well, the decision would have been months in the pipeline.

but before Evans knew that Essendon were up shit creek. he would have know windy hill smells like a werribee stench in the 80s, and then he would have either put himself foraward, or had someone recommend his social climbing ways to the poh leece,

If you like this next statement or not I don't care but it is the truth. If the club was handed crippling sanctions similar to Carlton the only person who would turn the club around the quickest would be Hird due to his support. I believe since he was happy to coach during the good days (winning a lot of games) he should be made to rectify the problem and face the brunt. disagree, if hird did walk out opposition supporters would understand the difficulties to rebuild the club while he remained there. whether or not he is capable of rebuilding the club isn't of any relevance. more likely to hang it on him for ruining the club per se. as for leaving someone else to clean it up - he would no longer be in a position to be employed to clean it up.

in any case, if what you said turned out to be true i think the same could be said of essendon supporters. what would they do if hird packed up shop? now they might claim he is a victim, he does it later on will they claim he's jumping ship, or will they say he doesn't belong at the club in any capacity?

Yes I do. Clearly this is a highly emotive issue for Essendon fans so I can understand some of the irrational posting. However it is a bit much to try and listen to crys of sympathy for a high powered executive who has been in football his whole life, like he is a defenceless victim in all this.

He is leaving to protect his business interests (which is entirely reasonable, especially if you work for him) as much as anything.

What bearing should opposition supporters opinion have to do on which person coach's a rivals club after the dust has settled in this saga?

What because a random Hawks supporter doesn't wants a certain person to coach even though he would be still the best candidate to guide the club through the tough times because he has full support from every department.

Yes its always a sad day when those weighed down with guilt begin to fall prey to their impending doom.

I'm feeling the same as many others i imagine.

The obvious and temporary clouds of deniability they reached for at the beginning, has well and truly lifted over the Essendon Football Club...and been replaced by a rapidly descending and inevitable miasma that will choke and finish off the guilty that remain.

Its times like this we also see some of footballs truly great emotional and solemn moments. The "one big happy family" line is one the most abused charades that gets wheeled out in times of strife...this notion that a borderline back pocket could somehow be "shattered" at such a "tragic loss"....or a bloke just traded in would mourn this loss as a "tragedy" or " losing a man of integrity" and act so solemn is always funny to see. It truly is a time to mourn such a dearly departed dignified soul, and man that has such universal and enormous undying respect.

Lets face it...as a player noone really gives a rats arse about the chairman when you may even lose your entire football career in just a cpl of weeks time. As an official it really just boils down to "better him than me" coz your career and name is on the line too. A few crocodile tears is about all we can usually consume whilst holding back the vomit, but please spare us the whole "Essendon family mourns loss" line...we've all heard and felt those truly sincere and heartfelt strings being tugged at before.

They started by circling the wagons, but i'm afraid General Custer is only holding out for a miracle now.

Seems increasingly likely that all the initial attempts to make a "dingo ate my bayyybee" defence are well gone. Just a bit more blame game and buck passing left to go before the hammer falls.

What on earth are you on about Jobe?

This site is full of opinions on what should happen in all aspects of football.

Very few, if any, of which have any bearing on what actually happens. What makes you think otherwise?

My view on this particular matter for instance is that all involved in organizing or overseeing this debacle should go. That doesn't mean that I expect Essendon to consider that view.

People are just offering opinions here.

So, if you want to test which one it should be, try saying it like...'you are kidding me!!'. Then you'll see that 'your a disgrace' is indeed incorrect, and should be 'you are a disgrace, or shortened to you're a disgrace.

The connections with Hirdy(allegedly) run deep. he's in this up to his orange neck. Not just him though. Yes, it is awful to suffer for the wrongs you have committed. I feel the empathy I feel for any human being who f*%#'s up. After all, we all do. However, as we all know, there are consequences to actions. Your club has tried to get a leg up on all the other clubs, to fly too close to the sun. Like Icarus, you are descending fast.
