Autopsy Rd 11 Vent thread Carlton vs ... some team

You guys know what it REALLY comes down to?

We are totally incapable of winning these "crunch" games. It has been happening for years.

Just in the last 12 months...the Gold Coast game, i mean all we had to do was get 4 points and probably play finals. Then it was the Saints this year, they are terrible, we needed 4 points to lock into the 8. Now the bombers, reallly needed the 4 points to jump them on the ladder and get a good start on a tough run on matches.

All these have a similar thread, pressure. Pressure both going into the game and pressure within the game. I can take a loss and a game is just that, a game....but Iv just been so upset lately because we only seem to lose the truely important ones.

Can people please stop posting garbage like "you dont see Sydney, Geelong, Hawthorn give up leads". You guys have memories like goldfish. Sydney lead Freo by 4 goals with less than 10 minutes to play and drew....total choke....and that was only a few weeks ago. Hawthorn lead by 3 goals with 10 mins left in last years GF and lost. Fade outs and comebacks happen to all teams. It's all about how many close games you win or lose and this year we've lost all the close ones. It's a learning experience and once we starting winning the close one's it'll turn around very quickly.

Nah. How many years does it take to develop? We've been in this mode since 2008.

We're simply not good enough.

What I want to know is, after reading some of our more... how can I put it nicely... crayfish supporters comments, I am left wondering why the **** you even support Carlton?

Why the **** did you even start supporting Carlton? Could it come from the fact that at certain times, we were solely the most successful club in the country? Or were you cozened into it through peer pressure? Did your family support the club and therefore you felt obliged to also support the club.

I dont know what you expect from the club or is it a cult of instant gratification... we get in a premiership winning top draw coach and instantly our club is supposed to have transformed into a lean mean killing machine chewing up the opposition and farting fire. I do know that a lot of you wouldnt look out of place wearing yellow and black because as soon as we lose, we turn on our own and pick on one single player to lay all the blame on... not even stopping to think that this is a team sport and the whole team screwed up.

And then we have the self righteous indignant tossers... you know who you are... who disagree with the club taking a stand and sacking the previous coach and getting in a new one who is supposed to be the one to take us to the promised land. I dont agree with the way that Ratts was treated at the end of last season... but thats last ******* season... thats one ******* person... we have sacked favourite sons before and while there was always a bit of an outcry, once the dust had settled... it was business as usual. But some of you are taking it to the extreme. Why hurt the club because you are pissed off with the way some of our benefactors acted. If you hate those benefactors so much, write them a ******* letter... dont write to the club and bitch about it... write to the people who pissed you off.

And now... as for the coaching. Mick isnt infallible... he doesnt have all the answers. How do you stop an opposition who have made up their mind that every time you get the ball, they are just going to run most of their team into your half of the ground and reduce the free space your forwards need to work in to zip. You cant... all you can do is try and work the ball around the edges until space opens up and use it... and hope that no one stuffs up and allows a turnover.

The players we have at the moment have had 5 years of learning pace at all costs and we dont really know how to slow things down properly and control the tempo of the game... the players suck at it and it is the job of the coach to teach them how to do it. It isnt going to happen overnight. In fact it might not even happen next year. But the boys will learn it and we will be the better for it.

Also... players make ******* MISTAKES... every single ******* one of them does it. But some of you are so fixated on certain players that as soon as they do something wrong, it's instantly magnified and turned into a hanging offence. Players have bad patches in games or even in several games... remember last year when Garlett couldnt even buy a goal. The same people knocking Garlett then are the same ones knocking Lucas now. I know that he is loving his time at the club, but at the end of the year when he is out of contract, I hope he tells the club he wants to go home because certain segments of our support base are useless Moos. And guess what... I wouldnt blame him in the slightest. He was in scintillating form in his first year and then he got hurt. Through mismanagement of his injury, he spent the next 2 years out injured. And now he is starting to string games together and is starting to get the experience he needs not to make the dumb mistakes he is making now, you are abusing him.

So we lost yesterday to the scum... so what... If Garletts goal had been reviewed scores would have been level. If Army had handballed over to Lucas who was on in front of goal, if Judd hadnt missed when we were 5 goals up... if my Aunty had a dick she would be my uncle.

The TEAM screwed up yesterday... Betts... 4 touches all game... Garlett barely sighted for the whole game... Robbo... did a reasonable job, but barely sighted also.

But thats just us... weak and soft and unable to control a game... well one of those things are right. I would love to see any of you armchair warriors get out there and play AFL at the highest level... it's a tough game but the only thing right in that statement is that we are unable to control a game. The coach prior to Ratts started the rebuild after the AFL shafted us. We went through some massive list changes in the first couple of years (I think that the figure is something like 29 or 39 players). He was working with some reasonable players and a lot of journeymen players for the first 3 years until we started getting in the #1 picks and we got Judd. But he didnt teach the boys how to control a game because we were getting our arses handed to us virtually week in and week out.

