Key Forward

Like last year with Pearce, I can't see the club publically declaring their hand in the media about which players they are after. Not many knew the club was after Pearce until he was signed and wouldn't be surprised if its the same this year unless they are like White and not on a free agency list..

The thing is can Ross lie and say we aren't looking at him. People asked last year whether wanted outside run Ross said yes, no one asked whether we wanted Pearce. We're desperate now and everyone knows it meaning everyone in the AFL will see their key forwards as an option for us anyway. Anything Ross says about not wanting a key forward won't be believed. Other clubs will try and bend us over at the trade table. However we have the salary cap space not to mention the out of contract status of White and Gumbleton giving us some power on the trade table.

Are there any key forwards on a free agency list?

haha the article is a bunch of afl journalism wank anyway. They wrote a whole article off a half liner from ross stating that everyone's after white.

That being said i'd be surprised if come trade time there wasn't the same wank for three weeks of us trying to get a deal done with White/Sydney - whether or not there's any truth to it.

Edit: Thinking about it we might be in an advantageous decision to declare our interest in white - to Jesse himself anyway. Could make it tougher for sydney to lock him down if he knows we're in the hunt, right?

The club will be cooking something..

Bloody essendon. You can't believe what they are saying on their trade thread.

They are saying pick 20 for gumbleton is a fair trade. They demand our 1st round pick for Gumbleton. They Also think Carlton, Collingwood, Richmond, Western Bulldogs, Gold Coast, GWS and Brisbane will be after him!!!

They can't be held accountable for living outside reality can they?

Perhaps you shouldn't be suggesting we would let him go for a fourth rounder, then.

They don't think highly of us, They think its 1994-2006 all over again in which freo would easily give up our 1st round picks. Imagine if they had Zac Dawson in their squad and they offered to trade him.

I said that. I said 3rd or 4th rounder and they are talking him up. They said that 4 other clubs are after him. One person claimed that Gumbleton and Jobe Watson are best mates and both live in the same house.

They think that all their players are worthy of 1st round picks.

He claimed it because it's true.

No, we don't. Not even all the Carlton supporters on BF think that about their own players.

I didn't say we would. I would not be totally surprised if we managed to get a late 1st rounder for him, were we to trade him, but a second rounder seems fairly obvious.

Not that I think he'll be leaving the club anyway.
Yes he will. Delisted; Finished. No one will touch him. Happy to bet any amount of money you care to name he is not traded for a first or second rounder.

a first rounder is a bit rich but a few of those clubs will be after him. the dogs tried to sign gumby last year. if he stays injury free the rest of the year, there'll be a few clubs sniffing around.

I agree with that.

Still see him as a second rounder. Wellingham was a first rounder and he played every week in a top 8 team before that trade.

Gumby, not so much.

On talent I can see Gumby being a second rounder. But his injury history makes it pretty risky that we could just end up burning the pick.

Jesse White mightn't be as talented a forward as Gumby, but at least he's been pretty durable. I'd be happier to lose our second rounder for White than I would for Gumby.

Just a left field hypothetical, but what about Zac Clarke + Tom Sheridan + 1st round draft pick for Jesse Hogan before he makes his AFL debut? 3 potential starting 22 players for a club that pretty much need a whole new squad & already have tall fwd depth. I know Melbourne are supposedly hoping Jesse can be their future franchise player, but the guy hasn't kicked a ball yet. Unders or overs?

I've heard Peter Bell mention hogan twice on 6pr as a potential recruit, not that it means all that much.

They will never trade him. Even if we offered Fyfe they wouldn't.

Pretty much agree. Best bet would be to send him Christmas cards and give him a call every month or two for the next two years, in the hope that he'll walk when his first contract is up... and that he doesn't sign an extension right off the bat like O'Meara and Martin.

If they got Boyd with a priority pick, that would leave them Dawes, Watts, Boyd, Clarke, Gawn as Ruck\Forwards with out Hogan.

I could see a good list manager realising they have too many forwards and not enough mid's and consider trading one for a good offer.

More than likely we would have to offer up 2 good young mid's and a 1st round draft pick, but I dont believe he is un gettable.

Would Michie, Crozier or Mello plus our 1st round draft pick get close?

The fact that I am reluctant to trade 3 potential great players suggests it cant be too far away. Maybe Bond and Lloyd could throw in our list of the best 10 players of the draft so Melbourne can pick the right person.
