I heard the pronunciation of his name on the radio today and was a bit dissapointed.
It's "Ap-ness" not "Ape-ness" like I have been saying in my head all this time.
You can bet on it that would be disregarded if he was drafted by us. The sales of purple monkey suits would be through the roof in Perth next year.

Cameron Giles is really looking like a rooky pick to me as he seams to have slipped through to the keeper as far as recruiters are concerned .
I can see Fremantle drafting him late or hoping he's avalable in the Rooky Draft and that would be a great outcome for us TBH .

I can see us taking Apeness at 17 and it make a lot of sence when you concider Gumbletons history of injuries .
Marsh looks likely to be a rooky pick as he has faded from a top 20 pick to uncertainty .
I would love to see Ray Sorrells grandson playing in purple and if we can get him at pick 57 he would be a steal.

Sorry if this has been explained before, but in terms of number of draft picks Freo will be taking, how many more senior players can we actually take?

We've lost 6 senior players (Michie, Mellington, Crichton, Pitt, Faulks & Forster) & lost 2 rookies (Schloithe & Howson). On the other hand, we have recruited 2 senior players (Sylvia & Gumby) & upgraded 2 rookies (Moller & Taberner).

So in summary, we've lost 6 senior players, have brought in 2 seniors & upgraded 2 rookies (Net loss of 2 players from the senior list) & we've lost 4 from the rookie list.

We've currently got 37 players officially on our senior player list & 1 on the rookie list.

So are we able to take 3 or only 2 seniors in the draft?

3.

Didn't think that we had ungraded Moller. He is listed in the seniors list because we was upgraded during the season but I expect him to stay on the rookie list as a NSW scholarship rookie as special rules apply.

Which leaves us with three slots on the seniors and three on the Rookie. There is some strange rules about NSW listed players which mean they are outside the cap os something. I can't remember how it works. But conceivably we could end up with both Moller and our Irishman pushing our numbers out a bit.

Got to say I'm pretty jealous that there is a good chance you guys will get a shot at either McCathney or Acres at 17. Both would be massive bargains.

Couldn't agree more with this... except I'm not jealous, just excited.

I have a really strong feeling that Geelong will take Acres, but hope it isn't so. We seem to like similar midfielder body types I think.

Yep, Acres is a real possibility now with Geelong reportedly keen on Zak Jones although Sydney have shown some interest. Unless they reach for Apeness Freo will probably go McCarthy or Acres or Apeness hopefully in that order.

I see McCarthy/Acres as a win/win choice, personally.

Who do we as supporters hope to get?

Rumours we are looking at mature agers Chris Cain (mid) and Ben Brown (KPP) with our third rounder/rookie picks. Both could add a bit to our side and would be ready made back ups next year. Our first pick will be either Acres or Apeness I think although McCarthy may slide. Don't want Thorp at 37 but Johnno Marsh or Jansen would be decent at that pick.

Put it this way if McCarthey and acres are gone then someone has slid. I think if both of them are gone we will go with jones with our first pick and then go for someone like Harvey, hourigan or marsh with our second pick. We could then use pick 58 for nick Robertson who by reports could be available for us as he has hardly played all year.

It's a bit of a dick move for the AFL to schedule the draft for the first day of the Ashes summer.

Can't they just coexist for once? It's not like they're even in direct competition with cricket.

What time (WA time) is this happening? My bloody son had his high school graduation on Thursday... I can just see him having his name called out to go up and get his WACE certificate and he's on his phone checking who Freo have picked up... Meanwhile, I can't even give him the evils to get a move on cos I, too, am on my phone checking out the draft... uurrgghh....
