AFL Live 2

I had to stop here.

Straight up, Big Ant wouldn't have released the game in the state that it is in. It's as simple as that.
Yet they released AFL Live 1 with season mode freezes, team selections would reset when games started and Jack Darling was named Jeff Darling, but no, Big Ant wouldn't let anything bad happen to anyone or anything ever. :thumbsu:

AFL Live 2 is flawed, very flawed, but let's not pretend that AFL Live 1 wasn't as well just because of the circumstances regarding the developer.

People have a right to complain and question about a product they have bought. From the sounds of it it deserves the criticism. Shouldn't really sicken you at all.
I never said people didn't have a right to question about the game that I think just needs a polish and bug fix patch. That should make everyone happy.

Am I the only one who has actually got the hang of the set shot goalkicking? Because most seem to be saying it is completely useless and doesn't work? Already I am pretty consistently able to get set shots from 40+ metres. And I have to agree with everyone that legend is pretty much completely unplayable. However, I have been finding hard to be quite fun in that I don't easily beat the crap out of them like on legend in AFL Live 1, or when playing medium on AFL Live 2, but I still have to really fight to win. Most of the time anyway.

But so far, having now started my first AFL season in Career manager after playing in the TAC cup, I am finding AFL Live 2 quite fun, but like AFL Live 1 in the beginning, quite frustrating at times. The main issue I am experiencing though, is the ridiculous frequency of free kicks for the AI team, regardless of difficulty levels. Most time I will find that just to half time they could be leading the free kick count by as much 12-2, and that's with 2.5 minute quarters.

Didn't really bother with the draft, just kinda screwed with Collingwoods list. Since I didn't get an offer to play with Carlton, I went with Collingwood and am considering just driving them into the ground for the fun of it.

But my general view of the game is that once you start to get the hang of it, it can be quite fun. I definitely have no plans whatsoever to get a refund for it. Unfortunately, I seem to be in the vast minority with my views on it. And I rather like how they have changed breaking tackles. You're guaranteed to succeed, but it drains about a 5th of your stamina.

It only took me two games to get the hang of set shots.

The secret for people still struggling with the set shots is to watch the blue bar above the player's name, after pulling the stick back you have to push the stick forward before it fills and turns red, it's the same with the field kicking, once it turns red the kick will always be horrible.

That being said though once you're past 40 metres or so, the line is far far too fine between hitting the sweet spot and the bar turning red.

This game is ridiculous. Feel's like an old arcade AFL game for the 64 (at a time where anything was better than the nothing we previously had). AFL LIVE kicks the second out of the water, and completely blows it away. I played two games, on the shortest quarter length, and I couldn't handle it. Even at quarter time etc, the way to look at stats is really silly. You gotta go through and sort it out yourself, top disposal getters should already be there (at the top). Another thing, is of coarse the set-shots. Many people have mentioned it before me, so I won't go into too much detail on it, but the entire system for the set-shot is completely ****ed. You always shank them, or fail to make the distance. That ruins it. I don't want to be forced to play on just to have a chance at kicking a goal. I want to be able to line up with confidence and have a real ping at the goals. This game, dis-allows it. I'm going back to AFL LIVE, and I'm staying there. I might even throw AFL LIVE 2 onto ebay for a couple of days, starting at 0.99 cents. I'd practically give it away and I wouldn't miss it. (only because I ordered it online, and I can't be bothered going through whatever it takes to receive the refund. lol)

Just watching one of the review vids and if i'm not mistaken it seems like you can adjust your team lineup while searching for an online game, if so that's bloody brilliant.

We fixed both of those pretty damned quick too and had we known we would not have had it released until they were fixed.

I agree, I can still remember back when Live 1 was released there was page after page of

"this game is horrible", "it's broken", "I took it back to EB", "Don't buy it"

Not true. Waited for the commentators to finish and then instead of the Richmond song one of the menu songs comes on

That's really weird, because at the end of every game I've played where I have actually let the commentators finish, Carlton's club song has played and, I'm pretty sure, even looped a couple of times.

Also, I just figured out I can play custom music on the PS3 version while playing it. Enjoying it just that bit more now that I have found that out.

Maybe they don't have the licence to use the Richmond song???

