To be fair Goddard probably wouldn't have joined. Doesn't mean that he didn't fall in love with the club.

Yep, you only had to see the footy show in the finals when he was directly asked the question by Crawford and really struggled to dance around it. Personally I don't think he would've come, but I don't think he regrets not leaving the Saints if you know what I mean. He still loves being at the club as evidenced by the Crichton medal speech.

Also, if we have the cap space to add Goddard, Chapman and Dal Santo (even if we don't land him) in a two year period while only losing Crameri from the best 22, that's some seriously impressive cap management from Dodoro and co.

That may be one reason¹ why the mature depth was/is being cleaned out so aggressively.

From all reports he does not have the tank to be a permanent midfielder. We need to be aggressive in seeking a trade for Myers. I go back to trying to make a deal with Melbourne for pick 2. I doubt we can get anything better than pick 22 from the Dogs, so maybe we need to bring them into it. If Melbourne were willing to take Bernie Vince for that pick I think we can put a better deal together.

The AFL sponsor this rebuild for MFC and it ends up giving us pick 2, right in the face of their attempt to crush us at the same time.

How much midfield time does Myers want? Played Basicaly a full season (his first) surely he will get a bit more opportunity next year but really what would you rather-
60% time on ball in a side that should play finals
or
85% in a basket case club who allow you to play more midfield time because they have no other good players to put in there because they are a basket case.

If Chapman comes in, with NDS as a long shot - does Myers actually earn any time in the middle??

This could be young David thinking of the now and not the future. But with the 'alleged' amounts of money being bandied about and 'promises' of midfield time that might be persuading his manager.

Longer term (2 years) Chapman and NDS are out of the system and the whole midfield rotation problem comes up again.

In thinking on Myers side, if you hearing your name being mentioned in hypothetical trades in the media, it would have to get your spidey senses tingling enough to see what else is on offer out there.

To be honest, it seems likely that the reasoning behind Myers being open to a trade has nothing to do with opportunity.

We were always going to lose some players, Myers might just be one of those.

Myers is very tradeable. Not an essential piece and I doubt he'll get more on ball time next year than this year.

I don't understand where all this talk about Myers is unhappy and wanting more midfield time has came from, surely he is a realistic person and realises that this was his first full season uninterrupted and it would be very unlikely he could do more than pinch hit in the middle.

If he trains solid without injury during preseason he will be given more middle time since he will have a bigger tank.

Pre Goddard we were classed as one of the weakest midfields, we need 8-9 solid midfielders to rotate through it and he is one that we require.

You don't hear Jobe saying he is unhappy slotting 3 goals up forward for the team...
