Pick 23 - Possibilities?

I guess the only issue is whether the coaching staff see 2x small players being an issue. It really shouldn't be, especially if your rated one of the elite users of the cod in the draft

#26 Western Bulldogs - Jarman Impey (VIC – Fwd)
Height: 176cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 09/07/1995
Recruited from: Murray Bushranges
Style: Matthew Stokes (quicker)
Player comparison:
Range: 20-50
Profile: Damaging forward with some weapons at his disposal. Impey has some unique athletic gifts with some real pace and agility on him. In traffic Impey really stands out because he has more time and space than anyone else and can really step through traffic easily and then breakaway. Impey when given time and space also has some real ability to break the lines. He’s also go the typical crumbing skills and the smarts to know where the ball is going, rove at the bottom of the contest and position himself in the right spots every time. What most stands out with Impey is what he does with ball in hand. Impy is also an excellent user of the footy with his footskills particularly damaging. He has the ability to hit the scoreboard and can do so easily when within range. For a small he also has some excellent strength with his ability to mark overhead excellent for a small. As with so many forwards he can go cold as the team goes cold but when he is finding the ball he’ll do damage and make those touches meaningful ones.

Him or that Jay Kennedy-Harris could be very tempting at 23 also. JKH supposedly the best small forward in the draft who can also run through the midfield and Impey sounds like the next Eddie Betts just with a better field kick on him by all reports. Again though both are in fact smaller than Battersby:confused: haha

Height doesn't bother me for his role. If we were drafting someone to replace Brodie Smith down back then it's more of an issue.

I'd say more Motlop or Christensen than Betts.

Very true about the height. I guess recruiting one of these guys makes Petrenko redundant and means we can move Wright back into the midfield were he belongs.

Hell if he became a Christensen/Motlop id be stoked, they are both class players. Plus he has 'Jarman' in his name, so he's got to be good right?;)

On the pick 23 thing, does anyone rate Reynolds as a chance for us?

Actually missed the SA guy somehow and didnt know all that much about him, but he sounds quite the talent. Again, tallish with apparently very strong hands and an elite kick. If hes got a decent amount of pace, he could be a great player to kick long to on a wing. How many times do you see teams bomb it long down the sidelines cos theres nothing else on. If we can hit him up on the lead with his strong marking, as well get him running up and down the wing, he could potentially be a key link up player to have considering how highly rated his kick is.

He doesn't look far off!

Dwayne Wilson could also be thereabouts! Lots of good young SA talent this year. Would definitely take a pick in the low 20s for McKay

Club is into Salem - if he slid to 23 they will take him. They may still be trying to upgrade to get him
I guess they are "into" a few. We know of a few that they have been to see and interview. Just covering all bases I guess. I remember one year that they brought Robbie Tarrant over to see around the place and he felt he was sure to be drafted only to see North grab him.

Reynolds really stuck out to me in the last carnival match. Nice leg, good lead up mark, good overhead.
Hourigan was the other that I couldn't help but notice. He's not really what we are in need of though. Some nice lefties in the SA side from what i saw.

There has been some thought by a poster or two that we need to select to select a key position player with #23. I think we are ok with this and a more pressing need is a outside player that can run and carry. Missing out on Edwards and most likely Polec, I would like to see players like Impey or Kennedy-Harris drafted at this pick. Just as others have mentioned, some serious X factor is what we need and outside run. Either could play as a small forward and a succession plan for life after Betts. Height is no issue when you have a weapon or two as a player. A key position forward for our next pick. Would like a third pick as well then Laird and Hartigan as the promoted rookies.

Trade 23 and 46 for 17 from Freo? They can use 46 to get Gumby. This comes along with the promise not to draft him in the PSD (if 46 isnt enouigh to get the deal done) as we seem to be the only other club interested. Am I dreaming?

Yep, Freo has offered 58 and Essendon will have to take it or get nothing. We're saving our PSD pick for Polec. ;)

Reynolds has some ability but I wouldn't take him with our needs at 23. Lobb, Nankervis, Cameron would be good. Giles also one I'm big on.

Most of those guys would be around at 46 still. Lobb worries me as hes going to need a lot of time to develop, very skinny still. Nankervis and Cameron are both 95kgs+ and almsot ready made, with Nankervis being a year older also.

Do you think any of Dwayne Wilson, Riley Knight or George Hewett will be available at Pick 46? Wouldn't mind taking Battersby at 23 and Wilson at 46.

If this draft was 5 years ago. Cameron would be gone by pick 15. With the new views on Rucks if hes gone by 40 itll be a surprise.

Two players I think will be around our first pick at 23 are Cameron Giles and James Sicily.

Giles for a guy who is 195cm and 95kg he provides great run and carry and is extremely agile for a guy his size. Played really well at the Champs where he had the better of his opponents. With Truck potentially retiring in the next 12 months (J-Pods not long after) and doubt over L. Thompson and Siggins (to a lesser extent, I still think he will make, at least 12-18 months away though) we need quality KPD (mind you Giles played majority of his junior footy as a forward so provides that flexibility) to get the learning and improve our KPP depth and transition from life after truck much smoother.

Sicily, had our KPP stocks not taken a battering in recent years, this is the lad I would pick at 23 (this is providing none of your Acres or Lennon are available). This kid can play, he's been the standout for the Jets this year and made a played really well from the opportunity he had in the Champs. He wasn't one of the stars of the Metro but in terms of potential I genuinely feel he is one who will exceed some of the more fancied prospects in this years draft. At 186cm and 77kg, he still has some filling out to do, but with his frame I have no doubt he will. Not only does he play for the jets but he has got real speed, not just of the mark but he can maintain it over a distance (top 5 in the 20 sprint in the combine). But what I like most about him is his footy IQ, he reads the play really well, which aids his decision making and always seems to have more time then others. Foots skills aren't elite, but definitely above average. For a guy of this size he is really good overhead and knows where the goals are. At this stage his main knock would be he plays predominantly as a outside runner. In the right environment (this is where we come is through our strong development program, especially with the reserves side) that he can improve that side of his game. I don't ever expect him to become a Crouch/Sloane clearance machine, but he does need to learn to win his own ball. I can see him fit in perfectly on the Wing, HBF or HFF and really cause headaches for teams with his marking and footy smarts.

Don't want to turn this into a rant, but at 23 I'd go with the Giles, but if we had 24 I would take Sicily and would've read his name as quickly and as Rendell did when we called out Smiths a few years back.
