Having said that, its going to be tough to hold down a regular gig in the midfield at Collingwood this season with:

Pendles, Swan, Ball,
Beams, Adams, Thomas
Blair, Kennedy, Martin
Freeman

all in the mix and others like Sidebottom, Elliot, Williams, Caff, Fasolo, looking to push up in there as well.

To be fair I'd have Thomas ahead of any of those last four, and Adams' equal until he proves himself in our own side. He shouldn't have any issues :p. Although I'd consider Sidebottom and Macaffer as permanent fixtures if looking at last years side. Hopefully Sidebottom spends more time as a HHF this year than mid but we'll see.

JT has a heart as big as the Southern stand and will go all day with some luck with injuries. There's no gaurantee he'll make it but just remember what was said about a famous son. . .

Too slow, can't kick over a jam tin. . .etc,. etc,. etc.

And they were right, but they forgot to check the chest cavity. . .

Tiny, tiny lungs pushed aside by a heart the size of Phar Laps, shunting Black and White blood.

Tony Shaw wore his heart on his sleeve and bled black and white, pretty ordinary footballer but a giant among clubmen.

NEVER right off a player that puts their heart into their footy.

Add Dwyer to that mix also

Modern midfields have a rotation of ten or more (including wing and half forward, and even the sweeping half back, two on the bench and a sub).

With automatic selections being Pendlebury Swan Ball Sidebottom Lumumba (if he plays wing) and Beams, that leaves not many spots left for Adams Thomas Blair Seedsman Kennedy Martin Freeman Sharenburg Elliott Maccaffer Dwyer Williams Clarke Sinclair Broomhead and Fasolo to fight over. Very exciting proposition if they all play near their capacity.

Throw a blanket over a lot of these players. They are hard to separate. Plenty of depth, and hopefully plenty of firepower.

At the moment, with a full squad with no injuries, I have Thomas as the 23rd player just missing out. I have Seedsman in just ahead of him in a half back role.

I think that is testament to our depth considering he had a really good season in 2013.

Considering this is his first really good pre-season, I expect big things from him, but there is no doubt he is still in a battle to hold his position.

Hopefully all the players are battling for their positions. We don't nead any "cheats" this season.

Young can play footy, just needs a clear run at it.

Jury clearly out on the other two, even if they play well they are well down the pecking order....but Hine rates them so I'm not going to write either of them off. Armstrong in particular seems to have some toe and some run and carry.

Problem with Young is that he has been needing a clear run since 2009. I still think that Armstrong would be better off starting a Prince cover band.

The good thing is that with Ball and Swan probably having about 2 more years left at their best we have plenty of competition to adequately fill their slots.

I'm not particularly interested in how Hawthorn managed him. They have a pretty terrible track record with injured players. Happy to have an open mind.

As I have an open mind on Armstrong. I dont pretend to know much about him but I'll take Hines assessment over your racist comment.

Whoa.....racist? His current facial hair resembles Prince in the 80s, and as such would be an ideal look for a cover band. I'm not saying he should limit himself to this....perhaps he could throw in a few Bruce Springstein tracks as well....or am I being anti semitic?

Thank god the season is just around the corner,42c up here in Ippy today so I can understand someone getting the needle today in fact I am going to get the needle myself if I have to go outside again today.