Same songs as were in the Wii and AFL Live versions, played by the "Army Band" and are not the ones played at the grounds before and after matches.

Do you have any idea why they would have left the Richmond song out?

Could also just be a bug

You're also putting words into people's mouths now.

But while we're at it, you did say this about AFL Live:
Wow.

The game smashes every other AFL game out of the ball part. It has a perfectly fine season mode post patch.
So where do you think this one stands in terms of AFL games? Would it be safe to say if it's behind AFL Live in your opinion (or hell, if anyone deems it as such) people would have a right to be annoyed?

Now, I'm not going to comment on the quality of this game. But I would think, those issues you mentioned don't have much of an affect on how the game plays. But from what people have been mentioning about AFL Live 2, those issues would.

And again, nobody has come out and said AFL Live was perfect. You seem to be insinuating it, wrongly.

I've always thought AFL games have under used their commentary talents in terms of marketing. Surely at the least a simple plug for the game wouldn't have been too hard on tonights Friday night footy where Dennis and Tom are together.

Think we might have a bit of a case of Shane Warne cricket 99-itis with all this.

Even when it came out it was frustrating as hell to play and riddled with bugs, yet it had certain intricacies that have stood the test of time and even been exemplified and amplified by the fact that subsequent iterations of cricket games have all be so void of character and generally completely shit.

In time, people might look back at AFL live 1 like this too.

I think that the people that don't like this game should make a game themselves. I know WW and TB are developing companies but seeing all the criticism on this game sickens me. I like the game but I want a patch to come out fast to fix everything that's wrong.
So we're not allowed to criticize anything unless we can do better? Shit, I hope you've never ever had a go at an AFL player for making a mistake then until you've played as many AFL games as he has.

Great post. It seems the 2 lovers always revert back to "AFL1 had flaws too!" No shit it has flaws. GTAIV has flaws too. Doesn't mean they're not still the top games in their class.

Was shopping tonight and saw EB had released it. Picked it up and all i can say is i am furious. I played till i refused to swallow no more. Then i jumped on here and went back 20 pages. I knew i couldn't be the only one who felt this way.

I have been a gamer since the Atari2600. I've had everything from a commodore, neo geo, saturn....etc etc so when it comes to gaming, i am qualified to say the state in which this game was shipped is a disgrace.

The AFL have always been careful to protect their brand and i would seriously question whether they would be happy with how the majority of people are feeling about this licensed product.

While i had issues with AFL Live i saw promise and happily supported both the original copy and DLC.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the handballing and tackling but couldn't believe how responsive kicking was and how intelligent the AI was.

It was also hollow in terms of modes and so on but what they had delivered was a solid foundation with which they had built our trust for improvement down the track.

Then we get this slap in the face by Tru Blu.

The fact the developer isn't on the product should be evidence enough that TruBlu knew how we felt about the pieces of shit that were the Wii and PSP versions.

Clearly they were comfortable with WW offering up another piece of cash grabbing garbage with no thought to consumers or the brand they were representing.

I'm not going to bother going into depth with the issues i have with AFL Live 2 but i will say this.

Don't accept mediocrity just because you crave an AFL game so badly.

If Tru Blu have any friggin sense they will work out whatever issues they have with BigAnt and get a quality game back on track.

I am a member of IGN and GameSpot and i can assure you i will be warning other gamers to avoid this like the plague.

I love all games and all consoles and judge games on how they play and how much i can play them. I hold no vendetta against COD, EA, XBOX, WiiU etc etc

I base my judgements on what i am being offered and this was disgraceful.

For those who think if you don't support this game you won't see another AFL game.... BULLSHIT.

AFL games have struggled to sell in the past some years and yet they still get made every few years.

The video game industry is a billion dollar industry people, the AFL will always explore getting a tiny slice of that pie. Now and for fricken ever.

As a consumer the only way you get the change you want is to refuse to buy the product they offer.

Just look at MICROSOFT.

Screwed up at E3. People refused to pre order their product and they give Sony a leg up and unlimited fan boy publicity.

Now?

Complete reversal on all policies and they are giving away fifa14 for free.

Whats my point?

Don't accept an inferior product out of fear it's all you will get.

Your wallets do the talking. Always have, always will.
