Thought it would be interesting to see how many New South Welshmen play for the Giants and compare it to other states. From what I can tell, this is correct -

VIC 29/45 (64%)
NSW 6/45 (13.33%)
SA 4/45 (8.88%)
WA 3/45 (6.66%)
ACT 1/45 (2.22%)
NT 1/45 (2.22%)
QLD 1/45 (2.22%)

You can compare this to the Swans who have 11 players from NSW out of 42 contracted players. This means 26% of their list hail NSW. Will the Giants push for more local talent over the next few years or will they just stick to the top talent from other states?

At the moment the Giants have basically had the pick of the talent - 5 top 16 picks last year, 11 the year before, and the 12 prelistees. As they start becoming on equal footing to the rest of the comp over the next few years, NSW will start to become a better utilized recruiting zone through the academy system. It'll be a while before the percentages really change, and they may dip a bit at first if the likes of Bruce, etc, leave over competition for spots, but it'll pick up over time (Zac Williams says hi!).

All updated but gee between now and 2015 a lot of work to be done on re-signings

We've been pretty aggressive re-signing our own players, so hopefully that will continue.

Of our ooc group for this year I'm most worried about o'rourke leaving. Jaksch is well covered and announced he is working to negotiate an extension while the trade period was happening. Plowman was getting games and havnt heard a peep about homesickness from him. Can't see other clubs aggressively chasing whiley, downie, Addison, gilham, Schulz or Stewart.

O'Rourke for mine has always been a flight risk but my main concern is if we lose him and his not getting game time which is very likely given the talent around him, we are unlikely to get fair trade value for a guy who was pick 2 in the 2012 draft.

With Adams and Tyson gone, o'rourke would have surely gone up the pecking order and get an early call up. If he performs well then he will retain his position and hopefully sign an extension. Stewart on the other hand I can't see him breaking into our lineup but I also can't see him bending us over a barrell either

Not sure about that as have heard that Kelly has already gone pass him, but hopefully O'Rouke starts to really settle in Syd and starts playing some decent footy.

As far as I know isn't Kelly a super outside player? Adams and Tyson were inside mids and so is o'rourke. If anything I thought Kelly was pressuring cogs, WHE and Whitfield

Rookie List (1/9)

45 Sam Schulz - 2014

Not many guys out of contract then it seems. Obviously Jacksch interests Essendon as a KPP and Plowman is a talent. The rest I'm not to non plussed about.
(id be interested in O'Rourke but what we have and can give for a non - victorian isn't enough for him)
