I'm more worried that Rich, Polec and Karnezis are out of contract. I'm not worried that Merrett and Patful are out of contract because they ain't going anywhere
I'm not I just saw three very good players are out of contract and expressed I'm worried they could leave. I haven't thought about it since that comment. Why live in a constant state of concern?

Mayes isn't going anywhere by the way, and neither is Aish I suspect![]()
While I can understand your hostility to an opposition supporter posting in your contracts thread, I come for different reasons. I was compiling a list of all the free agents for 2014 here and I'd like to finish off the Brisbane list.

The players that have been at our club for 8+ years come the end of 2014 are Brown, Merrett, McGrath, Patfull, Adcock and Leuenberger.
Brown, McGrath - 2013
Adcock, Leuenberger, Patfull - 2015
Merrett - 2016
So the only free agents we'll have are Brown and McGrath![]()

Best I could find. I assumed our draftees from last year and this year are on the standard 2 year contracts.
Good stuff mate. From that information it seems to be Polkinghorne and Leuenberger are the ones from the 2015 free agents that you'd want to make a priority in re-signing.
They can take Polkinghorne, if get to keep Leuenberger![]()
If only it were that simple. You think Brisbane might be in for a free agent in 2014? I imagine they would have some decent money in the cap after the players that departed this year. There are some decent names there with the likes of Boak, Gibbs, Murphy, B.Reid and Frawley up for grabs. What type of player would Brisbane be after anyway?

there has been a suggestion we'll have a crack at free agents in the next couple of years. Some hope that we'd have been able to front end some contracts into the 2013 salary cap by bringning forward payments to players to further free up money for later years but I'm not sure if that ended up happening due to finances.
I think a club like us would take any top line talent willing to come - I doubt any club in the league would say no to any of the 5 names you've given there. People will obviously have opionions of the value of some (particularly Gibbs) but even if he hasn't lived up to the hype noone could deny he is a first 22 player at every club in the league.
obviously a key forward would be most handy for us but someone like Frawley or Reid would be timely to replace Merritt/Patful.

don't think we should be thinking about getting in a bidding war over free agents. We have put a lot of time and money into developing our kids, so would prefer to see our $$$ go towards ensuring we keep all of them.
I think it can send a wrong message to kids who have been battling it out in the 2s, getting the odd game in the 1s while they train their guts out and then we parachute in some "b grader" or "has been" who gets a game in front of them. part of me thinks this is why we lost longer (bringing in martin and playing him consistently).