Ratten... good new coach. Continued the rebuild and got us playing finals... got us playing high tempo football and running around the opposition. Great tactic until teams started flooding back into our defence and cutting off the space. We didnt learn how to control the tempo of a game like the great modern sides can. Every time we tried to control the tempo... holding the ball in the air... we screwed up and turned it over and it cost us red time goals... virtually every time.

And now we have Mick... who is still working through the list evaluating who we have here who is worth keeping. I think that he has a fair idea of who to keep and who to get rid of at years end but he needs to evaluate them and reassess them based on real game time. I can see the speed of the team dropping at the end of the year. I can see 1... maybe 2 of our rucks being traded out because they are surplus to requirements. I can see a bunch of our second string midfielders disappearing into the wind.

I can tell you now that Bell is raw but he has talent and he will be staying. Curnow might be gone... McLean is having his best year ever. Ellard... much as I love him as a player, will be gone as well... Joseph... gone (sorry Mr Carlton but you knew he is on borrowed time). Lucas will be staying... he has just too much class and talent to let slide away despite what some people think. Cachia... will get promoted I reckon... he is performing above and beyond his rookie status and deserves the elevation. Army... staying... he is a pure workhorse and is mint in our future style of play.

We are going to turn into a team with a bit of pace but we are not going to be as quick as we appear to be now.

So... once again... you tossers who are out there bagging the club you purport to support and the players who pull on the old dark navy... ask yourself why you are supporting Carlton. If you cant say that you support the navy blue because once Mick really puts a stamp on the team there is going to be some real success in front of us... then ask yourself why you want to continue supporting Carlton because this year was always going to be a transitional one... going from the playing style of one coach to another.

And if you dont want to wait for the success, which is coming... go support Richmond... arent they supposed to be favourites for the flag this year.

Good post but seriously.... If he can't handle mostly constructive criticism from the supporters then he needs to toughen the hell up!!!

It wasn't his fault we lost but gees, I could've kicked that goal last night!!

He's had good and bad patches this season and has some things to work on. I know your comment was probably tongue in cheek but in case it wasn't, if he can't handle constructive criticism then go home.

After all the emotion goes away and you realize its just one game, you remember how much better it is being a Carlton supporter than any other team. I hate that we lose these games more than anyone, but we have a lot to like and surely will only get better with Micks vision slowly being implemented into the team. And although we are 6-5 I still have confidence in us to win every time we play, something I didn't have 2, 3, 4, 5 years ago.

They didn't win the game, we lost it and they know it.

Whitey was never going to kick that goal. He can't kick that far accurately and consistently. Too much of a risk, should have realised his own abilities and looked at other options.

With the umpiring, I think there was a few missed calls but like most are saying, it went both ways. It only stands out to be against our side as we're a bit bias.

There just weren't any options i50 for a long time in the first quarter and it happened again in the 4th term. I don't know if it was their structure or ours. From where I was sitting, it looked a lot like ours. We generally had an extra man back on the defensive but when the ball was turned over, we didn't have enough run to turn the structure the other way and there was nobody to kick to. It would usually end up bombing to Waite who was then on a two on one because our loose man was still at the wrong end of the ground.

I still can't understand how the hell Eddie had such a bad game, he should have been running rings around Fletcher. When was the last time Eddie only had 6 touches in a full game?

Hope so but can't see it happening, Hawks will target our 'soft' players and put them off their game, we will be playing 4 or 5 short, hard to win a game like that.

It's not Supercoach. None of our players have byes ;)

We could have and should have won that game. It always hurts losing to the Forces of Darkness. But blaming individual players or individual acts will only frustrate us more.

Some people have placed too much weight on Kane Lucas' shoulders. He is what 22 years old and played 28 games? His development was poor. He is now getting consistent development under Mick. We need to be looking ahead and not just planning for the next five minutes. We need to find replacements/backup for players for linkage players like Scotland and Simpson. We need to get AFL games into players like Lucas now. We should be patient and get the rewards when he has 50+ games up.

In previous weeks Jeffy has kicked three or four goals. Last night he kicked 2 points. But we persist with him and not blame him as an individual for the loss.

It's a team game and as a team we could have and should have put our foot on their throat in Q3. But as a team didn't. As Mrs EB has said, many of our front line players missed gettable shots on goal. As we become more match-hardened we will win these close contests. As a team we will do better at controlling the tempo of the game as Geelong have developed over the years.

