A swap of our first round pick (5?) and there's (1?) and there mid first round pick. Only if they had 1st pick mind you.

There is no doubt we need a key forward. I haven't followed him closely, but if Watts can turn it around, I would not hesitate trading our first pick to Melbourne for him. IF we are in a position to nab Boyd, who would be the better choice - Watts or Boyd?

Watts will be in a better age bracket. When the majority of our midfielders hit their peak in 3 years time, Watts will only be in 25 and will also have the best days ahead of him. If we grab Boyd, it is unrealistic to expect him impacting games in three years time.

I'd only swap Luey for the complete works of Francis Pryor on the condition they are all hard bound in fair calf leather, gold blocked and personally signed by the great man himself.

Seriously do some of you not watch him? He is a a gnats away from Elite. I let a lot of this chat go most of the time but if the club even considered trading him for a couple of untried draft picks (with whom we would be guaranteed nothing) without putting up a fight would reek of stupidity. The bloke should be one of our better payed players next contact.

Watts is a spud #1 pick in the Josh Fraser bracket. Boyd is a monster, elite written all over him.

Watts I

You do realize that watts has been so poor up forward that he has been written in that role for melb and has been so poor down back that he has been dropped altogether. This is for the worst team in the competition. Fair to say he is now worth a lot less than a top 10 pick.

GWS have two players uncontracted end of this season. Nick Haynes (193cm, HF/wing) and Taylor Adams (179cm, 84kgs, inside mid).

I must confess that I haven't seen much footage of GWS. Any of those guys a good fit for the Lions?

I would imagine that an inside mid is high on our shopping list, and we can always find room for a tall winger/forward with nice skills.
I would love Taylor Adams. He is a good inside player and would add quite a lot when Black retires and as Moloney gets older.

IIRC we rated Haynes quite highly in 2011 I think 7th. Pass for me though. Lester and Karnezis are quite good.

Like I said I haven't followed him at all. So I'm happy to be corrected.

Agree wholeheartedly about Watts, but this is the sort of comment that could prove embarrassing later in the year. Even sooner if we lose this weekend.

Can we keep this discussion draft focused please folks?

If someone wants to start a 2013 trade discussion thread, then go for it. I can't bring myself to do it in April though.

If we could get him on the cheap, I have faith that he could be recycled into SOMETHING of use. Not saying he will be the second messiah, but I believe he could be a solid provider. Definitely have holes to fill in the backline, as well as the forward line.

I dare say a few other clubs haven't forgotten Watts' form as a kid (and being a no.1 pick). I reckon if he is out of a team end of the season, there could be a few vultures circling.

What will be interesting is the kind of offers coming in for him, given his poor AFL form.

This is an amazing piece of spin. I love how they're selling the academies as a good thing for non-Qld clubs because it happens to coincide with the removal of the Qld zone for the Gold Coast, so in theory all these clubs can have access to these players (barely a handful of which were drafted each year) or we have to pay a fair price via father/son-style bidding... except we never had access to a zone before and the Gold Coast has only had a zone for three (?) years. It's favourable spin, but my, what spin.

There is not that bigger difference btw Tickner and Conway. Would be leaning to Conway in terms of all round game skills and value to the club though

Who is the second best kpf in the draft and how good is he compared to boyd? I doubt we'd have the pick low enough to get boyd.

Probably Cameron Conlon.

Here is Knightmare's synopsis from his phantom draft.

Not quite the pure forward that Boyd is... so not sure how he would fit alongside the Leuenberger/Longer dynamic.

#6 Brisbane - Cameron Conlon (VIC – KPF/Ruck)
Height: 197cm, Weight: 90kg, DOB:
Recruited from: Northern Knights
Style:
Player comparison: Nathan Vardy
Range: 5-20
Profile: Real talent as a key forward and has the ability to really develop into something at the next level. Has a really nice leap on him but also some real contested marking ability. Very accurate shot on goal both from field kicks and set shot attempts. Capable through the ruck and with his leap might be a no.2 ruck type option but I see him best utilised as a key forward.

After the last couple of years, I am very cautious to put too much stock in draft rankings before the champs, particularly of the big blokes. Guys like Elton and Shaw went into the champs with big reputations, didn't dominate and then were on a fast slide for the rest of the year. Meanwhile, someone like Jaksch goes from 2nd round calcs up into the top 12.

So while there are only a couple of names on the table right now in terms of KPPs, there's some chance that will change come July/August and then obviously again as the draft approaches.
