I'm sure something like this would do wonders for our membership campaign.

Glad to see that the Conlon Express has a new passenger. Stopping at Station 42.

Pretty sure there is only 1 month difference between him and Aish still mystified were taking him at #4 but seems alot of people are stoked with him so hopefully we get the next Kouta x Pendles. Anyways ill stop whinging now, if he doesn't work out alot of people are going to be calling for Dalyrmples head. Huge mistake passing on Aish/Billings though imo.

If we do go down this track [ Bono], lets hope to hell it works out, and he turns out to be a Kouta/Pendles, because if he ends up another Everitt
[ and perhaps mathematically the odds lean that way], then we may well have seriously blown the last chance for a top 5 pick we may get for a decade.

Fine if the club is totally convinced on him [ clearly I am not], I will support their decision, I just hope to heaven they are not simply being seduced by his height.

A big call by the club - fingers crossed

In fairness to Bont, Everitt was seen as a second rounder at best when we picked him up. I remember that draft day. Was hoping for Jack Riewoldt and we let him slip. Bont at least is rated very highly by some draft watchers (at worst he's still seen as a late first rounder, but as highly as the best player in the draft) so I trust our recruiting dept to make the right call on him.

I am not at all worried about Brennan or Everitt type returns with Bontempelli. I expect he will be a comfortable starting 18 player, and probably more. The question is what he adds to the team that we don't already have (other than 5 cm).

The thing I fear, and am slowly beginning to expect, is our midfield in 5 years being a bunch of strong, ferocious, one-paced, mediocre kicks of varying heights.

I will cheer them on, and hope for the best of course. But I worry that they'll be good enough to bully rubbish teams around and cruise into the PF. But not good enough to win a Premiership. Again.

I reckon there are at least 10 players playing for Hawthorn who are more precise kicks than any of our youngsters, Bontempelli included. And I don't see our recruiters/coaches caring about that enough to even try to change it. And I can't understand why.

Hope I'm wrong, but that prospect is SO depressing.

EDIT: By the way we won't be able to resolve the skill issue next draft either, cause we'll have to go for talls with our 1st rounder at least. It'll have to be in the 2015 draft that we draft an elite kick with our 1st rounder. So our first drafted elite kicks of this batch will be ready sometime after 2016. A tad late, don't you think?

Conlon won't go past any of Brisbanes second rounders. No chance of landing at us
I can't see a side who has just lost five players to homesickness taking the massive risk that is Conlon, four second rounders or not.

Bollards on the line time for dalrymple. If the big bont busts and aish is an ace, its career over for simon I'm afraid.
We should get Matt Rendell if we do sack Dalrymple.

I've watched a bit of Mitch Harvey's highlights and interviews today and I'll be very happy with him at 42. Looks like a very natural footballer, good skills and already a solid build. Gives us another fwd/ruck option for the future and his big concern being fitness might not be such a worry due to the whole glandular fever thing a day after the draft. Him or Conlon at 42 would be great, anyone else a fan?

Honest question, which of our young possible mids are poor/mediocre kicks?
The only players I have genuine concerns about are Stevens, Wallis and Smith (although I think his smarts counteract this). The rest look fine to excellent.

Doesn't necessarily mean they would only draft Queenslanders or something like that though. They just didn't get the right types of people first time around. Yeo is their only real loss, Karnezis never cemented a place and I'm wondering how he will get into the Pies team. Polec got too many injuries which would have been a factor in wanting to go home to SA, while Longer struggled for game time with Leuenberger returning to top condition and form (sub rule didn't help). Longer for me highlights the dangers of using early picks on ruckmen too. As said by many people, 99% of people would go anywhere to play AFL, just cos it fell apart for them this year it doesn't mean they should change their thinking. But back on topic even if they don't, based on talent I can't see him lasting long enough to us at 42. But if he does I'm sure we'd pull the trigger and it would be brilliant for us

Just asking, do you know Conlon's situation? Not having a go but I wasn't referring to homesickness; Conlon hasn't played football in over 18 months due to injuries. We have nothing to go on but his underage form. Those second rounders need to offset the losses they had in both their depth and young player stocks; I'd be staggered if the Lions took someone with so much risk attached so early. They're also stacked with young KPFs who just haven't been given games - and they're drafting one in Freeman. I would be shocked if they take him with a second rounder.

I actually question whether Bontempelli is a bigger risk then Aish. If Aish doesn't improve his inside game and work ethic he may not even make it. Bontempelli has a ripper attitude and work ethic by all reports. He's coming from further back but I believe he should make it with his level of attitude and work ethic combined with his talent. Aish should make it too, but I'm not absolutely convinced. He has more runs on the board, but that doesn't mean much as he does have some things that he really needs to work on.

And I really don't see this as "we're the smartest in the room mentality" like 2009. Howard should've been picked in the rookie draft IMO, he certainly didn't belong in the first round. Bontempelli I think is well deserving of going top 10, I don't think he should be going top 5 but I won't be burning down Whitten Oval when/if he comes here. He's certainly not my first preference, but that's still ok.

Who we are apparently interested in with our later picks

WESTERN BULLDOGS
Picks 4, 42
It will be a long wait between picks for the Bulldogs and they will be hoping one of their top-30 ranked players gets through to 42. Darcy Lang is a chance to get there, and the Bulldogs have liked the zippy but hard midfielder across the season. His broken leg and dislocated ankle during the championships is on the mend and he had enjoyed a good year before that. The Dogs also have some may look to Toby Nankervis, a big and strong ruckman who can drift forward to kick goals.

Yeah I read up about him the other day, pretty interesting story. He might not have played for a while but it's also said he would probably go top 10 otherwise. I just used Brisbane as an example as they have so many picks in the second round, which is where I think he will go

Darcy Lang strikes me as an odd pick to suggest we would get as he is a quick inside midfielder

I don't think so and I don't think he should be purely labeled as an inside mid either. He gets a lot of handball receives and likes to run and carry the ball so he can very much play on the outside. He's not great at the clearances so I can't ever see him being that pure inside mid for us anyway (not that we need him to). I quite like off a half back flank too and he is a neat kick. Think he's a good fit for our side.

Wouldn't mind Lang and that rumour's been floating around for a while. His injury makes me sick just thinking about it though. He basically dislocated his ankle...then broke it while dislocated. Pretty awful.

As for Nankervis...someone get me that wrestler "NO" gif.