We are not getting blown away by opponents when we fall behind like in previous years. The difference between our good and bad performances is narrowing.

As Harker has said, we are putting in place what we need as a successful team. When we trade in another A grader at the end of the year, and continue to develop our young guns into hardened AFL players then we will win more of these close games than we lose.

Malthouse is onto it. He knows what needs to be done. It's the first time in years that I've really felt that. Listen to his post-match presser and you will feel better.

Hard loss to cop but we are in safe hands.

Stayed up till 9am in Washington, DC, skyping my dear sister who put the camera on the telly for me - wish i'd just gone to bed. That reasonable lead of 31pts always worried me. In low-scoring contests it looks like a massive margin and provides a false sense of security. Seen it happen many times over the years.

Learn and grow Blues.

Still feeling quite depressed, I was so confident at half time as we were running all over them and smashing the stoppages.

Waite was just ******* incredible, everyone says we don't have a true KPF well we do, he just needs to cut out the brainfaids. Casboult just signed Hampsons exit papers as well.

Honestly don't know what to think, the Lucas miss, McLeans drop when he would have hand passed off to a running Simpson for a goal the could haves, should haves. Massive test now for Mick, mentally the boys ned to be repaired as that is a season defining loss and we face a punishing team next week.

But **** I hate the scum. And screw you Walls, you write one more ******* article pumping up Carlton before a big game, well I'm not responsible for my actions :p

:thumbsu: agree 100%

Nasty loss - for mine it was obvious we ran out of legs in the fourth quarter and couldn't get our hands on the ball or control the ball when we did. Inexplicable sub choice in Yarran for mine as well as Robbo being subbed - which meant we were playing with one hard body less than needed for final quarter. they lifted we sunk - simple as that. The good things to come out of the game for me was the performances of Casboult ( yeah he can take contested marks) Cachia ( again) Curnow ( again) Henderson, Waite ( of course) and Murphy who actually played a blinder.

Feel sorry for Lucas with that silly miss and it is now obvious to all that Juddy is well passed his prime as far as kicking running goals go. Kreuze dominated Ryder for most of the match - but not in the final quarter when Levi had to do too much ruck work for mine.

Essendon should never have been able to come back into the match - this has happenned now too often this year - but maybe Carlton had no right to take 7 goals from Waite for granted either - truth is our lack of true second tall means that Carlton can get shut down too easily by teams flooding and covering the smalls. Have said it before will say it again - we are one tall down back short and one tall down forward short of being a contender.

Disappointing loss - not the end of the world - this is a development year.

Is our season floating down shit creek?

Ohh my god... ****... it's only round 11 and our season is screwed so I might as well not watch any more because we are currently sitting 6 and 5 and even if we lose 1-2 of the next 3 games and with the run we have home... we have absolutely no chance of making the finals...

shit... if we come home 6-5 for the second half... 12 wins... could be enough to get us into the finals in 8th... which isnt to bad considering where we are coming from with a new coach who is evaluating our entire list during this season to see what sort of cattle he has to work with to mount a premiership challenge over the next 1-2 years.

But no... our season is screwed... lets call it a day and start delisting our players now because we are so ******* hopeless that even GC17 is sure to beat us in the second half of the season.
Long-winded way to agree with me. My idea of our season being alive is the time we spend as a premiership contender. That's the time we spend as a top four chance. That's gone now. Sure we can try new players, new positions and develop but as far as the real stuff is concerned we are done.

I'm well aware that he shanked it. My point is, however, that you cannot put the entire blame on his shoulders. It's just not fair. We had many opportunities to put them away tonight and we wasted them. Lucas' missed shot on goal is but one example.
So true. This loss was definitely a team effort. To blame just one player is incomprehensible.

That's just plain woeful.

We're 6 and 5, new coach, new players, new things, we've been beaten in the last minute by our eternal nemesis, who quite frankly are a very good team. We learn from this and look forward to the Hawthorn game.

Always have faith.

Am I silly to have switched on SEN to listen to Crunch Time??

Glutton for punishment I guess.

Heard about ten seconds of Mick's presser and liked what I hear :thumbsu:

Said it's his job now to see who will stand up under pressure.

No NO no! they let too many frees go in the 50 that should be paid. plus shouldn't White have been kicking from inside 50 as the 50m against the scum was 5m inside the square. The thing that hurts even more with this loss is letting Jake F$cking Melksham look like a hero with 3 goals including the sealer:( he is a squealing little bitch.
Doubt I've seen a better umpired game. Absolutely brilliant effort by the umps. Looks like they've told KB and his cronies to **** off wrecking the game. Top effort last night. :thumbsu:
