking mpiring decisions.

I felt if we where close at 3/4 time we'd runaway with it...complete opposite !!!

Really disappointing, our senior players fell away when needed in the last, very poor
We really miss Scotlands composure again in the heat of the battle. The sub needs to be a running player,Mclean is not a sub !!! Bad choice, think Mclean should have played the whole game and Bell sub, was Laidler injured can't work out why he was subbed.
Kreuzer, Rowe, Jeffy, Jammo, Hendo , Murphy where good.

Complete opposite to last year we came out blazing in the first 3 rounds, then fell away, lets hope we turn it around.

Next week out Davies or Bootsma, Casboult, in Hampson & Scotland

Whereis Waite at?

Some people need to take a deep breath on here, bagging young players who are learning is just stupid.

We're not far off but that loss hurt today. With Jolly down and Kreuz back to his barging best we should have come home with the four points.

Puzzling for me:
Playing Brock as the sub - surely we learnt last year that given full game time he will reward you with a 4qtr effort most weeks
Persisting with Boots - just let the kid come along slowly. He has potential but we must be killing his confidence by throwing him in and asking him to sink or swim. We have a deep enough list now that it doesn't need to happen. Let the kid build some confidence by dominating in the twos, bulking up in he weight room and ease him into to against sides that have a younger list
The holding he ball decision - clearly it doesn't matter how many tacklers you take on as long as the ball spills out... If you're first man in and get gang tackled before you've even taken a step you're gone. That Bell free for a goal to them in the first was a disgrace
The lack of composure from our small defenders - Touhy's loss of confidence is alarming. I have been a huge fan but maybe he needs a run on the wing to get out of the heat of the back line
Simmo's beard - gotta go. Sampson in reverse
The form of Carrots and Casboult
Davies - I'd be happy to be proved wrong...

Positives
Jamo!!! Two games against Riewoldt and Cloke without conceding a goal. Welcome back Jamo
Henderson, Yarran, Garlett would have gained a lot of confidence
Kreuze - back to his bullocking best
Contrary to many I thought Lucas showed some good signs today. Yes he missed some crucial tackles but the were enough positives for mine

With Waite, Scotland, Betts, Hampson aback in plus one of Buckley, Menzel or Graham stepping up we'll be taking it up to anyone later this year. Hopefully our early season learning curve won't put us too far behind the pack

I come in peace.

But I do have one burning question.
Given Kreuzer's ruck dominance our mids were always going to shark his hitouts. I thought the Blues centre bounce gameplan was quite simplistic...it was simply punch it forward and hope for the best.
Given Yarran and Garlett's dominance (we have a clear issue with small forwards) getting regular centre breaks would be important in isolating these two up forward? And to do this it would've made sense to have a variety of centre-bounce "plays" with Kreuzer tapping hit outs backwards, sideways, etc instead of just going for the punch straight ahead. Whenever we would get a run-on we always seemed to rove to Kreuzer pretty easily.

Ironically on the few times Lynch fluked a tap out it didn't go to our advantage! Magnificent effort from the QStick nevertheless.
Good luck next week.

FMD...All the murphy bashing out there.. grow up bunch of sooks..

Every one raving about the one hand effort, do you realise he ran 100 metres to present an option and should actually have never got there...Don't let the facts get in the way of a good whine..

Also to those saying Casboult needs to be dropped, who for exactly??? Did anybody note that Nathan Brown who is a very good one on one player had 3 disposals and no marks. Collingwood also had a spare man competing in the air also for most of the day, yet Casboult still managed 6 marks. Not to mention the number of times he got the ball to ground but no mids or wingers front and center.

Casboult has taken the best defender both weeks this season and has been serviceable each time. Give him a break. He might not be elite but atleast he has a crack.

The game was ours to win and we lost it, not the umpires CARLTON.. Unfortunately Collingwoods bottom 6 got them over the line today whilst ours crumbled..Making bulk changes is not the answer.

On a positive note, well done to Jeppy Garlett, was enormous today. Might just be the spark into form he needs...

We lay down like a bunch of girls blouses, ..............................and got smashed.

That last quarter, we copped it.

What's the joke - Do you get a free dinner.............
What garbage.

Great game of footy to watch, just a shame about the end result.

Lot of people on here calling for heads because of two losses, I think mick knows what he is doing. My take on it is mick couldn't give a stuff about this year, this is about re-educating the players on how to play a brand of footy that will win flags, not just blow mediocre footy side out of the water like in previous years.

In a perfect world we would only have to pick 22 players for the whole year, reality is we'll need approx 35-37 players to contribute. A good result for 2013 is the improvement of the entire list, giving some experience to bootsma, casboult and bell will be beneficial come finals time 2014.

Anyway, back to today, would love to see more of hendo up forward, possibly send Waite down back if he can get fit. Really need the likes of Watson, white and McCarthy to stand up in the twos and push for senior selection as well.

Jamieson, unbelievable start to the year, jack 0 goals, cloke 0 goals.

Kreuzer turning in to the player everyone hoped, be great to get a full year out of him.

Garlett looks to have some confidence back, loved his and yarrans game today.

laidler bit down, but lets not forget he has miss 12 months of football, will take him 6-10 weeks to get back into the swing of things.

Gibbs showed some good signs again today, not as good as last week, but really looking forward to see what he can do over the next 3 weeks against cats, eagles and crows.

Bring on the cats next week!

This.
Middle of the road team at best. Seriously suspect back line, front running midfielders and no key forwards. Will be lucky to avoid 0-5 start

Yep you are spot on there, Pies where just cleaner in the last 15 minutes

"We played probably one of the best sides in the competition … they might even be No.1," Malthouse said.

"They were on top of the ladder for a long time last year, they finished fourth and we finished 10th. There's a gap and we've got to close that gap.

"There's no joy in getting beaten by 17 points, but I know we can match it for periods of time with one of the best sides. That's the most encouraging thing about this.

"We will work to lengthen that time, from 10 minutes to 11; from 15 to 20."

Like last week the defence was a shambles. Again, Walker had to go back to clean up. And Walker is not even very good at this.

Bootsma – VFL the entire year please. Anyone can see this. He may be something one day, but now is not his time. 3 touches FFS

Touhy – fumbling all day.

Jamison – brilliant just like last week.

Casboult – Don’t know what people see in him. Has never shown promise

Lucas – I thought he should have been trade bait last year. He has too many faults. Weak over the ball and when tackling.

Rowe – liked his game

1 tackle by Murphy? hmmm
Amazing how different people see the game differently (thank God). You liked Rowe's game but not Lucas's? Mmm...
