Draft Review 2007 - Redo the 2007 Draft

Being pretty generous to Kreuzer there imo. I would take every player in tier 4 over him except Grimes because of his injury history. I'd also move Selwood into tier 3 he doesn't have quite the hurt factor of the other midfielders in tier 2.

Mumford was in the 2007 draft as well but I'm not sure where to rate him.

Maybe - he has had some really bad injuries - if he gets a run at I think he will prove he is best ruck from this draft in by the end of 2014.

Selwood won a B&F in a good WCE side. I think he is in Tier 2.5. Better than Tier 3 and not at Tier 2.

Agree on Selwood. With the sub rule and Kreuzer's lack of forward nous I find it hard to rank him above those in tier 4 who already have a clearly defined role in a team whereas no one seems to exactly how he'll be used in conjunction with Warnock and Casboult.

I find it hilarious everytime the ball goes long into their forward line when Kreuzer is resting deep. The crowd go KROOOOZE, and everytime he drops the mark, such a funny disappointment everytime. It's like the crowd think that he is a certainty to mark it but in reality he would mark 5% of them.

I have spoken to a Carlton official about Kreuzer and to date has not been the player they had hoped - so many times you will look at his stats he has had a 12-14 dispoal game. He does not know how to get a cheap kick and put pressure on the opposition ruck. Maybe bump Bellchambers up. I would still take Kreuzer over McEvoy who I think is limited as a ruck man.

I agree the top 3 are clear standouts. Tier 1 - Cotchin, Danger, Taylor

Thompson was one of the best backmen in the league in 2013. He is at Cyril's level. With a few others.

Tier 2: Walker, Rioli, Thompson, Stevens, Ward, Hanley, Selwood. Walker a big chance to push into Tier 1 if he can fully recover from his knee op.

Tier 3 - Rance, Kruezer, Henderson, Ebert, Mayne

Tier 4 - Masten Hooker, Grimes, McEvoy, Bellchambers

I think Bellchambers is a better player than Kruezer at this stage. I think Thompson is a good player but wouldn't say he is any better than Rance or Henderson, in fact I would take the other two before him.

Agree that Walker is a tier 1 player in waiting.

Wouldn't agree that Hooker is the same level as Grimes/McEvoy/Bellchambers.

I'd take Masten over all those in tier 3 and 4 and Ward from tier 2.

Would drop Rance down as well.

Rance is better than Thompson? Thompson won our B&F and was the AA Full back. He was huge in 2013 and clearly better than Rance. Who finished 6th in your B&F and missed the AA squad.

Hibberd and Carlisle were better. Best defender is a stretch.

I think he was better than Carlisle. It's just that everyone got overly excited by the young bloke Carlisle and took a while to realise the perennial spud Hooker was actually going well.

Best key defender is more apt. He was at least as good as Carlisle who struggled for consistency. I thought his year was as good as any second tall bar Taylor and Gibson.

Carlisle was in most AA squads at half year. He tapered off towards the end like the entire team did. His best is up with the best in the AFL. Will be very interesting to see how strong Thompson is to have Carlisle stay forward - the temptation to swing him back once a forward line is on top will be huge.

If I followed essendon I would be extremely nervous when Hooker has ball in hand - he improved on and is better now playing within his limitation - but the fear would still be there.

Us Roo supporters saw how important that role is with Hanson in career best form playing a similar role.

Your B&F speaks volumes.

A bit of an exaggeration there, Leroy Jetta and Liam Anthony are perennial spuds. Hooker was an ungainly role player who stepped up.

I used to be nervous but over the past couple of seasons he's become a dependable kick who rarely turns the ball over at all. He even offered pretty good rebound with his disposal last season.

If a forward line ever gets on top :p

Agree although once Bellchambers is fit it'll be less detrimental to the forward line for Carlisle to swing back. I'm more interested/worried to see what happens if/when Hurley gets injured whether or not they swing Carlisle back and bring in a Steinberg/Thurlow/Hardingham or they bring in Pears and one of Hooker/Fletcher plays on the oppositions best forward. That's why Gumbleton could turn out to be a big loss as he could genuinely come in and pinch hit in any key position including ruck and defence.

Did I see a stat that had him high on a list as the 1st possession in a score?

He reminds me of Hansen whereas Carlisle is more like Thompson. The latter 2 got the bigger jobs and Hanson and Hooker got the easier assignments but were to support the other key backs.

Hanson actually out polled Thompson in our B&F after round 8. But to me there is no question which are the 2 best defenders in this group.
