AFL Darling Downs - 2013 Season

Big game for us this week coming up against an undefeated side in warwick. Last week was disappointing for us we felt that we didnt play to the standard that we expect of our selves so we will be looking to come out hard against the red backs.

We're going to have to do it with out a few of our better players which will be a good test for the boys who will have to stand up and fill the shoes of Alex Totton who was by far our best player last week and one of our leadership group members, Brad Edwards another one of our leadership group members and another player who has been amongst our bests the first three rounds, Simon Rechner another member of the leadership group who played his first game for the season last week after coming into the side after recovering from a shoulder injury and was one of our best players unfortunately Simon injured his ankle in a marking contest and will again find himself on the side lines along with Kyall Shepherd, Daniel Trace and Jared Knapp who are also unavailable.

It gives opportunities to a few of our fringe players who have just missed out on games the last couple of weeks in Evan Magin, Scott Ingram, Daniel Huskisson and Shaun Cavanagh. we are also fortunate to have available to us four new recruits including an ex 'Kingaroy Bulldog' to boost our depth. we also welcome into the squad two players that have been injured since the pre season in Matt Harris and Josh Arrell along with Ruckman Lucas Walsh and veteran Paul Pressnell.

Our injury list as it stands.
Dylan Bowater - Ankle 4-5 Weeks
Troy Miller - Back Indefinite
Simon Rechner - Ankle 2-3 weeks
Jason Ricketts - Quad 2-3 weeks
Daniel Trace - shoulder 2-3 weeks

This week is really important for us and I Know the boys that take the field will give it a red hot crack.

Injuries make it hard mate, still should be a good contest though. Warwick are super hard to knock off on their own patch so your boys will need to be on from the start. We get to make the trip up to Kingaroy next week, we'll have to catch up for a beer.

They definitely were hard to beat on their home patch, they gave us an absolute flogging. Very disappointing effort by us today. Hopefully we can turn things around and give your side a good contest next week. Definitely will catch up for a beer.

Was good to have a crack over in the west against chinchilla.

For a new club, finding the infrastructure and building a competitive team can be quite hard to achieve, Chinchilla look to have a strong base for years to come!

They were hard at the inside ball, and were able to scrap their way into the game against souths to never let them feel at ease. I predict some happy times at home for the chinchilla suns this season! Obviously the skills and experience will help them in the longer run, and no doubt that will result in a side that can pass through opposition lines as opposed to playing for the next stoppage.

On another note, I enjoyed the ANZAC sentiment shown by the league (and the teams participating), although it was pretty embarrassing when the ode was stuffed up numerous times by the boys in orange. Maybe palm cards would be handy for them next year.

Yeah, I noticed that too, guess we can't expect the umpires to be right ALL the time Beacon. You are spot on about Chinchilla mate, looks like they are finding their feet and were extremely competitive against last years minor premiers, very promising.

Hey guys, just wondering if any of you know a player by the name of Chris Jackson? He used to play in your league and has come down to wagga with some big raps. Wondering if they are warranted?

Yeah mate, he's a gun. Spent the last couple of seasons playing in Melbourne under Chris Johnson, Jacko also played a couple of Indigenous All-Star games at the MCG prior to the Essendon v Richmond Dreamtime clashes, he got BOG in one of them. Athletic ruckman with a basketball background, he can do some pretty freaky stuff.

Is anyone able to shed any light on the coolaroo "controversy"? I hear they had their half time score wiped as a result of having to many players on the field in the first half. True or false?

True and false Saint. From what I can gather Coolaroo had a player yellow carded and he left the field but not through the interchange area meaning he could take no further part in the game. Coolaroo should have been able to replace him straight away but the umpires (incorrectly) told them they couldn't and were reduced to 17 on the field. Dalby called for a head count in the final quarter when they realized Coolaroo had 18 on the field and the umpires wiped Coolaroo's points. A few phone calls were made on the run and the points were reinstated and Coolaroo finished the match with 18 on the field. Quite a debacle.

Solid effort from the saints today against a quality side... Tigers didnt give us the respect we and all teams deserve and consequently nearly coughed up the game. We gave them a real big fright... at the end of the day it was a fantastic game from us but realistically we've still got to do alot of work on our running game.
