Matthew Lloyd: “It’d be the worst move (GWS) could do to take him, who can control him?"

I dunno Lloydy. We've got this bloke managing player welfare who played 123 games in the Richmond #4. I'd back him in if the club decided to offer Martin a contract.

Melbourne will come at him (Martin) with a big offer as well. Reports are they are waiting on a response from his management.

You'll need a top 10 pick to get it done.

*shrug* The issue with Martin is the personal terms.

If we want to match it, then we can get him in the PSD.

If we dont, then we wont.

But with his baggage he isnt worth *both* his ~600k personal terms and draft currency.

I don't think the Giants first move would be the threat of the PSD. It would no doubt linger over any negotiations though.

I think we'd be amicable in any dealings but not to the point where we're offering pick 1 or multiple assets. I don't think SOS wants him that badly.

In any case, Martin himself has made a statement on twitter that he hasn't left Richmond and has simply asked for more time to consider his options.

I hope so!

If Martin wants to go to GWS, we're in an awful position. In pure market terms he is worth pick 1 but with his baggage and the PSD lingering over negotiations I'm just hoping for anything.

Have to say given what good mates Martin is with Fisher our pursuit of Fisher makes a little more sense.

IMO Martin is worth more than pick one seriously, remember Boyd is really pick 3. The Omeara mini draft pick would have been closer. If RFC can save face and end up with pick 1 that would save some face for us:oops: of it occurs. Maybe some other trades occur later down the track like Adams etc.. that would make things more amicable..

So, given that Martin can nominate for the PSD and automatically go to GWS, explain to me again why GWS will *give* pick one to Richmond.

As Ian has pointed to the fact that Martin we can get him via the psd you could actually have a situation where we go take our 2nd rounder for him or we will just grab him for free in the psd so in other words you have absolutely no chance of getting pick 1.

Thats fine but we then trade all our players away and play a scorched earth policy because playing no-mans land will not attract the fans anymore unless we do a full rebuild to create the hope to sustain fans belief. Supporters can force clubs hands by pulling foxtel subscriptions and game day purchases etc.. keeping it to free to air

Your boss AFL HQ will not like that if it affects executive revenue and overall AFL receipts.

you guys are better off pumping money into Roberston Oval frankly and developing a profitable sport product!

Then I guess refusing to offer Martin a four year deal was pretty darn stupid.

And Im still trying to see a reason why GWS should bend itself over to benefit Richmond.

What the hell do they put in the water in Richmond? Do they have schools there? What has happened? We should send in World Vision, maybe do a fundraiser for the people of Richmond? Well, I guess the NDIS will cover them soon enough.

Bit left of field here but cox is still available as a FA, played every game this year I think and wants to play on. He could play a Hudson/brogan role for us. Also the Geelong FA contingent of enright, chapman, Corey and hunt would be an alright buy for a year

Why offer the guy who wants to stay but keep the bloke who reportedly wants to leave? Keep Patton I say
Hi, just a question - if you're referring to Jacksh, didn't he tweet that he was house-hunting in Sydney a month ago?
We've obviously looking at any tall forward on the market, hence the media speculation about Patton and Jacksh.

He did, but there wasnt any certainty it was for his house, or if he was renting or buying.

He hasnt extended his contract, so he's solidly in the 'might move for the right personal offer', and that includes going to a club that will maximise his playing time. He might be a little grumpy over just playing two games, especially if we sign Boyd and/or Franklin.

Yeah, they are all good "one last year" polyfilla players.

It was mentioned around the time of his debut that he recently moved out of Brekky Point with Lachie Whitfield and Zac Williams.

So a player who isn't ranked in the top 70 players in the comp and who has minder because of his significant social issues is worth pick one??? You been smoking the same stuff dusty does???

What is Tomlinson worth? He is a very good kpp but bulldogs don't really have much to give for someone like that.

Boyd would most likely still go number 1 with Hogan and Martin in the draft.

From Mark Stevens twitter:

GWS list manager Steve Silvagni spotted leaving Ralph Carr's office today. Doubt he was discussing Kate Ceberano's looming tour ...

GWS wasting no time!

So the 3 main guys we have been linked to are Buddy, Dustin & Fisher so basically our recruitment planning seems to be if your been bad mouthed by Caroline Wilson then your the kind of person we want at the Giants - the ultimate character test.

Anyway:

Greater Western Sydney will closely consider the option of recruiting Richmond's out-of-contract youngster Dustin Martin, who can walk to the Giants in the pre-season draft.
Sources have confirmed that the Giants are talking to the Martin camp this week.

And:

Hawthorn has removed its contract offer to Lance Franklin from the negotiating table and begun to envisage a future without its champion forward.
Fairfax Media understands the most recent offer to Franklin was removed at the end of July after the player failed to respond to a club-imposed deadline. While Hawthorn holds some hope that Franklin will stay, any potential deal could be reduced from that withdrawn some seven weeks ago.
With Greater Western Sydney claiming it has been equally frustrated by Franklin's refusal to make a decision until the end of the season, neither club appears any wiser regarding Franklin's plans. The Giants are pushing Franklin's management for an answer as it sizes up a number of targets, including Dustin Martin and Sam Fisher.

I can easily see a situation where both Hawthorn and GWS spend their cap room on various targets, and Franklin ends up somewhere unexpected.
