This hits the nail on the head. We do not want to wind up like Carlton i.e. "Ooo lets solely draft midfielders, surely a basketcase forwardline doesn't matter?"
There are no decent forwards available to us at 26. Next year is a KPP draft, we can last the year surely?

If a ruckmen is that good, and worth a second round pick, you pick them no matter who was on your list already.

Very true if he's the next dean cox or Sandilands I don't think too many people would be too disappointed in taking a ruck at pick 26.

If he developed into a very good ruck would this not present an opportunity to trade either paddy or bell for a good mid next year?

I do hope dodoro takes a middy unless he honestly believes the ruck or KPP that's available at pick 26 come draft night is best available.

No decent forwards? Marsh suits us perfectly for one.

I'm not necessarily saying a KPP, I'm saying that a roaming 3rd tall such as Marsh is what we need. And if Conlon is available with pick 55 or or the rookie draft then I want him too. It just seems silly that we would avoid getting the players we need to plug holes just because this is a midfielders draft.
Its not plausible to say we'll be contenders within the next 2-3 years if we don't fill the holes NOW.

Does he?

A mid 'tweener forward is really going to push us from that 8th spot to top 4?

I would have thought a hulking forward would have with that 'tweener forward rounding out the forward line.

I do not get the love for Marsh, I really don't!

It can work both ways though, you could easily suggest that we shouldn't reach for longer shots just because they fill a need rather than taking a player you rate much higher but in a different position.

Marsh fills the hole left by Crameri (3rd tall who once his tank builds up can rotate through the midfield). I reckon Conlon fills the other KPF void nicely as well.
And for your information if not for the ASADA rubbish we probably would of stayed in the top 4, and that was without a genuine stay at home KPF getting a regular game (Daniher and Gumbleton only got the occasional game).

To be fair, I don't think there would be a single player that would be within our reach, that could.

Sounds like some people are hoping these kids (cause, remember, thats all most of them will be) are going to come in and play like seasoned veterans from game 1.

Three problems with that

1) Marsh SHOULD NOT be playing AFL games in 2014

2) Crameri played more as a KPP when in fact he was undersized.

3) Marsh sounds like a 3rd tall when we need KPF's

I recognise all of this. But:
1) He may get some senior games, but would spend most of his time in the VFL in 2014.
2) Yes I know, and that's because the club hadn't drafted ANY genuine KPF's (until Daniher) since we drafted Gumbleton. That's what 6 or 7 years without getting a young key forward (I don't count Hurley because lets be honest he's a KPD not a KPF).
3) Notice in my previous post I said Marsh will play as a 3rd tall.

On that basis, Thorpe should be considered.

As I have said countless times, Thorp played more as a free wheeling midfielder/forward than true KPF. Dont think he would play KP at AFL level (even with Hawthorns best interests he couldn't).

If Marsh got senior games he would want to be averaging 4 goals a game or we have a seriousl run of injuries.
We have really mismanaged our list in the last 3 - 4 years (both with rucks and KPP's, putting all our eggs in small baskets).
Marsh would play as a 3rd tall, yes! we need a true KPP though.

How many 3rd talls will that be for us then?? We seem to have so many....

guys who are strong overhead that can also play small would include;
- Chapman
- Zaharakis
- Winderlich

KPF's that we have are;
- Daniher
- Ryder *
- Bellchambers*

* not there no.1 role in the side

The late mail has Cripps going to Carlton at 13, so he's one presumably gone from my rag-tag bunch of pick 26 misfits.
And there are persisting murmurs of Merrett going to Sydney at 15 (EQ has him there, her draft can be found here, but unfortunately it's only a first round prediction).

Morale of the story, Collingwood will pick a slider, Derek Hine will be proclaimed recruiting jesus for picking the obvious kid

I don't understand how and why Carlton would not take McCarthy but who cares, the longer they have no tall forward the better. I hope Waite goes down with a career ending injury in round 1 and they are stuffed. Sure, McCarthy is still a raw talent and probably won't be ready to dominate yet, but he would be better than Casboult...

I really want Crouch. I hope Adelaide don't take him, but I think they will with the Brad Crouch ties and all.

Also EQ didn't have Hartung in that 20 either. If he slide to us I'd be stoked.

As far as analysis goes, sure, but there are always early surprises or sliders.

Yes - But as it stands 24hrs out Number 3 is still undecided. Usually the top 5 or 6 is signed, sealed and delivered 2 or 3 days out.
